School teacher fired for escort work

Firstly, apologies for linking to a Daily Mail article!

What do we think about this? I’m quite torn tbh.
I’ve always been of the opinion that whatever individuals get up to in their private lives does not affect their ability to do a job well.
However, I appreciate teachers are held up to a high standard. I believe it’s even more extreme in the USA - teachers have been fired for photos on social media of them having alcoholic beverages!
Someone must’ve really had in for her to trawl the net, and dob her in…😳
I don’t believe the assertion that it would lure the pupils into a life of vice..somewhat OTT.
She was foolish though as she can’t have disguised her indentity on these sites..I don’t understand that at all!
AIBU: she has no place as a teacher, brings the profession into disrepute.
YANBU: even teachers are entitled to a private life, and should have no bearing on their ability to do the job.

Sorry, forgot to link!
School teacher who posted pictures of her having sex is struck off

so it wasn’t just working as an escort

it was being stupid and actively promoting it

Doggymummar · 17/07/2024 17:54

Is there a link?

InvestinITMN · 17/07/2024 17:56

Primary school teacher, 30, who 'worked openly' as a £1,600-a-night escort and posted pictures of her and her partner having sex on a 'swingers' site' is struck off

so she well and truly took it out of “private life” and made it public

RosaMoline · 17/07/2024 17:56

For some reason, I can’t get the bloody link to work!
can anyone help please? Thank you.

the devil is in the detail
which you choose to omit in your op

RosaMoline · 17/07/2024 17:59

Thank you!!

'The panel did not consider that Ms Barguss had demonstrated any appreciation of how her actions could have impacted upon the pupils that she taught and appeared to have a fundamental lack of understanding that what she portrays online attaches to her as a teacher and the teaching profession generally.
'The panel further considered that Ms Barguss had sought to minimise the misconduct throughout her explanations and had sought to criticise the handling of the incident rather than accepting any wrongdoing herself.'

indeed

I want to know that if she was earning that sort of money, why was she bothering about her day job teaching!

i suspect she didn’t get much business

I pressed UANBU before realising it was actual pics of sex on a swinger site - urgh! Different from being an escort.

There is that!

She broke her contract - so yes, firing her is fair enough. It doesn't matter really if you think the contract is right or wrong, the fact is, it is her contract.

Agreed. She was extremely foolish not to mask her indentity.

I haven't voted because there is a middle ground.

What she does in her private life is her business as long as she doesn't bring her profession or her school in to disrepute. It wouldn't be great if a 14yo pupil started taking money for sexual favours because it must be ok, as Miss does it.

So if she had carefully disguised her identity and worked away from home turf, she would probably not have had this problem.

As for someone disliking her enough to dob her in, half the US is Bible Belt and weird religious judgement is a way of life to that lot.

FinalCeleryScheme · 17/07/2024 18:16

The only thing I care about in this report is the use of “struck off”. It may be literally true, but it really should only be used for doctors (lawyers are ‘disbarred’).

Teaching is not really a meaningful profession any longer - she should be described as “banned”.

This is exactly my thoughts.

Seems like a no brainer. Sex work and teaching mix like oil and water. Not sure who would see it differently.

GingerStepchild · 17/07/2024 18:35

Wonder how many of the school dads were shelling out £220 for an hour with Miss.

It was probably one of them who shopped her.

I think it's time to stop using "sex work" to describe prostitution.

Yougotwhatstuckwhere · 17/07/2024 18:39

Yeah, that's not a good idea for a teacher to publicise her sexual extra curricular activities. Not sure what she was expecting.
I'm quite surprised Gypsy Rose Blanchards husband (ex?) got to continue in his teaching job if the US is so strict (someone above mentioned no alcoholic drink pics as an example)

Feelsodrained · 17/07/2024 18:41

Just from a common sense instinctive point of view, no, I don’t think we can have primary school teachers openly making porn videos and working as escorts. That doesn’t mean I hate all sex workers or anything but if you work in that industry and want a “normal” job as well, teaching probably isn’t it.

JurassicClark · 17/07/2024 18:43

I’m not sure there is any way prostitution is ok for a teacher. Of course she got fired.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 17/07/2024 18:49

There is no "middle ground". What she did flies in the face of Safer Recruitment because she has proved she has no boundaries. Of course she should be fired and barred.

These officials also need to be investigated. From the Mail link:

"Safeguarding officials initially said the concerns were not in their investigative remit."
