Friend poked my hip and said ‘beep beep’

I was standing in a bar wearing a nice pair of trousers with a top and talking to a friend when she suddenly poked the side of my hip twice (my flesh was exposed as my top had ridden up ever so slightly) and said ‘beep beep’. I think it was meant as a sly dig about my hip fat/exposed flesh but AIBU? It made me feel very self conscious and a bit violated. Bit maybe I overreacted?

Sounds like she was just letting you know your top had ridden up!

Hermittrismegistus · 16/06/2024 02:25

I could not be arsed to be bothered over that.

It took longer to write your message than to be upset

Your definitely over reacting, hope you enjoyed your night

Catnipcupcakes · 16/06/2024 02:40

What does ‘beep beep’ mean?

Newnamehiwhodis · 16/06/2024 02:44

That just sounds playful to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thepossibility · 16/06/2024 05:08

I also think she was being playful, she didn't say blub blub.

Covetthee · 16/06/2024 05:15

Not something i would get worked up tbh, sounds playful.

i’m sure someone will come along and tell
you she is a shit friend and is obviously ‘jealous’ and you need to ditch her or something

Butchyrestingface · 16/06/2024 05:29

Unless ‘beep, beep’ is friend code for ‘pull your top down, you flesh-exposing, heathen slut’, I’d say you are BU.

PeachMartini · 16/06/2024 05:30

Was she trying to get past you? I’ve said beep beep before and sort of moved my friends hips as I wanted to get by. It’s meant to be harmless.

fiddlesticksohyeah · 16/06/2024 05:42

Beep beep means a warning (like when a van reverses) so I'd see it as her warning you that you're top had gone up and exposed flesh.

You can be irritated but anything else is projecting

shearwater2 · 16/06/2024 07:56

I think it's playful.

What did annoy me though was when I out with a group of women, most of whom I barely knew, someone hung onto my tshirt underneath when I removed a layer. I really don't care if I expose an inch of belly to the room, you don't need to preserve my modesty!

MartyFunkhouser · 16/06/2024 07:59

Violated? Really?

She was just being playful.

Justcallmebebes · 16/06/2024 08:11

Violated Grin

Roseyjane · 16/06/2024 08:12

Violated? Seriously?

maudelovesharold · 16/06/2024 08:21

I would have taken ‘beep beep’ as a friendly warning that you had some flesh exposed when you might not realise. And I would have been really grateful if someone thought to hold my shirt down to stop it riding up when I was taking a jumper off!

UtterlyOtterly · 16/06/2024 08:22

You honestly felt violated?

Gently OP, you need to work on your resilience. I would not have given it a moment's thought.

Maytorain · 16/06/2024 08:25

I say beep beep all the time to my young children, as a way to say, excuse me I’m coming through. (Like a car would beep)

WonderingWanda · 16/06/2024 08:26

Surely beep beep means move over or move out the way? Not sure how you've extrapolated that she was fat shaming you from that unless you were already feeling quite self conscious in the outfit.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 16/06/2024 08:26

Not sure the OP will be back

BitOutOfPractice · 16/06/2024 08:27

Bit maybe I overreacted?

How did you react?

Luxell934 · 16/06/2024 08:28

🤣🤣🤣

Was trying to get past you?

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2024 08:29

Violated? God help you in getting through life.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/06/2024 08:30

Are you sure it was your friend who said 'beep, beep' could it have been a release of pressure from your bottom when prodded?

TheRealSlimShandy · 16/06/2024 08:30

She was either

  1. trying to get past you
  2. alerting you to the fact that your top had ridden up

I don’t see why either of those are a reason to be offended.
