To miss going clubbing

I miss going clubbing. The big build up, the buying new clothes to go out in, getting ready. Meeting people spontaneously, thumping beats, good tunes. It was a fun workout. It's like Elle Woods says in Legally Blonde, "Excercise give you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy". Is it just me or has the demise of clubs made us more miserable? I see there's afternoon clubs for the over 30s. I think we need to be dancing more and maybe we'd be happier!

You need to book a flight to Ibiza! Xx

fashionqueen0123 · 18/05/2024 22:17

I miss it too. I used to love being in a club all jumping and singing along to something. And when I was a teen going out with my friends and meeting blokes there and just having such fun.
And yes the shopping for the clothes!
It would definitely need to be in the afternoon now.

Lisad1975 · 18/05/2024 22:18

This is me! I miss those days, I miss my energy and I miss my body soooo much. I miss happy people I watch the old totp and think wtf

minthybobs · 18/05/2024 22:18

Why not go clubbing then?! Nothing stopping you.

If you feel awkward at everyone being younger then why not book to see some live music nights, festivals or bands instead. Nightclubs aren’t the only route to having a fun night out with music

Lenax · 18/05/2024 22:19

What are these afternoon clubs for the 30's and where are they! I miss clubbing too, nowadays I hear friends/ppl my age say how much they prefer sit down meals etc, but honestly, I love going out drinking and dancing and just switching off. You are not alone!

Molone · 18/05/2024 22:20

I agree, it was a lot of fun!

Echobelly · 18/05/2024 22:21

We deliberately slowed things down when we knew we were planning to have kids... I do perhaps miss the getting ready more than the thing itself, but now the kids are old enough to be left alone, DH and I have been clubbing again a few times in the last year which has been fun but exhausting.

QueenCamilla · 18/05/2024 22:22

I'm 38 and still dance the nights away.

Globules · 18/05/2024 22:22

What's stopping you?

Google Day Fever.

I've been to 3. They are the best fun.

Toottooot · 18/05/2024 22:23

Fit yi deein’ inight? Jist ging oot - fits stopping yi?

OldTinHat · 18/05/2024 22:23

So very true! I used to go clubbing four nights a week, danced my shoes off, had an absolute blast!

I've also seen a local nightclub offering afternoon 'raves' for those of us in our dotage!! 😆🤣 I'm wondering if these are the equivalent of afternoon tea dances for us of a certain age (but without the lyrca, whistles and much arm waving)!

Cherrytreat · 18/05/2024 22:23

There's a daytime clubbing tour called Dayfever for the over 30's. It was started by Vicky McClure. I've not been yet but I have tickets, can't wait for a good sweaty dance!

SocksAndTheCity · 18/05/2024 22:25

I'm pretty sure it is @OldTinHat , but we're the next generation of old folks and we want our tunes 😀

BananaLambo · 18/05/2024 22:25

Live music is your friend. You may not reach the heady heights of your late teens/early 20s, but a decent band and a local venue and a couple of pints of cider and you’ll be jigging around in no time. And all ages are there, jumping around on the dance floor.

Snoopsteandcooper · 18/05/2024 22:25

There's not any clubs left open nearby unfortunately, so would need to travel and then difficulty of getting home without paying a small fortune for a taxi.

My body’s not up to it anymore but by god, I wish it was. We drive past the site of Tall Trees in Yarm (for anyone who remembers it) regularly and comment on how sad the once majestic club is now all houses.

It all seems like a lifetime ago and I wish it wasn’t!

mitogoshi · 18/05/2024 22:30

Move to my town, multiple live and recorded options each weekend, but in the evening so home for 12 at the latest, walking distance! Band last night, dj set (Ibiza sounds they called it) tonight, all ages 18-80 having fun

OldTinHat · 18/05/2024 22:31

@minthybobs I go to a well known festival every year near to where I live. It's not the same as wandering round the shops to find that perfect outfit for the weekend, though. Arguing whose turn it is to drive, whose turn is shotgun, getting your mum to phone the club a couple of days before to say it's your 18th so they will give you a free bottle of disgusting Perry (when you're 19, working, but have spent all your wages in Top Shop and on 'keep'!)

Those were the days!

Festivals, bands...not the same. We all did concerts, gigs, live music - but getting ready to go out clubbing was The Best.

hellswelshy · 18/05/2024 22:32

I'm with you op! And like a pp, I'm going to a Day Fever event next week to dance like nobody is watching! Will report back 😎

Daytime over 30s Indie disco is the most fun I've had in a really long time

The first Day Fever in London back in Feb was amazing. It was unique and fresh and full of famous people, as it was innovative.

The last two in April/May weren't comparable sadly. They've taken it too big too quickly imo. And they were an hour shorter.

If it's your first time, I'm sure you'll love it. The tunes are good, and the new djs they're pulling in are alright. The atmosphere is wonderful. About 70% female. It feels very safe compared to other clubs, which are now male and coke dominated.

Comfy shoes and clothes are the order of the day for Day Fever. And it's great being back in an environment where you can dance and dance and dance. Keep an eye out for Vicky McClure. I think she's trying to pop into them all.

Fairyliz · 19/05/2024 15:23

You need to go on a cruise if you can op.
I returned from one a few weeks ago and one of the best bits was going dancing every night, and I’m in my 60’s!

radishpatch · 19/05/2024 15:31

I always wanted to love clubbing, but I just felt self conscious the whole time and it never felt like it looked on TV and films if you see what I mean... which now I'm older I think well of course it didn't Grin nothing does!

If you miss it, head out with some mates OP! You only get one life.
