To ask about plug adapters Ireland

Are the Irish adapters/plugs the same as England? They were but now Ireland is part of Europe I wasn't sure

OP posts:

When was Ireland not in Europe, OP?

Was it floated over and sewn on?

I don't know if you're in the UK or not, but if you are you have presumably done the same as the UK was also in the EU

What they're now doing in the UK is changing people's plugs according to how they voted in the referendum.

If you voted remain, a crack team of Polish and Romanian electricians come into your house overnight and swap all your plug sockets over to European ones and change your appliances to state of the art German ones with European plugs.

If you voted leave, Wetherspoon's team of in-house electricians will come and remove all electrical services from your home so you will be required to seek all sustenance and entertainment from Tim Martin's fine local establishments, with none of that foreign muck of course.

Of course it takes time to check how everyone voted and get round to sorting this, but they are going as fast as they can.

Edited

How do they know you're telling the truth about how you voted though? And what about homes where residents voted differently to one another?

Shaketherombooga · 22/07/2024 14:06

Didn’t it used to be part of America? Thats why there’s so many yanks running around looking for their ancestors?

I wish they would. We might get better weather.

It’s all about how you’re ‘perceived’ so mostly they just ask which primary school
you went to… apparently that sorts out your ethnicity/religious persuasion/ political leanings AND which sockets you’d prefer…

I thought that only worked in Northern Ireland and maybe Glasgow? Although soccer club supported would be all you need in Northern Ireland or Glasgow.

Shaketherombooga · 22/07/2024 14:17

In another note - looking at ‘similar threads’ at the bottom of this page … HOW many people are there who seemingly are unarsed about checking Google
for facts? Why would you come in MN to ask about Turkish plugs???

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/07/2024 14:21

In houses in villages in on the border, they have both types of sockets, doubting on whether they paid for their appliances in £ or €.

Not"doubting".

Ireland has always been in Europe, it has also been a member of the EU since the early 70s.
What has any of this got to do with plug sockets?

RocketPanda · 22/07/2024 14:25

The poor aul hamster powering the Irish Internet wheel will need it's hips replaced.

Sparrowball · 22/07/2024 14:27

Also, just be aware that we take the roads in at night if it's raining, and it rains a lot.

Have you any experience with an ass and cart? If you ask for directions you'll likely be told to turn left at Tommy's farm and right at old Mrs. Nugent's.

I’m on a Facebook group for an Italian resort and some of the questions asked there are unbelievable like whether it’s better to tip in dollars or euros.

This is an absolutely brilliant thread - almost as brilliant as the light given off from the bulb hanging down from the kitchen in our home. Sure it's only recently that we got the electric to our house, and they had to remove all of the gas sockets (very dangerous job altogether) we had.

Leprechauns are bitey cunts if you step on them. Scars on my legs to prove it.

They don't like it if you've got mandrakes planted in your garden. The two don't mix very well.

HJ40 · 22/07/2024 15:25

You're good for Singapore, Cyprus and Hong Kong top OP, without any EU Hokey Cokey concerns.

Wishimaywishimight · 22/07/2024 15:34

I just bring a supply of candles whenever I go on holiday, saves worrying about them new fangled plugs 'n sockets.

It's marvelous, isn't it?

We found stuff we thought we'd lost forever when we got the electric in.

nozbottheblue · 22/07/2024 16:21

Great thread altogether.
I'm told you can even plug in the old meat safe when you get th'electric in?

booksunderthebed · 22/07/2024 16:21

If you take the boat from Holyhead to Dublin they might have scandinavian plugs (or maybe that changed recently...) but otherwise you should be good here with UK appliances.

Seriously I was talking to a tourist recently (american I think...) and they mentioned they had been in Belfast. They didn't seem to realise there was a border and it was part of the UK there.

I can always tell when cross the border because the kilometres change to miles on the satnav and everything is wee.

Depends on whether you leave the toaster on the counter or in the press I think.

Or say hotpress instead of airing cupboard.

What if you didn’t vote ? Do you not get any plugs at all ?
This is all giving me a right giggle!

All their sockets are European 2-pin but all the plugs on their electrical equipment are 3-pin
