Can I wear trainers on a first date?!

So I’ve got a first date this evening, we’re only meeting for a drink in a local village pub/restaurant, It’s quite a nice one.
I haven’t been on a first date in a long time!
I don’t want to wear heels as I’m already tall at 5ft8,
so I was going to go for a floral mini/summer skirt and my nice trainers that are a similar colour with a long sleeve top to match…too casual??

I know people wear trainers for everything now but I’m starting to panic!!

Wear trainers. Be comfortable and have a nice night.

TigerJoy · 29/05/2024 15:57

Trainers are absolutely fine

Bobbieiris · 29/05/2024 15:58

Yes definitely wear the trainers, they’re comfy and more in fashion than heels now anyway ( non of my younger colleagues at work ever wear heels on nights out!!) . I wore trainers on my first date with my boyfriend a few years back 😊 good luck with the date!

Bubblegum922 · 29/05/2024 15:58

Of course. Have a lovely time

Lilacwall · 29/05/2024 15:59

If he wants you to dress up in heels he can take you somewhere smart for date 2

Didimum · 29/05/2024 16:04

Trainers or sandals.

My adult dds wear trainers with skirts and dresses.

BeaRF75 · 29/05/2024 16:07

Yes, of course. (Aren't heels a bit "out" now, anyway?).

Itsallsostressful · 29/05/2024 16:09

Itsallsostressful · 29/05/2024 16:09

Should say Hell to the yeah 😂

KreedKafer · 29/05/2024 16:28

Totally appropriate for a date in nice village pub!

Hope you have a lovely evening.

Permanentlydazed · 29/05/2024 16:42

I'm too old to have a clue but DD wears dresses and trainers a lot. I think it looks good, far better than heels. Have a lovely date OP.

I wore walking boots for my first date with now DH, but that is because it was a "Would you like to climb a mountain at the weekend?" sort of date 😁

TheKeatingFive · 29/05/2024 17:50

Of course

PrincessOlga · 29/05/2024 18:05

Definitely wear trainers. Heels look too forced and "try hard" in my opinion.

As long as they are a nice pair (especially white or just a bright fun colour) I actually think they look BETTER (with almost anything) than heels.

LeggyLinda · 29/05/2024 18:21

Wear trainers and anything else that makes you feel comfortable and “you”.

Honestly, although men get a bad rap, in general they will remember you not your clothes (unless you dress as a stripper lol).

I bet you could dress in jeans, t-shirt and trainers and then ask the next day “what did you think of my dress and heels” you’d get the same response either way.

Despite what you may have heard, people remember the person not the clothes. Just be yourself and enjoy.

After writing that I am aware that I have assumed your date is with a man. Sorry if that’s not the case. But I think the same applies.

Permanentlydazed · 29/05/2024 19:06

Thanks all! Have gone for the trainers.
I think it’s going to be a disaster anyway, he’s pushed the date back half an hour later as he’s running late!

We needs updates then OP !!!!

Permanentlydazed · 30/05/2024 05:08

Update on the date for you @Itsallsostressful
He was ok, quite boring and pretty much spent 2 hours talking about his ex wife, money and his divorce settlement.
We had dinner, which I wasn’t expecting! I don’t think we will be seeing each other again.

Ah sorry to hear about the date op. Definitely sounds like one to avoid! You’d really think anyone with a brain would know not to talk about their exes on first dates!

Glad your feet were comfy!

garlictwist · 30/05/2024 05:25

I would wear trainers on a first date and every date thereafter. I wear trainers to the office, I'm getting married in trainers. I don't think heels are an expected thing in 2024.

whyamisotiredallthetime · 30/05/2024 06:02

Sorry to hear that @Permanentlydazed
Imagine how much more painful that would have been in uncomfortable shoes!
