Help with "strawberry legs" please.....

Whenever the weather gets warmer I return to this same problem, I don't want to have my legs out because they are awful with whats known as strawberry legs - it's hard to describe if you haven't heard of it, it's like the root of every hair on my legs is a little red dot, even when there is no hair there!

I've tried shaving/not shaving, moisturising, epalating, scrubbing, goodness knows how many creams and lotions - nothing helps! In fact, if anything I'd say they get worse! Has anyone got any miracle tips for me? I even tried fake tan to see if that would hide it but it just made the dots even more pronounced really....

So AIBU to think there is no way to fix this, and I'll just have to keep covered up all summer? Any tips appreciated - thank you!

Ah, doythat what's it called
Never had it myself but used to see girls in school with red dotty legs back in the day and wonder what it was.

Way to make women with KP feel good about themselves 🙄

Wow thanks so much everyone! Firstly, I didn't realise how many of us seem to have the same thing! I'll look up all your suggestions but yes, shall just get my bloomin' legs out regardless, thanks gang xx

Has anyone used both Ameliorate and the Cerave SA Smoothing cream? If so which works better?

My DD has KP and we are using the Cerave which helps but wondered if we should swap. She is quite sensitive to smell though…

poppym12 · 11/06/2024 13:13

I use ameliorate. I switched briefly to cera ve as I don't like the smell but switched back and put up with the smell as ameliorate works better on my skin. I did try the 'fragrance free' version of ameliorate and it smelt even worse to me.

BusterGonad · 11/06/2024 13:14

I used to have this on my arms and legs, but no longer do, I don't know if I just grew out of it or something else. I only use soap when I bathe, and I always moisturise after (usually with baby lotion) I use soap instead of shaving gel.

I use both and I think Ameliorate is slightly more effective for me, but Cerave is also very good. I find that although thicker, Cerave is more easily blended and absorbed into the skin. So prons and cons Smile

Yes. I Amazon primed it yesterday so it’s just arrived. Can’t wait to try it out

This is so easy to treat once you find the right product - I've found the Palmers Retexture Renew great but make sure that you stay out of the sun after using it.

I had it in my legs when I was younger as my leg hair was very coarse. (Not KP). I got laser hair removal and any hair left is way softer now. No more red spots.

Will be looking into Ameliorate for my daughters KP.

HAF1119 · 12/06/2024 07:32

This is totally how advertising should work 🤣 I've just ordered Ameliorate cream to try also! Least we can all say how our results go!

Youdontevengohere · 12/06/2024 08:01

You do have to keep it up with Ameliorate, they recommend twice a day for a month. It really does work wonders though!

SoManyBadgers · 12/06/2024 08:03

Ameliorate didn't work for me, CeraVe however is amazing. I just wish it was cheaper!

Sunshine also is the best thing for KP. Steer clear of harsh scrubs; I use exfoliating mits and a body brush.

ItsMintUpNorth · 12/06/2024 08:47

I must be the only one who loves the smell of ameliorate Grin

NealBrose · 12/06/2024 09:11

It's normal and sits firmly in the not worth worrying about pile.

70% of teens have it as do 40% of adults.

SoManyBadgers · 12/06/2024 10:27

@NealBrose I had strawberry legs and kp as a teen and it bothered me enormously; I felt ugly and unlike the other girls. I would have loved it if my parents had bothered to research something that might have helped it look better.

NealBrose · 12/06/2024 13:21

I can understand that @SoManyBadgers I also had it, and it bothered me (as did spots on my face, too big teeth, lack of boobage etc, etc) It might have bothered me less if I'd known that it was something that most people have rather than a 'defect'.

It's improved as I have got older but the thing that's helped the most is caring less. Men also have KP and don't seem to spend time/money on it. It feels like another thing that we're supposed to 'fix' to become acceptable.
