Just been scammed on Vinted - please help

AIBU for traffic mainly, but also AIBU to have been highly suspicious recently of items (bags) at good price but no reviews?

Purchased item, TWO minutes later I had an 'item sent' message. I've reported seller on Vinted itself but it says they can take 24 hours to respond. I've deleted card on account - so they can't still take money can they?

Thanks

I understand what you mean OP and I buy off vinted regularly. I'd normally expect there to be at least an hour before something was marked as sent, as this is only done when it's physically scanned in at the drop off location!
Pleased Vinted sorted for you, they can be rubbish sometimes.

Thank you. I haven't had a refund yet.

This happened to me, you will have to wait until the item is 'delivered' so you can flag an issue
You only have 48 hours to do this once it comes up
I missed my window and Vinted have been completely useless and I never got my money back

It's been withdrawn so won't be delivered!

PS having just had a sale come up, I’ve just remembered something ……

The notification comes in for the sale and the link to click and create a label.
As there are a number of postage options on sales (of which the seller can opt out of specific ones) I don’t know how it’s going to be sent and with which carrier.

Only when the label is created do I find that out, and in this case it’s a QR code to show on my phone at drop off.
This could affect whether or not I can send something when away, eg if I need to use my printer, can use a label printer at the drop off or just scan a code on drop off - sometimes

In this case it’s a QR code and I can drop off at a locker or shop. I’ve created the code, so only need to wrap when I’m home and can drop off on the way to work in the morning (unless all the cabinets are in use - in which case I would need to get to a drop off shop

I can't check the tracking as the item has been withdrawn now. Thanks though!

This is a known scam.

IIRC (and I don't actually use Vinted but posts from the Vintage sub keep coming up on my Reddit feed!) the seller sends an immediate and faked photo of Royal Mail proof of postage (proof you can't get immediately). Seller actually sends nothing. Not all buyers notice the odd immediacy. A small proportion of buyers also won't notice they're missing something they ordered so don't report in time so seller gets the money.

Edited

That makes sense.

What a sad way to spend her/his life.

Just wait but expect the worse

bomi · 22/05/2024 01:15

I'm not sure this is a scam.

Even though Vinted 'hold' the money from your account as soon as you purchase something, this doesn't get sent to the seller until the item is marked as delivered & you also need to click to confirm that everything is ok before they receive the money.

There is also an option to say you have an issue if the item you receive isn't what you were expecting etc.

In terms of saying it's posted, there is an option where the seller can click to say it's been sent. This could've been done by accident or perhaps they did it knowing they were going to post it asap.

Vinted could have removed the bag from their website because you claimed it was a scam and they needed to look in to it.

Either way, as you have contacted Vinted, they will send your money back.

Mmhmmn · 22/05/2024 01:17

Can you freeze your debit card?

bomi · 22/05/2024 01:23

PS there is no need to remove your card details or freeze your card. The seller doesn't have access to your card details at all.

It was a genuine question but ok 😂 and for what it’s worth you haven’t been scammed you have just been incredibly thick by buying something that you thought was ‘highly suspicious recently of items (bags) at good price but no reviews’

Have fun.

Seriously 😑 incredibly thick, just no need to be so rude.

Thanks Mystro, wasn't she!

I think this is the end of the line for me with Vinted, it was good for a while but too much dodgy stuff going on now.

Is there a better site for selling things?

There are some crazies on here justbeenscammed !! Ignore 🤣
That's a shame about your experience, I must say I've been incredibly lucky with all my purchases & sales ..so far. But there is a group on FB dedicated to those who have had issues with Vinted. I hear that Ebay is getting pretty popular again.

KreedKafer · 22/05/2024 12:18

If someone on Vinted has 0 reviews, a user name like 'maryweorieurwer1' and is selling brand new looking designer items at a low price, it's a scam.

I bought a (genuine) pair of Ray Bans from Vinted recently (from a seller with a profile pic, a normal name and loads of great reviews) and while I was looking for them I saw dozens and dozens of listings that are obviously either scams or people selling mass produced fakes. I've also seen dozens of fake Fjallraven backpacks, Air Pods and packs of Nike socks.
