Are the Irish adapters/plugs the same as England? They were but now Ireland is part of Europe I wasn't sure

In houses in villages in on the border, they have both types of sockets, doubting on whether they paid for their appliances in £ or €.

Surely it depends which part of their house is on which side of the border? Isn’t the upstairs UK & downstairs ROI?

Psychoticbreak · 22/07/2024 20:31

To be fair to everyone the outside sockets are 3 pin and they are trying to put 2 pin inside.

SeeSeeRider · 22/07/2024 20:38

Janedoe82 · 22/07/2024 11:27

Lol. yes the same. Ireland has been part of the EU for many years.

Ireland joined the EU in 1973 when the UK did.

Usually more kitchen on one side, Good Room on the other.

Glitterybee · 22/07/2024 20:40

Don’t listen to these wind ups OP.

I’m Irish and most of us haven’t got electric yet. We are becoming more modernised though so no doubt we will get it soon.

SeeSeeRider · 22/07/2024 20:42

When I lived in Dublin for a year, the house had exactly the same kind of 3-pin plugs and sockets they have in Britain. This was in 2006-2007. What are these other ones?

That would be historical due to the fact the area around Dublin known as The Pale was the part of Ireland under direct English rule in the late middle ages. The 3-pin plugs in Dublin are a legacy of that time.

Psychoticbreak · 22/07/2024 20:50

@SeeSeeRider we changed our three holes to resemble shamrock leaves.

Duh.

@connemarailoveyou are you kind of sorry you asked now?? 😂

Last year I went to North Cyprus and they had UK 3 pin style plugs but in the Greek Cyprus - euro plugs. Malta is 3 pin plugs

My USB plug adapters have an interchangeable pin plate so took the euro pin plate which weighs grams with me. I have one similar to this but only got UK and Euro pin plates https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lencent-Charger-Universal-Adaptor-Worldwide/dp/B07QMVB2WK/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2M3722DRKZB5P&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.60lRntm2Fx_G2O410j7-CLGN3vtVPT0aVegEV2z2BjwaZrjxe7I-jQQY0y1w83E3odEJDhGT3KINct6MPyWRMyFyKwTPLbOJf3icAEdYg0fHrpOAxRC-uayABqJlbvfM_SWm5ICwusciCMYmviU5rBtAPNWeAe06gy_4vVbgbyhjnHnZBvRB6SOPExrEIz0DYpBrd5ClZWNDUVolhPodPvAKQWPsKn1-1mkbGgyxCboqxiJTUYlQ-hYKrCR0aLBWzo07-QENsEZy7IB-1gNTIZFLaYVf4GADsWyAQBMuDw0.lKxF162RQwWerRNcJGZubz99RI3OejI7ZYGoBg1nNq8&dib_tag=se&keywords=worldwide+usb+plug&qid=1721678285&sprefix=worldwide+usb+plug%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

That's what we want you to think. We sell much more adaptors if people bring the wrong plugs.

Changing to driving on the right was a bit chaotic at the border there for a while, but the accident rate does seem to be falling now.

You say this, I worked in Belfast and back in 1999 our visiting American engineers asked just this.

They asked me whereabouts the road changed to the right after they got to the border

You can’t argue with Americans, while some will claim it’s a lazy stereotype it’s reality that a great many of them are actually just incredibly dumb.
An american was once in complete outrage at me that I didn’t sing the national anthem … the American national anthem … in Ireland.
He thought “everybody did”?!! Like in the world.

Starlingexpress · 22/07/2024 21:55

To be fair the speed signs do actually change from mph to km on the border.

The naughty leprechauns keep paining over them.

Oh god the stories I could tell about those boys.

One said the brushes grabbed her car in the car wash and slammed it into the wall (huuuuge big dent down the side)

Another asked if I knew her cousin who was an O'Malley from Cork, I'm in feckin Belfast.

I felt seriously sorry though on St Paddy's day one guy from New York came in dressed as a leprechaun expecting us to be dressed up, there we were in our boring office stuff.

Psychoticbreak · 22/07/2024 22:04

There was a time I met some Americans in W5 on Paddys day all kitted out in their tricolour stuff. 'Southerners' said some in disgust under their breath. Jesus H says I stop that no they are not they are merely Americans - not from anywhere near Cork.

Again a few years back, my son was walking at the front of the City Hall where it was advertising the Titanic exhibition.

He caught a line from a conversation "what the hell is that doing, everyone knows the Titanic was Anerican through and through"

I bet they grew up to support Trump.
