AIBU for traffic mainly, but also AIBU to have been highly suspicious recently of items (bags) at good price but no reviews?

Purchased item, TWO minutes later I had an 'item sent' message. I've reported seller on Vinted itself but it says they can take 24 hours to respond. I've deleted card on account - so they can't still take money can they?

Thanks

Why are you bothered? They may have been online and just marked it as sent when they saw it was purchased.

Ilovegoldies · 21/05/2024 19:43

I wouldn't worry. You will get the money back as you won't be getting an item.
Can you reinstate your account so you can apply for a refund?

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 21/05/2024 19:43

I don't use vinted, what is the scam?

JustBeenScammed · 21/05/2024 19:45

Because the sent message generally gets triggered when the item is scanned and sent by courier etc.

Anyhow, I was right. I sent message saying 'reported' and item immediately removed. Vinted responded really quickly too - all sorted since I posted this.

You will have already paid but you’ll be able to claim later. I’m not sure how a scam might work but if it’s not delivered you’ll get a refund and if it is delivered but not what you ordered you can claim. Just make sure you respond quickly to any emails from vinted as they only give you 2 days to raise an issue after a delivery. I had something similar where I ordered something but just had a feeling it wasn’t right. The item spent ages in transit then said it got returned to sender. I got a refund but I wondered if this is a scam to claim the parcel went missing then the seller can claim for something that never existed anyway.

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 21/05/2024 19:45

Reported them for what?

Cityandmakeup · 21/05/2024 19:46

How is it a scam? I don’t see the scam?

They must be getting around that somehow - as surely unless label is scanned, address is not triggered.

I think they could have somehow triggered the 'delivered' message too. I was right anyway, as item now removed.

You reported someone for marking an item as sent?

Same here, I smelt a fish but really wanted the item. If it's been removed will I automatically be refunded so you think?

Was the item removed because it was sold? Lol I struggle to see the scam... sold an item marked it as sent as do I on eBay as it releases my funds sooner, removed sold item to stop wasting anyone's time ?

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/05/2024 19:50

Some of these listings are fakes rather than outright scams as such. I bought a couple of items of jewellery when drunk and seller also immediately marked the item as sent. Several hours later when sober it clicked that there was obviously something amiss at the prices. I reported to Vinted as fake, they deleted the listing and refunded me - but to my surprise my jewellery actually did show up a few days later. Very good fakes, if fakes all the same.

Do you use Vinted? It works differently from eBay.

How are you communicating with vinted to request a refund if you deleted your account?

and why did you buy something that you thought was suspicious?

It doesn't work like that on Vinted. Item remains visible to purchaser.

I said I deleted card, not account

So why ask here if you will be refunded automatically? Surely you are communicating with vinted?

Have you got nothing better to do than pick at details. It's really not that complicated if you read thread

Buyer Protection is automatically added to each transaction. The buyer doesn't see your payment details, Vinted hold the payment until the item is recieved and the purchaser confirms there are no issues. https://www.vinted.co.uk/help/550-buyer-protection
Really struggling to see what the scam could be

Buyer Protection | Vinted

One community, thousands of brands, and a whole lot of second-hand style. Ready to get started? Here’s how it works.

It was a genuine question but ok 😂 and for what it’s worth you haven’t been scammed you have just been incredibly thick by buying something that you thought was ‘highly suspicious recently of items (bags) at good price but no reviews’

Have fun.

What was the specific message?

My Vinted sales are showing the tracking at the time that I generate the label and ‘shipped’ usually when I drop off.

Some have multiple ‘shipped’ entries (which tend to be when the carrier picks up from the drop of point)

In the conversation view as a seller I see the label generation and the drop off as seperate messages but in purchases I may only see one ‘sent’ but when clicking the full tracking I can see the generation and drop off separately

I’ll mostly generate the label straight away, even if out. That could mean I drop off on the same day or the next day. I’ll play it by ear if I’m away for the weekend, eg if I sell on a Friday but have left for the weekend I’ll probably message the buyer to let them know - I could still generate a label while away to ensure that there aren’t long gaps - Vinteds policy allows 5 working days to send but I don’t like leaving things hanging for a long time

JustaCrabcake · 21/05/2024 21:12

I understand what you mean OP and I buy off vinted regularly. I'd normally expect there to be at least an hour before something was marked as sent, as this is only done when it's physically scanned in at the drop off location!
Pleased Vinted sorted for you, they can be rubbish sometimes.

tommika · 21/05/2024 21:17

PS having just had a sale come up, I’ve just remembered something ……

The notification comes in for the sale and the link to click and create a label.
As there are a number of postage options on sales (of which the seller can opt out of specific ones) I don’t know how it’s going to be sent and with which carrier.

Only when the label is created do I find that out, and in this case it’s a QR code to show on my phone at drop off.
This could affect whether or not I can send something when away, eg if I need to use my printer, can use a label printer at the drop off or just scan a code on drop off - sometimes

In this case it’s a QR code and I can drop off at a locker or shop. I’ve created the code, so only need to wrap when I’m home and can drop off on the way to work in the morning (unless all the cabinets are in use - in which case I would need to get to a drop off shop

northchesterforest · 21/05/2024 21:29

This happened to me, you will have to wait until the item is 'delivered' so you can flag an issue
You only have 48 hours to do this once it comes up
I missed my window and Vinted have been completely useless and I never got my money back
