The house behind us has been vacant for about 18 months. We got notification that it had been sold and planning permission had been given for a massive extension which will bring a 2 storey extension to within a few meters of our rear fence.

We put in every complaint and objection that we could but to no avail.

Their bedroom window will look directly into our full length patio door living area and give full view of our garden.

AIBU to behave so badly and encourage our children and pets to do the same that the builders will tell them we are crazy and they should rethink the position of their window !

Some early ideas - develop loud vocal tics when in the garden, some exhibitionism at the windows. Children to repeatedly kick balls over fence. Hang weird satanic Blair witch effigies from the tree and possibly some stuffed animals with fake blood.

Any other suggestions ? They have a small child apparently!

It won't work op. Sorry.

Adviceneeeeded · 02/07/2024 19:40

You can buy those things to go on your glass which means you can see out and don't lose light but they can't see in. I can't remember what they are called

Adviceneeeeded · 02/07/2024 19:42

Privacy film!

IncompleteSenten · 02/07/2024 19:43

I'd get a tall screen or trellis or something and grow something up it or mirrored film on my windows or plant leylandi to block their window view before I'd make myself look like a lunatic.

PossumintheHouse · 02/07/2024 19:45

Oh yeah, totes do it. Sounds like a stellar plan. So what are the pets going to do then??

thistimelastweek · 02/07/2024 19:45

We were in a similar position.

The new neighbours haven't impacted on our lives at all.

Hatty65 · 02/07/2024 19:46

It's up to you entirely, but it sounds utterly exhausting to me.

And most builders will simply ignore your shit or not notice it - rather than suggesting a re-drawing of the architects plans. The builders don't have to live next to you, so don't care if you are nutters.

TinySaltLick · 02/07/2024 19:46

Buy 140 cockerals

Bringitonnowibeg · 02/07/2024 19:47

wasting your time
what are you trying to achieve 🫣 do you think they'll stop the extension 😬

ASBONEIGHBOURS · 02/07/2024 19:48

Sadly any screening will block out the small but of sunlight we get in the mornings.

Can you train cats to poop in someone's garden ??

LoveWine123 · 02/07/2024 19:48

Sure, do it…you will be providing so much entertainment for the builders 😅

Longdueachange · 02/07/2024 19:48

Our neighbours objected to an overlooking window and won. Can you do similar?

TinySaltLick · 02/07/2024 19:49

You could ask them to paint a mural of a smaller extension on the side facing you

Yes! You can also train dogs to use the cymbals.

fluffi · 02/07/2024 19:49

Am I missing something?I used to be able to see clearly into all the side and rear neighbours gardens and houses from upstairs windows in a normal terraced house.

Isn’t this normal unless you live in a detached with loads of surrounding land?

ASBONEIGHBOURS · 02/07/2024 19:51

Don't care about the extension - they have the option of putting the upper floor window facing sideways instead of over our garden.

"Yes! You can also train dogs to use the cymbals."

😂😂😂

SixFifteens · 02/07/2024 19:52

How many times a day do you think they will be standing at their bedroom window looking in your direction though?
I might look out when I open and close my curtains, but the rest of the time I’m never at the bedroom window.
I doubt they will affect your privacy as much as you think.

Actual lol

GuinnessBird · 02/07/2024 19:54

I can see directly into my neighbours garden, the only time I do is when opening and closing the curtains.

It's not a big deal.

Most people don't stare out of an upstairs window. Quick glance and move on.

And even if they did stare? What would they see? People in a garden. Big deal.

PadstowGirl · 02/07/2024 19:57

Start a carpentry business from home, like my neighbour 😞

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/07/2024 19:58

"Learn" (I use the term loosely) the bagpipes...

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 02/07/2024 19:58

Talk to them. Be, you know, reasonable. They might be reasonable back.

This. We can see into our neighbours’ gardens. They can see into ours. That’s why we don’t sunbathe naked or have sex out there!!!
