Worst Disney Villain

For thinking Frollo is the absolute worst Disney villain...ever.

Had this silly chat with a fellow Disney nerd friend, she said Scar.

Frollo killed a mother holding her baby, he thought about throwing the baby down a well for being disabled, he brainwashed and gaslit Quasimodo, watched him being abused in public, sexually harassed Esmeralda after trapping her in church, burned down houses and arrested civilians, tried to burn a woman alive because she didn't fancy him back, tried to stab Quasimodo in the back.

Definitely Frollo. And Hellfire is by far the darkest Disney song imo

BettyUnderswoob · 29/05/2024 13:32

Frollo is pure evil. I came on to the thread to mention him before reading your post!
Hunchback is one of the darkest Disney films.

Absolutely. "Choose me or you will burn"

Frollo is the scariest one as he's the most realistic. Men have been sexually assaulting women and committing genocide in the name of religion for centuries.

Definitely. Still one of my all time favourites though.

I think that's the only one I haven't properly watched. He really is the worst. Scar is pretty villainous though but the British accent makes him seem like a cad. I know he's awful. Don't @me 😉

As an aside, I love Ursula. I can't wait to watch her origin story ☺️

Yes, Scar is probably a close second, trying to kill his nephew and actually killing his brother.

How funny! I love Ursula too, she's hilarious to me for some reason. I like Madam Mim and Hades too.

@Bingbangboom1 oh yes I forgot about Hades! He’s hilarious! 😂

KreedKafer · 29/05/2024 14:02

I haven't seen the Disney version, but I did read the book many years ago and vividly remember Frollo being an absolute horror in that. Properly vile.

It's a really odd choice to adapt into a Disney cartoon. It's a gothic horror story and all the themes in it are really, really dark. The book is pretty much non-stop torture, murder, corruption, religious mania, child abuse, executions and rape. And (spoiler alert) there is very much NOT a happy ending.

CountingCrones · 29/05/2024 14:09

Hades is fun, Doctor Facilier (Princess And The Frog) is even more fun (great song, scary voodoo) and Yzma (The Emperor’s New Groove) is the best of them all (“why do we even have that lever?”)

Rollo is terrifying because he’s believably evil, the evil that men have done to the weak and powerless for centuries. He’s more scary to me as an adult than when I was a child and monsters frightened me.

The circus master in Dumbo is the worst. That cruelty. Reuniting them once Dumbo becomes an earner doesn’t make up for the horribleness of the rest of the film. The uncaring cruelty for no gain is awful.

Scar is a murderous bastard but at least he has a goal. Apex predators are going to kill. Can’t blame a lion for being a lion. (See also tiger and Shere Khan)

Bingbangboom1 · 29/05/2024 14:16

@CountingCrones

That bastard circus man, the Dumbo scene where his mum is in a cage and she cradles him in her trunk is the saddest thing ever, up there with Mufasa's death.

Bugger Musafa, it’s up there with the opening segment of Up!

I didn’t cry for Musafa, but I’m not really keen on The Lion King. Jessie’s Song and Up, however… 😭😭😭

The hunter who shoots Bambi's mum

SwedeCarrotLimes · 29/05/2024 15:14

Hans from Frozen. Had Anna been the eldest sibling she would have been oblivious to the fact she was married to an evil pyshco that only married her for her kingdom.

Ursula origin story? Yes please - as long as they don't re-cast Melissa McCarthy 😖

Bingbangboom1 · 29/05/2024 15:50

eew just remembered how creepy and pervy Gaston and Jafar were too.

YANBU OP !!!! Frollo is the absolute worst and I feel the most historically accurate of all the Disney films.

As a side note and I’m sorry if this derails ever so, but I’d heard they were going to do a live action hunchback…. I’m not a fan of the live actions and don’t go out of my way to watch them but this one I feel I could get on board with…. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

That would be slightly weird considering that by the time Lon Chaney filmed it in 1923 (Universal's most successful silent movie) it had already been filmed six times. Then there was Charles Laughton's famous 1939 version. Disney were very late on the act!

I absolutely hate that twist: he was a great character up until that point. I wish they'd done an Enchanted and made them both realise that they were naive/latched onto the first person they met etc.

LittleMissSleepyUK · 01/06/2024 05:54

Gaston. Trying to make out Maurice was mad and then taking everyone on a witch hunt when he discovered he wasn’t

I haven’t seen Hunchback though

Geesejuggler · 01/06/2024 05:56

Frollo is the worst villain hands down. I once left a job because one of my colleagues was so like Frollo the hair on the back of my neck stood on end every time I dealt with him which thankfully wasn't often. I swear he burned me at the stake in a previous life.

As an adult you can absolutely see how dark so much of Disney is, only really humanised and lightened a bit once Pixar came on board (and only a bit).

Maleficent.

Wasn't invited to your party so she decided to kill your first-born. Oh, but she doesn't do it now, she tells you you're cursed so you spend your whole life worrying.

And that bit in the Fox and the Hound where she leaves him in the woods.

Have you seen the Maleficent films with Angelina Jolie? They put a great spin on it all.
