Where are the cheap, last minute holidays?

SquishyTT · 15/08/2024 21:10

DH and I have booked next week off work. In my mind we were going to find a very last minute amazing beach hol deal 😂Flights are insane, even when I can find a great hotel deal!!

So I think we’ll be spending the next week at home… unless anyone has an amazing suggestion of a hotel that’s beautiful and fun for 2 primary age DC and not £8k a week 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tips, advice welcome 🙏

I hear that monte negro is quite reasonable and lovely but I’ve not looked at prices.

Holiday pirates usually have good deals

Our cheap sun holidays have been with places like Yelloh Village in the pst but they are now as much as going to a hotel and book up quickly.

In your shoes I’d go to a travel agent and ask them for help or get on holiday pirates and see what about

ssd · 15/08/2024 21:13

They are all in Turkey where its roasting right now

PassingStranger · 15/08/2024 21:36

The only place I've seen deals for is Turkey.
No such thing as a cheap holiday anymore since Covid.

princesspadam · 15/08/2024 21:45

They're back in 1992 when a last minute deal was still a thing!
Even then you'd be unlikely to find a deal in school hols

Saying that we've just booked for September and the prices were nuts

Bjorkdidit · 15/08/2024 21:47

Billund Denmark? Lalandia Center Parcs style pool and accommodation and the original Legoland. Will definitely be fun for DC even if it's not a beautiful hotel or a beach holiday. Fly from Stansted on Ryanair.

Otherwise look at the deals section of Jet2holidays,Tui or Easyjet holidays with as wide as possible search criteria.

Or go ask a travel agent.

We book with companies like sunshine . We went to Lanzarote in may half term for 2k 4star AI.

You can get self catering next week from 450 pp an AI from 650pp in Turkey on there. Spain from 770 pp.

My cleaner is currently in a hotel in Sozopol that is dirt cheap booking direct. (I had a nose as she tagged herself on Facebook) the issue is the flights are extortion to get to the nearest airport! I feel like cheap hols are no more. Everything seems so expensive! Hope you find something!

wheretheheckissummer · 15/08/2024 21:54

What is your budget and where do you want to go? There are some on easyJet hols to turkey for under 2k

theeyeofdoe · 15/08/2024 21:58

Start with the flight and then think about the hotel. Fiddle with dates/times until you find a deal.

LateMumma · 15/08/2024 22:35

I was looking at On the Beach last night and they seem to have a few

watermelonsugarr · 15/08/2024 22:42

Following! We can't find anything either!

longdistanceclaraclara · 15/08/2024 22:50

They don't exist anymore.

Pippa12 · 15/08/2024 22:56

How much are you wanting to spend? Obviously prices are high due to school hols and the persistent pissing down British weather 🤣

I follow the travel mum on Instagram who often posts great deals.

I’ve found easyJet holidays cheapest (but unfortunately not ‘cheap!’) for us two adults two children. Flight+hotel seemed to work out so much more expensive once bags/transfers were added on.

startstopengine · 15/08/2024 23:13

We are off to boil in Morocco! It's cheap as it's bloody roasting!!

SpringKitten · 15/08/2024 23:15

If you’re ready to fly out on Sunday check out Teletext holidays website. Loads on there. Where are your local airports?

Tarkan · 15/08/2024 23:17

Most Scottish schools are back now if it's any cheaper to get up here and fly out that way. I think the last few schools that I know of go back next week.

NAndJIsLockingDown · 16/08/2024 00:16

No such thing as a cheap holiday any more, and rightly bloody so!

Why rightly bloody so?

NAndJIsLockingDown · 16/08/2024 00:44

iloveshetlandponies · 16/08/2024 00:40

Why rightly bloody so?

Because the masses taking cheap and frequent flights was contributing to climate change.

Bjorkdidit · 16/08/2024 06:00

People flying on holidays and mini breaks a few times a year are a drop in the ocean compared with business travel, heavy industry, industrial farming and data centres running 'the internet'.

RobinEllacotStrike · 16/08/2024 06:53

I booked 2 days ago to fly on 24th - so just under 2 weeks. Is that last minute?

I found plenty of hotels, but most of the flights were booked. The flights we ended up booking the 3 of us are sitting separately.

I'm travelling with teens so not too adventurous- they have banned "adventurous" holidays 😂😂

I didn't really get "last minute" prices.

Firenzeflower · 16/08/2024 06:57

I walked past Hays Travel Agents yesterday and they had some good deals in the window.

MrsImtheProbleM · 16/08/2024 07:50

We booked a last minute holiday (5 days before) for me, DH and our 2 kids. We got back 2 days ago from an amazing week in fethiye Turkey- first time we have been to Turkey (we choose a different country each year) and it was seriously amazing and stunning, no idea why people stick their nose up at it I would certainly go back. Beach front hotel, with breakfast and dinner, flights, transfers and airport parking for £2000 for 7 nights for all of us. We did loads of amazing excursions for a decent price. It wasn’t unbearably hot at all and not any hotter than any other summer destination we have been in august. I booked through love holidays, I’ve used them loads of times for last minute holidays and have never had any issues, so easy to deal with. You pay the price you see not like other cheap holiday sites I’ve tried to use in the past.

We nearly booked Cyprus, have a look on Airbnb they have some great cheap but lovely accommodation on there. We went Cyprus a few years ago in august and stayed in an apartment for 10 days for only £400 for all of us the whole time. For some reason I have found their Airbnb accommodation is cheaper than most other places. So you can pay a bit more for flight’s and still keep the price down. I decided against Cyprus because we have been that’s the only reason.

We go away every august but have never paid more than £2000 for us all. Used to be a lot less £1200 our Cyprus trip came to for flights and accommodation when we went, but that was several years ago now. Every thing has gone up. Good luck hope you find some where.

I second this idea. Love holidays website has loads from Scotland at a good price.

YouveGotAFastCar · 16/08/2024 07:56

They don’t really exist anymore, haven’t for a few years.

Keep an eye on temperatures next week. We’re expecting low to mid 30s here. Spain is expecting to get pretty close to 40.
