Hi all,

this isn’t really an Aibu post but I’m desperate for any advice.
i do not have an nhs dentist and finding one in wales is next to impossible. Two days ago I had a tooth out via emergency dentist except I’m now in more pain than ever. I’ve got a terrible headache along with excruciating pain and I feel really sick. I’ve attached a photo but there appears to be a large red lump growing next to it. I have an awful taste in my mouth. Any advice?

also I know my teeth are awful and gross, please no shame it’s embarrassing enough anyway

You need to ring the emergency dentist again. That could be dry socket.

Pottedpalm · 07/08/2024 06:53

Agree

Pottedpalm · 07/08/2024 06:54

I would be happy to have those teeth! Way better than mine.

Lollygaggle · 07/08/2024 12:23

Just because you live in Wales you do not have to see a dentist in Wales , you can try to see if any dentist over the border will see you .

I would try to phone up dentists in Wales as well as dentists who do NHS now all have a new patient target they have to hit each week.

It looks as if you have a temporary filling in one of your teeth and you will not want to leave it long before it causes you problems again.

spiderlight · 07/08/2024 12:25

Ring the dentist who removed the tooth - it might be dry socket, as mentioned above, and they should be able to give you pain-relieving stuff to put into the socket.

Allybob88 · 07/08/2024 12:29

I had dry socket after a tooth removal and honestly I've never felt pain like it. Phone back the emergency dentist and they will see you, I needed antibiotics in the end.

Rainbow978 · 07/08/2024 12:30

Thats dry socket can you ring 111 and ask there advice i’ve had it before and they helped me

gamerchick · 07/08/2024 12:32

You need to go and and get it packed up. Dry socket is nasty and needs sorting.

boredybored · 07/08/2024 12:35

Is that a stitch ? If not what is the brown thing?

loropianalover · 07/08/2024 12:37

I’ve heard dry socket is some of the worst pain imaginable, so I’m very sorry if it’s that! Call the emergency dentist again and say you think you have it, they’ll squeeze you in. Once they pack it up it’s supposed to offer instant relief.

Exposed bone probably. The blood clot comes out and exposes the bone, so it hurts like a bastard. The hole needs packed to stop it

Thank you all, I’ve had to manage all day and will have to tonight as I have no transport and the kids with me. I’m going to ring tomorrow as I’ve been sick, I’ve had a temperature and I’m really dizzy. Not sure if it’s related or not but it’s odd timing.

im in so much pain with this, I wish I left the bloody tooth in, this is worse than anything. Also I have the worst taste in my mouth, making me feel so sixk

You now have systematic symptoms of an infection. Phone 111 as you do need antibiotics now. Also please be aware of symptoms of sepsis https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sepsis/

Cycle paracetamol and ibuprofen, and rinse with salty water from a cooled kettle. There's little else you can do at home. I'd be tempted to see if any pus is coming out. Been there done that had to beg dentist for antibiotics, none given, in the end I had to go back to the dental hospital and beg them for antibiotics. Have a read up on peridontal abscess.

Not a periodontal abcess , you have to have a tooth for that.
Ibuprofen should not be taken if you have asthma .

phone 111 for advice.

time2changeCharlieBrown · 07/08/2024 20:09

xyz111 · 07/08/2024 20:25

I got dry socket, literally worse pain than childbirth!!! A course of antibiotics helped.

Zombieof3 · 07/08/2024 23:53

I’ve just rang 111 as my partner has got back with the car. I’m still in a lot of pain and feeling quite queasy. I’m waiting for a call back from 111 now and I might just have to take tomorrow off work but I don’t think they will be most pleased about it 😟

They don’t seem too concerned and will ring me back after 9am x

Oblomov24 · 08/08/2024 02:13

Poor you. Please don't let them be dismissive of your pain, tooth pain is generally the worst pain there is.

keepYourDogQuiet · 08/08/2024 09:17

Hope you have managed to sort something out.

Zombieof3 · 08/08/2024 13:18

I’ve got an appointment at 3.20 today, I hope they do something xx

OP posts:
Adviceneeeeded · 08/08/2024 13:44

If they don't. Call your GP. They don't like to give for dental infections but if you are poorly and explain they should give you anti biotics with a promise you will get to the dentist ASAP. Speaking from experience. Hopefully the dentist will sort it for you though! Hope you feel better soon @Zombieof3

Zombieof3 · 08/08/2024 16:21

Just back from the dentist, it was indeed a dry socket. He’s put antibiotics directly in the gum and some other stuff to ease the pain, it’s feeling a lot less painful already! Thank you all for being so helpful xx
