Worst Disney Villain

For thinking Frollo is the absolute worst Disney villain...ever.

Had this silly chat with a fellow Disney nerd friend, she said Scar.

Frollo killed a mother holding her baby, he thought about throwing the baby down a well for being disabled, he brainwashed and gaslit Quasimodo, watched him being abused in public, sexually harassed Esmeralda after trapping her in church, burned down houses and arrested civilians, tried to burn a woman alive because she didn't fancy him back, tried to stab Quasimodo in the back.

Jafar in Aladdin terrifies me

And that bit in the Fox and the Hound where she leaves him in the woods.

Oh come now, I can't see that as evil. The old woman thought she was doing her domesticated wild animal a favour (or at least removing him from danger) by taking him back to the place he was meant to have been in all along. She was sad to do it, she wasn't evil.

‘Oh come now’ read the quote history properly. I was responding to ‘sad moments’ (example given of Dumbo visiting his mum in the cage). Not worst villain.

Have you seen the Maleficent films with Angelina Jolie? They put a great spin on it all.

Yeah, I do really enjoy them, but much as I enjoy the spin, giving too much backstory and justification to a villain can sometimes be detrimental to the character.

Why can't villains just be evil? Palpatine in Star Wars was just evil. Hannibal was just evil (until they tried to pseudo-justify it in the prequel by saying he was fed his own sister).

i find Mother Gothel in Tangled very scary. All those years of gaslighting Rapunzel. Although she’s did make a mistake telling Rapunzel her actual birthday when she could see the lights from her window on that day every year.

I would agree that Frollo is deranged and genuinely scary as he uses the weight of the law to persecute people.

That said, the more subversive, cruel and evil Mother Gothel is probably worst as she undermines Rapunzel's entire self esteem again and again (to say nothing of abducting, using her for her gift and as a useful slave to keep her house clean) and gaslights her throughout. My narc mother was well represented so I think she's the worst simply for being so true to life.

As a kid Jafar was my favorite, he’s so sarcastic and composed but then as soon as he gets the lamp he just goes batshit crazy

however as an adult him perving on Jasmine who’s 15 is … yock.

I always vote for Scar being the worst or at least one of the worse in these conversations because it’s not just that he killed his brother and ordered a hit on his nephew
it’s the way he mentally tortured Simba - when he found him crying beside his beloved fathers dead body he could’ve just snapped his neck and ended it right there. No one would’ve known, they would’ve just assumed he was killed in the stampede.
But no , Scar went one step further and took this devastated crying child , who adored him as an uncle by the way, and told him everything was his fault and his mother would hate him and THEN ordered the hyenas to tear him apart!
Trapping Simba in a horrifying stampede and making him run for his life before murdering his father wasn’t enough , he wanted him to do it again this time knowing no one would save him and he had no home to even go back to !!
Thinking about it more he could’ve just snapped Simbas neck in the gorge and then set off the stampede but he wanted that kid to die in most amount of pain possible- both mentally and physically. A little kid who loved him and trusted him.

I found Mother Gothel horrifying. Very realistic.

The Dumbo rocking to sleep scene reduces me to floods of tears every time.

Yes, and then there’s Wicked! The witch in the Wizard of Oz is a fantastic villain. I like the Musical but wish they’s just made it a new story instead of plundering OZ for a storyline and audience

UGH I hate the Hannibal prequel, sometimes things are better with a bit of mystique.

Also would like to submit Gaston as a villain who is awful because he’s realistic. Misogynist who doesn’t get his own way, gets Belle’s dad taken to an asylum, whips up the villagers into a murderous frenzy then tries to kill the Beast
