FUCK FUCKING IKEA

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 11:09

On hold to Ikea and this is just to remind myself never ever to use them again. Last used them five years ago, and somehow the intervening time softened the memory. But never ever ever again. Missing parts. Their website keeps crashing, so I can't request them that way. Having to speak on phone (took ages to get through). Now is going to take them 14 days to send a couple of screws. FOURTEEN DAYS. If they can find them. Which they're not sure they can. This is for their fuck up, obviously. And this is only the first set of cupboards we're putting together. WHY DID I FORGET how eye-bleedingly terrible their customer service is. WHYYYYY.

I went back to the store and they managed to find some screws/hinges in the back shop ....if you're close this may help. They had loads of spare bits. I feel your pain though. My daughter was sent a bed without it's slatted base once.....you had to order it separately 🙄

porridgecake · 22/05/2024 11:18

Are you too far away/is the item too big to take back? I appreciate your frustration if that is the case.
I have only had a missing part once , but I was able to take the item back, customer service desk took it back and gave me a new one. It was just a Kallax unit with inserts and glass doors though.
It is frustrating.

VanilleFraise · 22/05/2024 11:22

This is bringing back awful memories of fitting an IKEA kitchen........

notintheseparts · 22/05/2024 11:24

You must be unlucky, we've probably bought over 20 things from the Swedish emporium over the years and never had any missing parts.
You don't say how far you are from the branch and I don't know if all branches do this but in the Southampton Ikea they have an area near customer service with little bins full of various different types of screws etc that are free to take.
If you're desperate, you could always go to your local DIY shop and find something equivalent, for the sake of a few £.

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 11:31

It's a fifty mile round trip to the nearest store and we're in the middle of moving house and I just can't face it. But I know perfectly well that those screws will be in the nearest store and of course they could send them out. But will they? OF COURSE NOT. Special replacement screws must come from SWEDEN and take FOURTEEN DAYS. Never ever ever again. If I could order through the website, it would be quicker. But does the website work? OF COURSE NOT.

Oh and I'd def go and get a random screw, but we have two of the bloody things, and the missing part is not a standard thing. It's an IKEA thing and infused with the heartbreak of a thousand years.

stronglatte · 22/05/2024 11:43

I literally was about to buy two sofa beds from Ikea and this has reminded me not to be so stupid - you did a good deed here today I hope your karma is rewarded with sanity from customer service

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 11:45

I was just about to put through another big order, @stronglatte - and I have emptied my shopping basket while calling down the wrath of Beelzebub on their customer services team (nb was perfectly polite on the phone, as know it's not the person on the phone's fault that they work for the antichrist).

I'm know it's infuriating but it's like an hours round trip! Just go and get it over with.

Ah, yes, typical, unfortunately that it would be the weird and wonderful bit that is missing.
Sorry, I did have to laugh at it being infused with the heartbreak of a thousand years. 😊
I feel your pain but this would be the same with any large company, they are very process bound and often inflexible, there is no process for manually sending something out from the branch; it's not anyone's job to get an envelope, address it, stick the parts in, pay for postage and take it to the postbox or actually have to go to a post office during their working day - just no way that's going to happen in any large company.

stronglatte · 22/05/2024 11:51

@ayecarumba232 thank you for steering me away from the dark side and to all days John Lewis or whatever the " I can't afford John Lewis but here I am" brand is called . I'm hoping your good humour is rewarded with better news.. sorry they got you

WotsitsQuavers · 22/05/2024 11:52

I received an appalling telephone customer service from IKEA.

theescapeladder · 22/05/2024 11:53

Is the 14 days delivery a new thing?

I often use their spare parts request system and get my bits delivered in 2-3 days.

