just that really. I’m in desperate need of money and never seem to win more than a couple of hundred!

I won £1k last year and I was so excited - then I thought about it and realised that's probably my luck done forever now 😭

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/08/2024 15:20

Ex SIL won £50,000 about ten years ago, which was a great return considering she only had about £3,000 of bonds. I only won £10-£20 a handful of times over a few years so just took everything out and invested elsewhere. I guess it’s like any lottery, ultimately entirely random.

PerkyMintDeer · 22/08/2024 15:21

The most I've ever won is £1250 on 9k in my second month of opening an account. I was delighted!

Average returns have worked our between 8-12% for me over the years so long term wins in the 1000s rather than 100s and that's at not even half full holdings.

I have less in PBs than I used to in the past as I prioritise ISAs and high interest account but there's always a chance of a big win and I get £25-£100 here and there. It all adds up. Big winners tend to be those with full holdings but people with only £5 have won the million before now.

@ComtesseDeSpair 50k!! That would be amazing

My mum won £50k about 30 years ago.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/08/2024 15:23

No and I've never won a penny despite have a reasonable sum in for a few years. I'm currently withdrawing it all and investing elsewhere.

givemushypeasachance · 22/08/2024 15:24

Think of it like having a savings account that pays out interest, with a very very tiny chance of winning more than that.

There is a premium bonds thread. Each month we all discuss our winnings. One poster won £50k.

ionatrolley · 22/08/2024 15:31

My very wealthy relative won £266,336.00 recently, money goes to money !

Hisaa · 22/08/2024 15:32

@ionatrolley from premium bonds?! I thought they only paid out in 10k 50k etc

westisbest1982 · 22/08/2024 15:32

Not yet. Hardly surprising since the vast majority of big winners have holdings of £30K and everyone I know don’t have many savings or none at all.

Whammyammy · 22/08/2024 15:34

I have £50,000 worth and win most months. Usually multiples of £25-£100..biggest prize was £1,000

autism07 · 22/08/2024 15:35

I have had premium bonds for 30 year. Won a few £25 but that's it. Thinking of taking them out tbh

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/08/2024 16:20

I don’t have very many, but have never won a penny.

You talking about a lottery win?

Kitkat1523 · 22/08/2024 17:00

I have won £100 once, £75 twice …..and £25 about 15 times

Bohomovies · 22/08/2024 17:01

I got £1,250 ish on about 10k savings. That was a lucky month. Usually get £50 every other month.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/08/2024 17:02

No, but I know someone who won £250k on the postcode lottery

Cattyisbatty · 22/08/2024 17:03

A relative won about £10k recently. DC won £500 last year.

Bingbangboo · 22/08/2024 17:35

My nephew won £10k recently. My children tend to win £25 two or three times a year, but DD has had a run of £100 for the last 3 months.

A couple of £100 is a decent amount!

Wideskye · 22/08/2024 17:37

Years ago a chap I knew won the top prize. He was 17.

FawnFrenchieMum · 22/08/2024 17:40

PIL won £10k a couple of years, and win £50-£500 most months. I would guess they have a full holdings.

We used to have about £20k in and won small amounts most months. We dropped to £5k and didn’t win for a year, we’re back up to almost £10k now and won £50 last month, first win in ages.

Allywill · 22/08/2024 17:42

One of my daughters won 1,000 when she was about 7 or 8 - my dad bought them 100 bonds every birthday so she more than doubled her money - since then she’s not won much - a couple of £25 and one £50 I think.

alexasaysnoway · 22/08/2024 17:42

Friend won £25,000
