To miss going clubbing

I miss going clubbing. The big build up, the buying new clothes to go out in, getting ready. Meeting people spontaneously, thumping beats, good tunes. It was a fun workout. It's like Elle Woods says in Legally Blonde, "Excercise give you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy". Is it just me or has the demise of clubs made us more miserable? I see there's afternoon clubs for the over 30s. I think we need to be dancing more and maybe we'd be happier!

What are these afternoon clubs for the 30's and where are they! I miss clubbing too, nowadays I hear friends/ppl my age say how much they prefer sit down meals etc, but honestly, I love going out drinking and dancing and just switching off. You are not alone!

Hah, I'm exactly the same! I'm only 30 but had my first DC at 24 and whilst never a massive/frequent clubber I did like to go out drinking and dancing at least a few times a year before that. However most our friends just dumped us as soon as I was pregnant and then most the new friends we've made (with similar aged kids) are quite a bit older than us, had their kids later and so are of the 'been there, done that, just want a nice (read: expensive!!!) dinner out and a bottle of wine (or three, and also expensive). So I don't have anyone to go out dancing with!

I agree. It was a great stress relief after a week at work. I would look forward to it all week. It was also the only exercise I got in my 20s!

Day parties and festivals are what you need. For my 51st a couple of weeks ago I partied it away at the Brixton Disco Festival. Rolled in at 8am and already got tickets for the next one. I rarely go out but when I do I make it worthwhile. I'll stop when I'm dead!! Grin

go to Hacienda Classical or a similar concert, nostglia 😃

Totally agree, I miss it too! There's hardly any clubs open in my town now only one or two. Also, all of my friends are in their mid-30s and no longer want to go out late on a Saturday night now that they have children to get up with. I had my DD at 22 so had a lot more energy to go clubbing and look after a baby!

I think it’s as much the health and wellness trend as it is people having babies to think about in their 30s.

A late night clubbing usually means too much alcohol, poor sleep, and unhealthy drunken late night meals.

I agree OP! How I loved those days.

I've just been to the May Bank holiday day fever in London, whilst it was ok, and the atmosphere fab, it most definitely isn't day raving or equivalent to clubbing. Think mums night out at jumpin jaks, with songs from the 80s (if they mixed it up, I'd definitely go back)

tsmainsqueeze · 19/05/2024 20:53

I miss it too, the anticipation build up all week then Friday and Saturday night clubbing til the small hours best nights of my life, new clothes and earrings ,on the dance floor most of the night free as a bird ,not a care in the world so much flirting and fun and so cheap back in the 80's.
I feel sorry that nobody today gets the experience we had back then.

Minfilia · 19/05/2024 20:57

I am nearly 40, I used to love clubbing back in the day (3-4 times a week for years!)

Now I can think of nothing worse. Give me pyjamas and an early night any day 😬

If you can get some friends together though, try going to a butlins weekender. I thought it would be awful but it was nostalgic brilliance.

I miss it too, such nostalgia for my old clubbing days! Not heard of Dayfever but def going to check it out, there's one not far from me. Is it hardcore dance/rave type music for pp that have been?

Sunnnybunny72 · 19/05/2024 21:04

They were the best nights of my life thirty years ago. Could wear anything and look good.
It would be my worst nightmare these days.

RockItLikeRocketFuel · 19/05/2024 22:03

I never got the appeal of clubbing.

Something about getting specially dressed to queue up to be charged an entry fee for the privilege of drinking overpriced horse piss while suffering irreparable hearing damage didn't sit well with me, but I can't quite put my finger on what it was.

No, not anything like a rave sadly, just 80s disco music

TurkeyonJoeysHead · 20/05/2024 15:27

@Glowecestrescire ah ok thanks. I might still give it a go, better than nothing!
