Riddled with syphilis and god knows what else??? And the women should be giving them ALL a wide berth…
Watched the latest 3 eps where Penelope is trying to find a husband but in love with Colin BRIDGERTON who seems to spend a lot of time with sex workers. As do/ have his brothers! Not to mention he has spend months shagging his way around Europe.

She’d be better off finding someone a little less ‘experienced’ given the lack of STI treatments back then…

I haven't watched the TV series, just reading the books! No mention of sex workers, gayness, shagging or going down on anyone. I would say the TV company has been VERY imaginative and creative with the scripts!

Thank Christ! It’d be turgid otherwise

Yeah, the books are awful. Each has the same sex scene. They are riddled with Americanisms. They needed a good editor, but either didn't get one or the author gained too much say and refused to ge edited. That didn't stop me from reading all of them. I assume that's how Mills and Boon works too.

They are riddled with Americanisms...

I am not sure why that is a surprise given the author is American?

I don't watch Bridgerton but yes, syphilis was a major problem, it appears in cartoons of the time by Hogarth.

I know the author us American, but she was writing about Regency England. I'd expect a writer to try to capture the period and location they'd chosen.

I don’t think she was going for realism, but the tv show is something entirely different again and produced by a US production so…
Still, it’s not any less far fetched than Downton Shabby…
