Where are the cheap, last minute holidays?

DH and I have booked next week off work. In my mind we were going to find a very last minute amazing beach hol deal 😂Flights are insane, even when I can find a great hotel deal!!

So I think we’ll be spending the next week at home… unless anyone has an amazing suggestion of a hotel that’s beautiful and fun for 2 primary age DC and not £8k a week 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tips, advice welcome 🙏

I walked past Hays Travel Agents yesterday and they had some good deals in the window.

I was going to suggest a good old fashioned travel agent.

They exist but outside of school holidays.

They are to Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco due to the temperatures at this time of year.

we are in Greece. It is hot. For four of us it has cost a small fortune and Definitely not worth it.

DD and her BF are off to a SC apartment in Turkey on 25th August for a week for £600 between them with Tui.
It looks basic but reviews are good and its near the beach and has a pool.

Have a look at EasyJet holidays as some of them are incredibly cheap. I sorted from the lowest price first for 7 nights and you can have Toulon from £217 pp, Prague from £226, Bordeaux £245. All August and September dates

I had a look out of interest now the school holidays are over (children in nursery so could go any time), but it doesn't seem much cheaper. Even outside peak times nothing seems particularly cheap!
Sometimes booking in advance, like booking next summer now, is a lot cheaper, but doesn't help for last minute cheap deals for this summer!

Because the masses taking cheap and frequent flights was contributing to climate change.

Not everyone has to fly or travel far. We book in the UK as we have a disabled son. And it isn't masses of people flying. Lots of people haven't been abroad in years and years due to the cost. That's a big factor in our decision as well as the difficulties with our son, but it would be nice if it was actually an option and affordable for us at some point. It's wealthy people taking the frequent flights. I know some people flying 3 trips a year +. Have a word with them instead of suggesting that everyone stop flying.

I honestly don’t think they exist anymore, not post Covid.
I remember getting a quote for my honeymoon 6 years ago for the most amazing luxury holiday, it was very remote and even included a hot air balloon ride! When I saw the price I laughed, it was extortionate so we obviously didn’t go!

But now my holiday this year isn’t far off that price! And it definitely isn’t anywhere near as luxurious
.

I don't do foreign ones. I have sea in my birth country and know all the ropes there of having any holiday I want. What we do is last minute Devon one here, just booked amazing cottage for 700 Pounds and we budget for food ( not really LOL), as we go there

I second this idea. Love holidays website has loads from Scotland at a good price.

We flew from Edinburgh this week and lots of northern English accents heard 😊

We used to fly from Newcastle rather than Scotland at the start of the Scottish school holidays for the same reason-we saved hundreds!

I think the lack of cheaper holidays this summer has a lot to do with the crap weather this year-people are desperate to feel the sun on their backs

Slovenia

PassingStranger · 16/08/2024 10:26

What is a deal though?
They don't exist like they did before Covid.
I could pick up a break then for well under a thousand, not so now.
Depends on how much money you have, as to whether it's a deal.

People flying on holidays and mini breaks a few times a year are a drop in the ocean compared with business travel, heavy industry, industrial farming and data centres running 'the internet'.

Definitely

And lol at "the masses" ...what she means is the plebs / non rich people travelling abroad. I mean. Ugh . They need to know their place (skeggy / Blackpool )

iloveshetlandponies · 16/08/2024 15:04

We got a week in Spain in an air b&b next month for £2k

For 5 of us inc flights

So if you can travel off peak good deals are still to be had

DoopSnoggySnogg · 16/08/2024 15:09

Fights will depend on where you’re flying from. Lots of places will be hot at this time of year, not just to obvious places like Spain etc. What about Croatia, Poland, Netherlands, Montenegro etc.

Ultravox · 16/08/2024 15:52

Where are you based? Flight prices very different depending on your location.
