To wish it would throw it down with rain so at least I would get some peace

Very rare couple of days to myself DH on a golf trip eldest DD on a work course youngest two away with family. Planned to spend a couple of days just pottering, sitting in the garden, using the hot tub and just relaxing as it's nice hot weather and enjoying the peace.

Neighbour has been renovating (a previously renovated house for the last two years, so had 6 years of this in total) came home yesterday to find scaffolding up around their house.

Turns out he is replacing the roof (which was only done a few years ago) so have now got banging, which dog is going nuts over, cannot open doors as dog keeps going out barking at them, music blaring and one roofer singing ( he is tone deaf) and shouty mobile phone conversations from the roof, also do not fancy trying to sunbathe or relax knowing there is 6 guys on a roof looking directly into my garden.

You lost me at hot tub I'm afraid.

SanMarzano · 31/07/2024 12:35

Is the dog yours?

quicklybeendrivenmad · 31/07/2024 12:36

Yes its my dog

You're not wrong to be annoyed, but since there's not much you can do about it just get yourself a good pair of noise-blocking headphones.

Zimunya · 31/07/2024 12:39

Ah, sorry @quicklybeendrivenmad - you had such a nice few days planned. What a disappointment. There doesn't seem to be an immediate solution, but I do feel your frustration.

leafybrew · 31/07/2024 12:40

Crikey - that sounds super annoying.

@stormywhethers321 has got the right idea.

I'd be wondering what the hell is wrong with their roof that it needs replacing again??

quicklybeendrivenmad · 31/07/2024 12:42

nothing wrong with the roof he does not like the tiles

Rainbowsponge · 31/07/2024 12:43

People probably feel the same about your dog tbf??

He must be absolutely minted - we needed a new roof this year and it cost £9K.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/07/2024 12:46

very bad timing!

Have you got a beach or park nearby that you can decamp to for a while?

Must have more money than sense! Daft twat.

That would piss me off too. Not enough to wish for rain though.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 31/07/2024 12:48

@Rainbowsponge he never barks normally, its just the fact he can hear the banging and see the blokes on the roof, hence why I have the doors shut not to annoy other neighbours

CloudPop · 31/07/2024 12:49

Bloody annoying for you. I'd be pissed off too.

ColaColaCube · 31/07/2024 12:55

It is what it is. You can spend your rare time to yourself getting stressed about it or you could do something productive like taking yourself to a local park or nature trail with a picnic and a good book.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 31/07/2024 13:00

@VickyEadieofThigh am guessing will be much more than that its a massive roof and he is not just replacing the tiles I can now see into his loft

@ColaColaCube not stressed just a bit pissed off because not very often I get to enjoy my garden in peace but will just have to re-think plans for the next few days

Maybe book a nice hotel somewhere.

funinthesun19 · 31/07/2024 13:14

I’m the same. I love summer and the nice sunny weather, but I also love having a break from my neighbours when the rain comes.

Ours was £16k! I still haven't recovered 🙁

Corinthiana · 31/07/2024 13:17

Some people just see their houses as a continuing project. We have a neighbour like that. If it's not one thing, it's another. All noisy.

changedusernameforthis1 · 31/07/2024 13:17

I would also like some rain. My poor garden is looking less green and more yellow by the day. misses point of the thread completely

ReadingSoManyThreads · 31/07/2024 13:18

Oh god @quicklybeendrivenmad I feel your pain. This would piss me off too and I am currently experiencing similar, although not as bad now. I managed to get a few weeks off from my normal schedule, thinking "great, I can get some peace and relaxation time", then neighbour knocks on the door to inform me he's moving out for a while, while his house gets underpinned and an extension doing. Fuck me, the noise from the pneumatic drill for 8 hours per day for weeks drove me close to insanity.

The drilling has stopped, so just general building noises, which is better, but still...I enjoy when they go home for the day. Hoping you manage to get some enjoyment in your evenings instead x

Ineedwinenow · 31/07/2024 13:22

I feel your pain, I live on a school road so all day it’s usually busy with parked cars and people coming and going to the school, then break times come around and the kids are in the playground screaming, I couldn’t wait for the holidays then my next door neighbour has just started a huge extension, new driveway and windows so it’s now drilling and banging, I could honestly cry 🫣

Pinkelephant66 · 31/07/2024 13:24

Maybe you need move to the countryside if you want silence

MonsteraMama · 31/07/2024 13:27

Oh how annoying! Can you get some good noise cancelling headphones and just crack on anyway? Seems a shame not to make the most of the lovely weather while it lasts.
