Too Hot for a Beach Day?

kentishgodess30 · 12/08/2024 08:06

Hello all! With temperatures set to hit 30° today, we’ve planned a beach outing. I’m starting to wonder, am I being unreasonable taking the family out in this heat? Would you brave the beach, or opt for a cooler day indoors with the curtains drawn?

Where are you, it is raining here!

I would go to the beach, which is always cooler than inland.

Branleuse · 12/08/2024 08:35

Ill be at the beach later. Its always a few degrees cooler at the coast, and I love going for a swim in the sea on a hot day.

I can't bear the beach on a hot day - but I am definitely not a sun worshipper! My preferences are the woods (ideally with stream or river) or cinema if it's really too hot.

mondaytosunday · 12/08/2024 08:42

Likely a bit cooler with the sea breeze. The sun is the sun whether 20 or 30.

Willmafrockfit · 12/08/2024 08:46

it is perfect for a beach day, depending on how long it takes you to get there

Blingismything · 12/08/2024 08:55

As long as there is guaranteed parking available I'd go. As early as possible.

TheChosenTwo · 12/08/2024 08:57

Well I’m sitting in my office in my spare room today cracking through a really boring list of things and have a view of the garden in full sunshine - I’d bite your hand off to spend the day at the beach instead! My kids are older now, the middle one is at work but the 20 year old is taking the 12 year old to the beach for crazy golf and a swim in the sea - I’m jealous of them and anyone else who ends up at the seaside today!

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/08/2024 09:02

Why on earth would you want to sit in your house with the curtains drawn?! 🤯

JollyGreenSnake · 12/08/2024 09:03

Too hot for beach time. Stay in the cool.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/08/2024 09:06

Depends on what sort of beach and age of kids. The sort where you can mostly be in or on the water yes (we'd do that in hotter temps in the med) . The sort where you'd just be playing or lying on the beach ... probably not, we'd be more likely to go to somewhere with trees for the option of decent shade or an inland alternative for in/on the water.

SweetBirdsong · 12/08/2024 09:18

Well I'm off to the beach. In about 20 minutes! Just waiting for DH to get himself ready! Grin I love the heat and sun, and intend to make the most of it, after we have had such a basic bitch of a summer up to 3 weeks ago!

rockingbird · 12/08/2024 09:22

I live by the beach and can assure you it will be rammed! In fact all weekend it's been relentless .. we have a beach hut so it's much easier to dip in and out the sea, dry off and keep in the shade. If your on the sand all day in such temperatures it can be quite dangerous. Please check the tide times, ideally if you have young kids go where there is a tidal pool as this is safer and much more shallow. Bring an umbrella for shade or pop up tent if you can. I absolutely love seeing families having a day out at the beach, it's a joy to hear the kids squeal in the sea but all too often I see burnt people walking around by 4pm trying to get out of the town dehydrated and tempers rising 🥴

Droolylabradors · 12/08/2024 09:23

I'd love a day on the beach. I love rubbing suncream and sand into my skin. Iove sandy sandwiches. The whole thing. Love feeling hot and tired and having a shower at the end of the day. Literally makes me so happy!

Sadly the rest of my family can't stay in the sun so I'm destined for autumnal city breaks forever!

Do it op, assuming your children don't mind suncream!

Agree with that analysis!

I can't go to the beach today, instead I'll be wandering in and out of the garden and soaking up the soupy heat. Lovely.

FeralNun · 12/08/2024 09:28

Stares out at Cornish mizzle.

Cries.

KreedKafer · 12/08/2024 09:28

30C? That’s a hot summer day but it’s not exceptional. Also, it will not be as hot as that on the beach because you’ll get a breeze.

Are we seriously at a point where people think 30C is dangerous heatwave weather?! Even in the UK, it’s really not.

RosyappleA · 12/08/2024 09:29

I will be thinking of the beach today whilst I sit in my local costa which always has the AC on full blast even in the winter. Did you decide to go in the end?

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 12/08/2024 09:31

Beach or nice shady park if you fancy something a bit cooler. Or do you have an outdoor pool nearby? Would absolutely not waste it inside though!

hopelessbusiness · 12/08/2024 09:42

@FeralNun me too! Soul destroying isn't it?

K0OLA1D · 12/08/2024 09:42

It's absolutely pissing it down here most of the day!

CellophaneFlower · 12/08/2024 09:44

Leafygreen84 · 12/08/2024 08:12

In the U.K.?
go the beach. The weather is crap 90% of the time, why would you spend the one nice day of summer inside? Bonkers.
take shade, water, cover ups and go the beach.

You realise the UK massively varies temperature wise, right? One nice day of summer? It's been glorious here most days for weeks. Best summer we've had in the last couple of years.

Agree it's raining here but got to get out around 11am. No doubt I will be on the sun lounger by 2pm, DS is going in the large paddling pool

Vettrianofan · 12/08/2024 09:46

Haha, not here in Scotland today 🤣

ns87 · 12/08/2024 09:48

I would go, but pack what you need
