FUCK FUCKING IKEA

On hold to Ikea and this is just to remind myself never ever to use them again. Last used them five years ago, and somehow the intervening time softened the memory. But never ever ever again. Missing parts. Their website keeps crashing, so I can't request them that way. Having to speak on phone (took ages to get through). Now is going to take them 14 days to send a couple of screws. FOURTEEN DAYS. If they can find them. Which they're not sure they can. This is for their fuck up, obviously. And this is only the first set of cupboards we're putting together. WHY DID I FORGET how eye-bleedingly terrible their customer service is. WHYYYYY.

Can feel your frustration but honestly haven't had poor experience myself. On one occasion we got some items out of the loft for my DS whe he first set up home. We had lost track of some fittings for items bought 10+ years earlier that were no longer stocked. Contacted Ikea online and the parts we were posted from Sweden within a week at no cost. Just brilliant!

SheilaWilde · 22/05/2024 12:55

Could you screenshot the bits you need and put them on here and local FB give/take/cheeky fucker page? I bet someone's got them or they might be going to Ikea soon.

Going to Ikea is like choosing to wear uncomfortable shoes. I still do it though but I don't buy things you have to assemble anymore after the unfortunate hammer through a window incident (Ikea wardrobe).

KrisAkabusi · 22/05/2024 13:21

I've never had IKEA products that are missing a part. In fact I usually have loads left over!

Givemepickles · 22/05/2024 13:27

@ayecarumba232 we've had good luck finding spare IKEA parts on ebay...

SherrieElmer · 22/05/2024 13:37

yes, agreed. Fuck them.

brunettemic · 22/05/2024 13:41

I love Ikea 😂 50 mile round trip isn’t big, fairly standard commute for many.

BrieAndChilli · 22/05/2024 13:48

I've got 43 pieces of ikea furniture in my house at the moment (plus a shit ton of crockery/frames etc etc) and have probably had another 20 pieces of furniture of the years. Never had any bits missing or broken.

BashfulClam · 22/05/2024 13:53

I’ve bought so much stuff and have never had missing bits. Husband is fastidious though before he starts he counts everything several times.

ToxicChristmas · 22/05/2024 13:59

I've been lucky with our odd bits and pieces, but I haven't been for ages now as last time I went I thought it had got really expensive. I know they released a statement about the price of raw materials going up which I totally understand, but it just doesn't offer the same value for money for me anymore and is pointless to go (my closest store is miles away) .

HopefulQn · 22/05/2024 14:04

My closest Ikea is 20 miles and 30 minutes away. Just go to the store and get the missing parts? 🤷‍♂️

tennesseewhiskey1 · 22/05/2024 14:04

i love Ikea :)

ayecarumba232 · 22/05/2024 11:31

It's a fifty mile round trip to the nearest store and we're in the middle of moving house and I just can't face it. But I know perfectly well that those screws will be in the nearest store and of course they could send them out. But will they? OF COURSE NOT. Special replacement screws must come from SWEDEN and take FOURTEEN DAYS. Never ever ever again. If I could order through the website, it would be quicker. But does the website work? OF COURSE NOT.

I understand your frustration - but the reality is Ikea stores aren’t exactly next to the local post office, no member of staff will be able to just stick something in the post.
I had a broken glass shade delivered once which took about 2 hours to sort out. Lots of deep breaths and a big glass of wine needed…
Still love Ikea though!

Username917778 · 22/05/2024 14:10

I messaged them on fb when I had a similar issue and they posted them next day delivery. Then the parts I had requested on the website turned up 3 weeks later, so I've got a spare bit for my bed if ever needed!

stronglatte · 22/05/2024 14:10

@SleepingisanArt Nooo not Johnny Lewis too! Thanks for the warning that sounds like another stressful situation

HighOnMaiden · 22/05/2024 14:14

I'd happily do the 50 mile round trip for a meatball, chips and gravy lunch tbh.

Teenagerantruns · 22/05/2024 14:17

We bought a sofa from IKEA about 3 years ago, came all was good after putting together, 3 weeks later it broke, they sent out a man who said yes fault in sofa, got a new one sent put it together same thing happened, same man came and said yes fault in manufacturing, offered us a 3rd one we said no got a refund and went to dfs. They gave us £40 voucher for the months of stress , we bought a table which arrived with no screws at all..that was the end of IKEA for me

Deekaytwo · 22/05/2024 14:31

I'm having flashbacks to IKEA nightmare during lockdown. I vowed never to buy a single tealight from them again.Angry

Homemadearmy · 22/05/2024 14:49

When you order spare parts it doest ask how old the product is, which is great. However I misplaced 2 bolts for my bed after moving. I downloaded the product info to find the part needed. But it's now put together differently. So I phoned customer services gave the customer service representative all the information. Including order number and date. Wait on hold for ages while he checks the product booklet. Then he says as my bed is out of Warrenty they can't help me.
Anyway I found the parts on ebay, they had the item number on them and they were still available on the ikea spares website. So I then ordered then for free. They did take about a week to arrive

crosspatchdownthehatch · 22/05/2024 14:52

Just in case you’re buying any new furniture after the move - with my Laura Ashley via next bed I got… a little bag with lots of spare screws/fittings in it! Amazing!

HandRaisedSparrow · 22/05/2024 14:57

What parts are you specifically missing? Would they usually be in the spare parts bins at customer services?

Lemonade2011 · 22/05/2024 15:38

I bloody hate ikea I hate the shop I hate going can never find what I want and I get annoyed half way round, despise the place. I don’t mind the stuff but I avoid going and refuse to pay £40 for pigging delivery. Hope you get new screws maybe screwfix has something

VeryQuaintIrene · 22/05/2024 15:44

Ugh - this brings up unhappy memories of last summer when we fitted our kitchen from them. It looks great now, but it was such a hassle - climax being that they just didn't send us an oven because the kitchen advisors were on a different computer system from the distributors and didn't know that it was no longer available and the distributors didn't think to contact the advisors so that we could be informed...good luck, OP!

stronglatte · 25/05/2024 10:08

@VeryQuaintIrene oh my goodness how can they not think that might have been the piece you needed most !!!

lemonmeringueno3 · 25/05/2024 10:25

I was literally about to place an order but have emptied my basket and will look elsewhere. Thanks for the warning. I know they're cheap, and you expect no-frills, but do often that parts are missing or wrong. Anyway - your revenge is that they just lost my order.

SunCreamQueenie · 26/05/2024 00:26

YANBU, but I'm not shocked. I'm still waiting for an extension piece of an extendable table to be collected (since January 2023) and my kitchen (fitting that began on 14.12 23) is not finished.
Absolutely and completely woeful.
