📺 in Bedroom

I've realised I've gone 5 years without a TV in my bedroom.
I'm now realising I don't like spending any time in my bedroom because of no TV or radio.
Will having both of these help me enjoy / organise/ clean my room more regularly?

Ps need recommendations / sizes/ best place to have it.

I don't allow a TV in the marital bedroom. Husband doesn't complain 😀

ContentSolitude · 18/07/2024 23:32

Apparently having a TV in your bedroom isn't good for your personal married life. That said, I do have a TV in the room and don't care if it's not good for my personal married life. Me and DH enjoy watching before bed. It's on the wall at the end of the bed.

As far as radio, I just use my phone and do find it makes tidying and spending time in my room easier and more motivating.

Aquarius1234 · 18/07/2024 23:35

The wall opposite the bed is sliding wardrobes, so it's annoying where to have it without a bracket.

Yes zero motivation when there is silence upstairs.

All about where you want to spend your time, live and let live!

We’ve always had a TV in the bedroom and there is nothing wrong with my marital relationship , the TV has an off switch

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2024 00:53

We've never had TVs in bedrooms, for either DH and me or the DC. I didn't exactly ban it, it just never occurred to me to have TVs in bedrooms. Also, we have TVs in two rooms downstairs so I reckoned it wasn't necessary.

Of course, the minute DS1 turned 18 he bought one for his room Grin

Overtired345 · 19/07/2024 03:41

We have a TV in our bedroom but we only watch it when we're sick 😅 it's useful when you have a bad flu /first trimester sickness etc and don't feel like going downstairs. Has not hurt my relationship

sparkles79 · 19/07/2024 04:20

We have a tv in our room and it only gets used when we or the dc are sick lol

momager1 · 19/07/2024 04:30

there is a tv in all three of our bedrooms (two of them are large 55 inch..the other one is just a small one..i don't know maybe 32 inch.) Another big one in the living room area (65 inch) foot note. there are only 2 of us and 2 dogs here. My reasoning is that what if we had guests here lol. I am an idiot that wasted alot of money.

FantasticFanny · 19/07/2024 04:40

Tv in bedroom here, it’s on a chest of drawers but I’m thinking of wall mounting it. It is watched rarely but nice to have if you’re feeling under par, or even tired/cold. I also have a DAB radio - hardly used, I used to stream audible through the radio but now have an Alexa in here too.

westcoastdweller · 19/07/2024 04:41

We have sometimes had one sometimes not over the years in various bedrooms (moved quite a lot) so I have no judgment either way. Currently not and no plans to have one. It was good when DC were small to cuddle up with.

When we want to watch something together these days, on a very occasional weekend long lie, we just prop up a lap top. If I am sick I just watch on my phone.

Like many things on here - you do you. it's fine if you don't want one but doesn't suggest marital problems if you do!

PashaMinaMio · 19/07/2024 04:48

I like having a small bedroom tv on a bracket up on the wall. It’s parallel to the bed but has a swivel bracket which allows it to swing out so I can clearly see it.

I like having it on for the news in the mornings as I’m moving around getting ready for the day, making the bed etc.

Apart from that, rarely watch it unless sleepless or poorly. It doesn’t affect anything else I get up to in the bedroom.

tealeaff · 19/07/2024 05:07

We use to have a tv in our room. Loved watching tv in bed (although I alway fell asleep) we don't now and I don't miss it. If you are doing jobs in the room you could play a podcast on your phone or had something on a iPad (if you have one)

PaleSunshineOfHope · 19/07/2024 05:30

You can get beds with an integrated tv that pops up from the foot of the bed at the press of a button. Personally I just use my Fire tablet if I want to watch tv in bed.

ReframeFeelings · 19/07/2024 05:33

I'm a TV addict. Got a black and white portable when I was about 10. Now I have a pretty big TV in my room and it's on nearly all the time.

BooneyBeautiful · 19/07/2024 05:52

I have a small tv on the wardrobe opposite the end of the bed. Ex-DH used to insist on it! More recently I have been provisionally diagnosed with ADHD which, according to my psychotherapist, means that I am likely to prefer to have a tv on in order to sleep as it distracts me from my own whirring thoughts.

MayonnaiseOnMyChips · 19/07/2024 06:55

An Alexa for the bedroom so you can play music is always an option?

We never had a TV in our room until lockdown hit and we got one so the kids could separate them selves and watch a film in our room if someone was watching something different downstairs and now I really enjoy having a TV in the bedroom.

CheeseWisely · 19/07/2024 06:58

No TV in the bedroom here. If someone is under the weather and wants to watch something while they're in bed we have laptops.

Have you tired a podcast instead? Also good at distracting from your own thoughts, but without a screen which is detrimental to sleep.

Kaleidoscope101 · 19/07/2024 07:00

No TV in the bedroom here, no husband either 🤣🤣🤣

Perfectlystill · 19/07/2024 07:19

Telly in the bedroom all the way. My husband had one when we got together and I said OMG how awful etc etc.

Now I love it. I have a really hard job and it's such a relief sometimes to have a bath and get into bed and watch something really good on Netflix.

I can't work out if you're joking, why would guests want a monster TV in the bedroom 😀

Itsjustmeheretoday · 19/07/2024 07:24

Have only had a TV in the bedroom once as we had more TVs than rooms and it was never turned on once. Apart from that have never had a TV in the room. Apparently bedrooms are meant for sleep and sex only, according to experts!

EnterFunnyNameHere · 19/07/2024 07:25

I don't like spending any time in my bedroom because of no TV or radio

I'm a bit confused - bedroom is for sleeping? Why does it matter that you don't like spending any time in there? Presumably you have a tv in another room and enjoy spending time there?

I'm explaining badly - what I mean is I like my bedroom fine, but it's not a place I enjoy spending time in when I'm awake because it's not what it's for...?
