Help with "strawberry legs" please.....

Whenever the weather gets warmer I return to this same problem, I don't want to have my legs out because they are awful with whats known as strawberry legs - it's hard to describe if you haven't heard of it, it's like the root of every hair on my legs is a little red dot, even when there is no hair there!

I've tried shaving/not shaving, moisturising, epalating, scrubbing, goodness knows how many creams and lotions - nothing helps! In fact, if anything I'd say they get worse! Has anyone got any miracle tips for me? I even tried fake tan to see if that would hide it but it just made the dots even more pronounced really....

So AIBU to think there is no way to fix this, and I'll just have to keep covered up all summer? Any tips appreciated - thank you!

I have this, literally thought it was normal lol 😆 nobody has ever noticed

stressedespresso · 10/06/2024 17:11

Keratosis pilaris - Ameliorate cream is the miracle product made specifically to treat this. Thank me later!!

BehemothWatermelon · 10/06/2024 17:39

Most people have this, it doesn't matter at all, people barely notice. I have it and always wear shorts, dresses, etc, nothing bad has ever happened. I'd just live your life and try not to worry.

CleanShirt · 10/06/2024 17:40

Have you tried the Korean washcloths? I was recommended them on here and they're amazing.

soupfiend · 10/06/2024 17:42

Isnt that just skin?

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 10/06/2024 19:20

I've got KP on arms and legs. I'm trying Inkey Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Body Stick so fingers crossed!

MotelCalifornia · 10/06/2024 19:33

I second Ameliorate, it has transformed my KP/strawberry skin which I'd been self conscious of since childhood. Cerave smoothing lotion is also brilliant.

As others have said, the Korean washcloths are excellent for exfoliating, particularly in conjunction the Cerave smoothing body wash.

I have also been using the new Inkey List glycolic acid body stick for days when I can't be bothered slathering myself in cream, it is so quick and easy to use.

With strawberry skin/KP you really do have to persevere and stay on top of your routine, particularly if it's quite severe like mine. But it does pay off and once you start seeing results it's worth the time and cost.

foodtoorder · 10/06/2024 20:02

Second the glycolic acid stick from the inkey list.

Don’t use shower gel when shaving, just water and the gel pad on the razor.

Youdontevengohere · 10/06/2024 20:05

I third Ameliorate cream. You have to use it twice a day for a month but it works wonders.

Thingamebobwotsit · 10/06/2024 20:11

I found epilating and home IPL seem to have reduced it substantially. Might be worth considering. I also shave/wax a lot less than previously

thanks, just looked this up on your recommendation and have ordered!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I’ve had this for as long as I can remember. I have no idea if it is actually KP. I have very pale skin, sometimes translucent enough to see the next hair getting ready in the follicle.
Makes fake tan an arse though.
Sounds like a lot of people have it from the start of hair removal.

zaxxon · 10/06/2024 20:27

Ameliorate really worked for me, although not instantly. You have to stick with it. Great stuff though.

stayathomer · 10/06/2024 20:29

I have it too, always thought people would stare. People do not take any notice!

RefusingToPlayYourGames · 10/06/2024 20:29

Would fake tan help to hide it?

ADHDHDHDHD · 10/06/2024 20:50

Long term- laser hair removal.
Short term- a leg moisturiser that soaks in just the right amount, then foam fake tan blended over (a mitt on each hand).

Namechanger789 · 10/06/2024 23:26

The Ameliorate cream smells sooooo bad. I couldn't handle it. Genuinely prefer to stick with my KP legs!

Having googled this, no it's not just skin. But I also don't think it's necessary that noticeable.

I’m really sensitive to smells and have honestly never been bothered at all by it - at worst it smells a bit like fake tan. A bad batch maybe?

seensome · 10/06/2024 23:33

I have it and nothing worked, Ameliorate didn't work and the smell is awful, only body scrub, shaving and fake tan makes it look a bit better.

Richelieu · 10/06/2024 23:36

Another Ameliorate user here. It really does work. Also, dry brushing. I do that every morning before showering, brush lightly but firmly with a bristle brush over my legs in short strokes, working in an upwards direction (towards the heart). You can take as much time as you like but a couple of minutes is fine for me usually. Then shower, apply Ameliorate, job done.

My skin's really smooth now - but noticeably much better since I started the brushing as well.

Chimpandcheese · 10/06/2024 23:37

I developed that as a teenager but since I went through the menopause is it has gone away. It used to make my skin feel quite rough but now it’s smooth. I’m guessing it’s down to hormones. Two of my three kids (girl and boy) have got it too. I think it’s called folliculitis, but really I don’t think there’s much you can do. I tried all sorts. Just get your shorts on and try to forget about it. I think a tan does help disguise it a bit but carefully does it!

This summer you're very likely to get bluey-purple beef mince legs and frost-bitten toes if you remove your long johns.

devuskums · 10/06/2024 23:49

Honestly just get your legs out and enjoy the sun. I am massively over weight and I am sure people have an opinion on me but I am trying not to care. We are all just humans trying to make our way through life.
