📺 in Bedroom

I've realised I've gone 5 years without a TV in my bedroom.
I'm now realising I don't like spending any time in my bedroom because of no TV or radio.
Will having both of these help me enjoy / organise/ clean my room more regularly?

Ps need recommendations / sizes/ best place to have it.

We have a tv bed. My partner works nights, so when he goes to work I go upstairs and watch TV in bed for an hour before I sleep.

Allfur · 19/07/2024 07:32

I don't even like phones in the bedroom

OMGsamesame · 19/07/2024 08:05

Why not start with a radio?

I've always read that TV in bedroom is bad for sleep and sex life.

Aussieland · 19/07/2024 08:10

No TV in bedroom for over 40 years. Mind you no TV anywhere…
I put on a podcast if I want to do something that takes more than a couple of minutes in my bedroom otherwise I would be out on the sofa reading a book or looking at my phone, doing things on laptop or talking to my boyfriend.
i don’t really spend much time in my bedroom apart from sleeping and getting dressed etc so am not sure what it is you are trying to do that involves being in your bedroom but being able to look at a screen.
A TV just seems like another “thing” that isn’t really needed.
Fully aware that’s an opinion

Shielehdie · 19/07/2024 08:13

I don’t like having a tv in my bedroom because it helps me for that space to be delineated as a sleep space. If I watched tv there in the mornings or evenings for example I wouldn’t feel like I’d properly started or finished the day. But it’s a personal choice - I know that for others it works really well and they love the option of watching tv in bed.

RaininSummer · 19/07/2024 08:33

I don't have a TV in the bedroom but if I have to spend time there cleaning, ironing etc, I play podcasts or music on my phone.

lazyarse123 · 19/07/2024 08:41

We had one but I always fell asleep with it on so when it broke we didn't bother to replace it.
When the kids were young we had one in each bedroom and I used to put them all on while cleaning bedrooms and bathrooms saved me saying "I'll just watch this and then I'll start".

StrangerOnThePlane · 19/07/2024 09:33

We have a tv in our bedroom, it's a 65" and it's on the wall. I like spending time in our room, it's nice to lie in bed and watch a film alone or with my partner.

jellybe · 19/07/2024 13:05

We don't have a tv in our room. It's where I go to unwind with a book or listen to a podcast. We have an Alexa in there which is good for music.
Also don't think it is good to fall asleep in front of a tv which is what I'd end up doing if I did have one in the bedroom.

KimberleyClark · 19/07/2024 14:57

Haven’t had a TV in bedroom for years. Will use my laptop or tablet if I want to watch TV in bed.

Aquarius1234 · 19/07/2024 15:50

I bought a laptop just after Xmas but haven't used it much for films. Not as comfortable as I thought.
Do people just leave in on the floor when sleeping. I don't have a big enough bedside table.

I went through most of my adult life without a tv in the bedroom. Then DH offered to put one in (it was spare). I said there was no point, don't do it, it will just be something else to dust. Turns out I was wrong. I LOVE having it in there. I occasionally nap to an episode of something harmless. When I was recovering from a surgery and didn't have the energy to do anything else I had the tv. I go to bed early to wind down and really enjoy having something light on. It feels to me like a minor luxury.

Have you tired a podcast instead? Also good at distracting from your own thoughts, but without a screen which is detrimental to sleep.

I had thought about it and also listening to the radio, but I prefer the tv and it gives a bit of light to the bedroom. I watch it for a little while to relax and then turn over to sleep. TV turns itself off after three hours.

MouseofCommons · 19/07/2024 16:48

My little bedroom TV is great. My bedroom is warmer than the living room so I watch most TV upstairs.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 19/07/2024 17:20

Not had a TV in the bedroom for about 13 years, didn't really use one when we did.
Love spending time in there though, probably my favourite space in the house.

I don't allow a TV in the marital bedroom. Husband doesn't complain 😀

Is he allowed to complain? 😉

We don't usually watch ours but it was lovely when I had Covid and was in bed for 2 weeks.

catin8oots · 19/07/2024 17:40

I've always hated tvs in the bedroom. Keeps me awake and fucks up my sleep. EXDH always insisted on one.

He would insist on having a massive one on full volume all night then moan about his crap sleep. He would fall asleep and I would get up to turn it off then he would wake up shouting at me.

I love my pitch black peaceful bedroom now.

PeloMom · 19/07/2024 17:41

Aquarius1234 · 18/07/2024 23:35

Yes zero motivation when there is silence upstairs.

You can put a podcast, movie, book etc on your phone and listen either on speaker or wireless buds. You don’t need a tv for that

mymymyDelilahh · 19/07/2024 18:32

Never had one in a bedroom ever, been married 40 years, we now sleep in different rooms, we do toy occasionally with the idea of having one as really just another place for one of us to watch something the other one doesn't want to - but it hasn't happened yet.

I think I would much prefer to turn one of the other rooms upstairs in to a kind of comfy room with a chair, tv, proper reading light - who knows what we will do!

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 19/07/2024 18:48

We have a bedroom each. Mine doesn't have room for a tv really but I might ask for a shelf or something. All social activities are done in his room because there is a focal point. Mine is where I go to sleep and although it's a bit of a sanctuary with chill out music and a tranquility light it serves no other purpose.

Alicewinn · 19/07/2024 18:51

I am a recent tv in bedroom convert ! I think it’s bloody brilliant 🤩