123dogdog · 22/05/2024 11:56

Website is working for me at the moment. So maybe try again, or on a different device. If I was 25 miles from a store, I’d just nip past, but I’m impatient and love ikea 😂

ive never had a problem with ikea, surprisingly actually due to the amount of ikea stuff we’ve had over the years (probably 300-400+ things that I can remember 😂 at least)

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 11:58

@theescapeladder The fourteen day thing is a special treat for when their website is broken too. So they can pile fuck up on fuck up. I take your point, @notintheseparts but maybe JUST FUCKING MAYBE if a gigantic company so routinely fucks up sending out its own products that it has to have piles of spare parts just lying around their shops (possibly to be used as boomerangs when their customer base finally loses the will to live and storms the ramparts), it might be an idea to have one person whose job it is to send these small pieces of shit out. Given that they obviously have one of these people in sweden who for reasons only known to that one solitary lonely person in sweden takes approximately 12 days to send something out, maybe JUST FUCKING MAYBE they could have one of those people in say swindon too.

I ordered a vanity unit which I needed fairly urgently. It cost £10 to get it delivered.
The sink was smashed.
I contacted them they said they'd send another so five days later that arrives.
The replacement sink was smashed
I contacted them and they said that they no longer have the item in stock so they would refund me but it would take 14 days. Which is fine but they only refunded for the sink itself not for the whole vanity unit which is pretty pointless.
So I had to contact them again to refund for the whole vanity unit which they said they would do but they would have to collect it.
So a week later they collect it and it then takes 14 days to refund.
And to top it all off they won't refund the original £10 delivery change.
So I'm now £10 down and have no vanity unit and I'm still awaiting the refund.

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 12:03

@user09876543 Oh I FEEL YOUR PAIN. I can't even remember the horror last time, but it did feature them trying to charge me for repeated deliveries when it was just to complete the order. At one point, the amount for deliveries was more than the value of the piece of broken shit they had failed to deliver.

50 mile round trip. I get your frustration.

Theunamedcat · 22/05/2024 12:05

Try being on hold to pension credit they are currently giving out half a webpage its irritating me more than I thought possible 35 minutes and counting

Lightfrost · 22/05/2024 12:08

Their website is up now, I've just looked at the order spare parts page and all working. Quick OP before it goes down again!

JuiceBoxJuggler · 22/05/2024 12:12

Wow, mistakes happen. You're angry - take a step back and then take a trip out; they'll probably give you a discount or a voucher if you complain then and there.

MonsteraMama · 22/05/2024 12:13

That's shit OP I'm sorry. Have you tried Facebook for the spare screws? Every time I get something from IKEA I keep all the spare bits they send just in case I need them in future, I'm sure I can't be the only one so maybe someone will be able to come to your rescue?

In fact which bits do you need? I've probably bloody got them in my huge jar of miscellaneous hardware.

frankentall · 22/05/2024 12:14

YANBU I only have anything to do with the cunts due to DP's occasional insistence.

SleepingisanArt · 22/05/2024 12:19

@stronglatte - be warned! John Lewis customer service is not that great. Their delivery company 'lost' my very expensive order - junior customer service person said I needed to wait longer (already 5 working days after delivery date) to see if it would turn up. I said that was unacceptable so was put through to someone more senior who also tried to make me wait! Their manager finally agreed that I'd been patient enough and that it must be lost so they could re-order for me but delivery wouldn't be for another 5 working days! I told them to forget it and refund the order (which took 10 working days to happen) and I haven't bought anything from them since.

@ayecarumba232 - hope everything works out for you. If there was a store near me I'd get the parts for you and post them in a lot less than 14 days as I understand your frustration

LOL, yes, you would think it would be within their abilities to do that that, however, we live in a world ruled by accountants and lawyers so they will have done some hideously complex analysis that cannot be understood my normal humans that says that centralising spare parts sending will be cheaper if it's all done by Sven in Stockholm instead of Sven (or maybe Steve) in Swindon and far less risky (potential GPDR issues, insurance for Steve to walk to the postbox and back not to mention the loss of productivity).
Apols in advance if you are a lawyer or an accountant.
This too shall pass and you'll be posting the same thing again in 5 years time when you're next seduced by the mighty Swedes.
