To think those BRIDGERTON boys are probably

Riddled with syphilis and god knows what else??? And the women should be giving them ALL a wide berth…
Watched the latest 3 eps where Penelope is trying to find a husband but in love with Colin BRIDGERTON who seems to spend a lot of time with sex workers. As do/ have his brothers! Not to mention he has spend months shagging his way around Europe.

She’d be better off finding someone a little less ‘experienced’ given the lack of STI treatments back then…

I'm not sure it's meant to be realistic...

Love the brothers, especially Benedict 😄

Wewelcomeyourfeedback · 22/05/2024 14:17

Benedict’s the worst, and his older… I’m sure he’s had it all…

Oh definitely, he'd have shagged himself to an early grave if this was real life! Thank goodness it isn't 😄

SandysMam · 22/05/2024 14:24

Hahaha I always think this when I watch a historical drama. First degree knob rot!
It really ruins all the hunks for me. I also think about how smelly their breath must be with no proper dental care.

This really made me laugh Op, thank you, much needed today ☺️

Wewelcomeyourfeedback · 22/05/2024 14:27

Knob rot, Bleurgh 🤢

It’s all so Mills and Boon - the 30’something experienced man and the ‘innocent’ 21 year old…
can't imagine being with someone so much older .

Not a Bridgerton fan but guessing by the costumes it's vaguely Georgian? If so, then yes, syphilis very likely. Hogarth includes syphilis lesions in some of his paintings and cartoons.

KreedKafer · 22/05/2024 18:21

Probably, but realistically this would apply to most of Jane Austen’s characters too.

WelshNerd · 22/05/2024 18:37

Its not historical. It's set in a parallel time line where they have cured STDs and racism.

Sapphire387 · 22/05/2024 18:38

I agree, it's gross. I thought Colin was going to be sweet but turns out he's just as awful as the others.

😂😂😂

And halitosis.

Halfheadhighlights · 22/05/2024 18:42

I’ve been watching it, I’m confused I thought Benedict was gay?

Nonsense, they are all virgins! Blush and stammer and so on.

Have you read Longbourn? (Pride and Prejudice from the servants’ point of view.) A bit more honest - missing teeth, pig shit to be shovelled, bad breath, premarital sex. And an excellent book.

True! I’m not sure they’ll be any begetting of heirs - the men will all be left infertile from the fancy escorts they’re shagging.

I feel slightly ashamed that I can say he isn't gay in the books. But I guess they could change who he ends up with.

Wewelcomeyourfeedback · 25/05/2024 21:05

He’s gone through a lot of prostitutes for someone coded as gay!

Didimum · 25/05/2024 21:09

Condoms were available and used for those using sex workers in the regency period, so no need to fret about dear little Colin.

I have no idea what prompted a reply almost a month and a half later, but here you go:

Noshowlomo · 03/07/2024 16:02

They’re always going down on each other as well, bogging 🤮

Wewelcomeyourfeedback · 03/07/2024 20:12

Aye, famously there was no STDs back then what with the common use of condoms…

Ozanj · 03/07/2024 20:15

The only realistic part is Anthony loving to eat out Kate. Indians bathed at least once a day (often twice) back then so I imagine compared to the other women he’s been with she tastes amazing lol

Dillydollydingdong · 03/07/2024 20:26

I haven't watched the TV series, just reading the books! No mention of sex workers, gayness, shagging or going down on anyone. I would say the TV company has been VERY imaginative and creative with the scripts!

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/07/2024 20:57

Which books were you reading Dillydolly?

There are certainly some references to prostitutes and one night stands with willing young ladies who were definitely NOT members of the 'ton'. Definitely some references to oral sex too. Not found any gayness, but that doesn't surprise me. Absolutely TONS of shagging though!

Yes, in real life they'd all have been riddled, but Bridgerton is not real life and doesn't pretend to even be real historical drama, its Faux Regency comfort TV. Those dresses would barely have been seen in the UK unless you were French and VERY bold. English ladies were still wearing the ridiculous hoopy affairs that meant you couldn't dance, or sit down, or anything really (the only real plus point was a LOT of room in your pockets for all manner of fripperies).

TheKeatingFive · 03/07/2024 21:01

Oh be off with you with the realism. No ones here for that 🤪

I'm a huge Antony fan. Massively warmed to Benedict this season. Colin is a wanker.

Benedict is bi. For sure.
