That publicising this event today is out of order

A local soft play chose last night and today to promote a Taylor swift themed event- it wasn’t out there before hand, just emerged yesterday evening. I think this is out of order given what’s happened in Southport. I sent them a polite private message - alerting them that the Southport event was also Swiftie themed and that they should reconsider their advert. It’s been “seen” but no reply.
AIBU?

What happened was awful - but surely that doesn't mean other events should not take place. How far away is the event from Southport? If close by, then no, maybe not very tactful. If miles away - then I don't see the problem.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 30/07/2024 19:29

Give over

So no events slightly related to Taylor swift should be advertised?

Have we been warned that a group of men are targeting Taylor swift events? If so the answer wouldn’t be stop people doing what they want. It would to police the events and stop murderous bastards.

SauviGone · 30/07/2024 19:30

If it’s in Ormskirk then yeah, pretty crass.

If it’s 300 miles away I don’t see the problem.

Wakeywake · 30/07/2024 19:31

There's no suggestion that the fact it was a Swift themed event had anything to do with the attack, is there? It was purely incidental. You might as well say that no dance classes should be advertised, or no events aimed at children.

DaisyChain505 · 30/07/2024 19:35

This is a reach. Let it go.

AllstarFacilier · 30/07/2024 19:46

If it’s in Southport then I could see it being ooor timing. If it’s anywhere else in the country then I’m embarrassed for you for messaging them.

purplepeopleeater28 · 30/07/2024 19:47

I think you’re being weird tbh

Izzymoon · 30/07/2024 19:48

So if there was a Taylor swift concert tonight, in another place, you think it should have been cancelled?
Or is it just small businesses?

These things are planned and coordinated ages in advance.

LaLaLouella · 30/07/2024 19:48

You are reading too much into this - the fact the attack took place at an event themed around Taylor Swift doesn't mean all others should be cancelled. Should all kids summer clubs stop?

Alther · 30/07/2024 19:49

Where is it op?

Sirzy · 30/07/2024 19:49

I live close to Southport and lots of things have been cancelled or postponed. Further afield I wouldn’t expect that to happen though

Shockvote · 30/07/2024 19:52

If it’s in Southport, yes, you have a point. If it’s in Aberdeen, I probably wouldn’t have gone with that theme but no, I don’t think it should be cancelled.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 30/07/2024 19:52

I think if it were my business I'd wait a couple of days to advertise the event as it would just feel a bit wrong.

But if I saw one being advertised I wouldn't really think much about it.

LlynTegid · 30/07/2024 19:53

I think it could have waited, or been branded as something else.

SaintHonoria · 30/07/2024 19:54

Don't be so ridiculous.

Having a similar event isn't being disrespectful at all.

Life goes on and we must never curtail our enjoyment of things and pander to evil people.

Thedoctorswife1 · 30/07/2024 19:55

so the event isn’t near Southport, reading these responses it seems it’s just me who thinks this is out of order. I don’t think the event shouldn’t happen but timing of the promotion seems really off. Just to clarify, it wasn’t scheduled at all before last night so it just feels a bit wrong. Looks like IABU though

Blueroses99 · 30/07/2024 20:03

I agree with you OP, seems odd to promote this particular type of themed event after the tragedy, if it wasn’t planned or promoted before.

Lilysgoneshopping · 30/07/2024 20:06

A bit on the fence really. Where and when is it due to take place?
As horrible as the Southport murders were, life still has to go on fro the rest of us x

Binglebong · 30/07/2024 20:12

I would have waited a few days before advertising it if it wasn't already out there.

Calling · 30/07/2024 20:24

I don't think people should try and stop it.

MargaretThursday · 30/07/2024 20:30

If it was on fb the advert may have been already scheduled.

3CustardCreams · 31/07/2024 04:07

I think other people here are being a bit harsh. Given that you say this event was not planned or advertised prior to the Southport incident - yes it would seem to be a bit in bad taste.

TeaAndTattoos · 31/07/2024 04:17

I’m from Southport I couldn’t bother myself to get upset over someone else having Taylor swift style party we have bigger things to be worried about right now. Thank you for the support though we need it right now ❤️

MillyMollyMandHey · 31/07/2024 05:33

People getting upset at things like this is the problem. They should be upset at what’s caused this vile deed to happen, not handwringing over ‘offence’.

AGoingConcern · 31/07/2024 05:41

How do you know this wasn’t already scheduled & planned, OP?
