Do you paint your house yourself

Just following on from another thread where I was disappointed in my painting skills! Just wondering if people paint their own houses or pay someone to do it. Tbh if I had the money I would pay someone! They would have to be good though. When I moved into this house someone had done a really terrible job on the painting. The paint on the bannisters was literally peeling off when you touched it as they obvs hadn't prepped - they'd just painted over old peeling paint. It's v expensive to get someone to do it though. Are you any good at painting. I'm better than I was but am not amazing

Yes – but only because I can't afford to hire anyone.

Also, my walls are awful and I'd rather save for eventually re-skimming/replastering. So I wouldn't pay anyone to paint now.

I'm pretty rubbish, and envious of all the skills on this thread! Any YouTube recommendations?

I have in the past, and wallpapered. I pay now, especially as I'm no longer happy about teetering on the top of ladders!

Do our own. Can’t afford to pay 10k for a professional. Not perfect but it does the job. It’s been almost 11 years and still looks good. I’m bored of it however 😩

the bannister needs to be done as it’s peeled, not sure how to do that. Would love to replace it with something more modern

We generally do the upstairs ourselves but our downstairs has ridiculously high ceilings and we pay someone to paint downstairs, hallway and stairs.

We can afford to get someone in but prefer doing it ourselves. We both enjoy it and are satisfactorily good at it.

Yup I do it myself, never bother with tape and only bother with dust sheets if olim using a roller. I'm well practiced as my autistic son regularly smears things on my walls or has a violent meltdown and does damage. Once ex helped me do some and he dropped paint all over my carpet! Completely clueless but very successful in his field of work. Not everyone has the skill.

Yes, and it saves a fortune!
I do a pretty decent job and DH does a perfect job. If he does it, it is flawless.

The previous occupant of our house did a terrible job - like painting around a TV - so it's very satisfying to get each room looking so much better.

Yes - but BIL is a painter & decorator and there is a massive difference especially in the glossing - glad they live 400 miles away
