Vinted item not as described - I have to pay return fee?!

UnderMyUmbrellaEllaEllaEllaEllaElla · 16/05/2024 17:48

I have received an order today and the item was listed as new without tags but is clearly used. I have proof as I have pictures against the same item that I have as new with tags.

The (rude) seller has agreed to a refund but it seems I have to pay for it. So I'm out of pocket as a direct result of her dishonesty.

This doesn't seem right?! Any way round it?!

It is possible for the seller to generate a return and pay the postage. I mixed up 2 parcels once and did this so the buyers weren’t out of pocket. You will have to go via Vinted though as doubt the seller would co-operate in this case.

There is literally no way the rude cow is going to do this

Really? The terms and conditions at that if something is mis sold and as a result you want to return something, then the buyer is responsible for p&p?

Not questioning what you're saying just very surprised.

But surely it reduces the number of people willing to buy of Vinted encourages dishonest behaviour, so it's a catch 22!

It's a balance. It's very very cheap. You buy carefully knowing you are still taking a gamble.

HumanbyDesign · 16/05/2024 19:26

I've recent experience of this. I raised an issue with the seller, we came to a solution between ourselves but I forgot to click on the button that indicates the solution has been resolved and about 10-14 days later I was contacted by vinted support offering to refund the other so they might have changed their policy?

I came on to say this too, and I’m not your seller…it’s frustrating as hell, but it’s in the t+cs

HumanbyDesign · 16/05/2024 19:30

Apologies, I've just checked and it is still buyer to pay postage 🙄

Coconutter24 · 16/05/2024 19:31

MySunnyHelper · 16/05/2024 18:37

Surely if you are shopping on vinted you are expecting and don't mind second hand?
I'm not comfortable with second hand clothes so wouldn't buy from a mainly second hand market place just in case.
Before any one has a go, part of my autism means clothing is sensory issue and there are some textures I can't have near my skin and often worn clothes change texture if they haven't been cared for well.

I don’t think anyone would have a go at you because you’re not comfortable in second hand clothing. But…. “Surely if you are shopping on vinted you are expecting and don't mind second hand?”
If you buy an item listed as new with tags then no you are not expecting second hand clothes you are expecting a new item with tags as listed!

So it’s fine to sell something advertised as new with tags that is actually worn and without tags?

tommika · 16/05/2024 19:37

It’s ’only’ that the buyer ‘may’ be responsible for paying the return costs.

A responsible seller would accept responsibility for an item ‘significantly not as described’ - but Vinted is a marketplace for mostly private sellers and an unwilling seller won’t agree to cover the cost with a generated label

Brefugee · 16/05/2024 19:42

i think some of you have a bent view of what is ethical and what Vinted is about. Advertised as new without tags, what you should get is new without tags. Advertised as 36" inside leg and it's 28"? you should get 36" inside leg.

And for every mis-sold item that Vinted makes the buyer pay to return to the lying seller, they lose credibility and often users. I got scammed with my first purchase, and Vinted didn't want to know. So fuck them. I don't use them. I guess Vinted don't care, but like ebay before them, they will die of their own arrogance and be full of cheap tat.

You get a full refund if the item is lost in transit. If the item is faulty you get a refund minus return postage.
Annoying but that's the deal. I agree with a pp that it's not much cheaper than buying new, in fact buying new in a sale would be cheaper most of the time

Pleiades2020 · 16/05/2024 22:22

Unfortunately those are the terms and conditions, if an item is faulty, not as described, etc. the buyer has to pay return postage (though the seller can choose an option to pay for postage).

New without tags is a little bit of a gamble - some listings say worn only a couple of times! Erm, it's not new then. Best thing to do is look at the seller's reviews, look carefully at the photos, look at what's in the background. Also beware of lots of auto-feedback seller reviews, which basically means the buyer isn't really happy but doesn't want to leave a bad review. You'll always get some auto-feedback though, so just beware of a large percentage of them.

RueTroussevache · 16/05/2024 22:26

Kalevala · 16/05/2024 18:48

Those are the t&c. I'm happy with them as better for the buyer would drive up fees and reduce the number of people bothering to sell. I only buy cheap items with clear photographs.

Edited

That wouldn't have helped in my case - bought à top, seller sent à jumpsuit, which iI had to pay to return. No choice at all. Seller an absolute selfish idiot.

PrimalOwl10 · 16/05/2024 22:37

I agree op I sell many items and bought some which have been fab. Unfortunately I got item of clothing which was filthy. I always washed items before sending and now I had to pay to return it because a seller didn't have the decency to ensure she had washed it as seen in the photos.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 16/05/2024 23:00

Yes it's a shit policy. Maybe return the item with a little 'altering' so they can't resell it again.

HauntedCosmos · 16/05/2024 23:20

I've just been stung by this too 🙄 instead of receiving a few baby clothing items I got a big box of books. Seller is expecting me to pay to return fees which will cost more than I paid in total! Vinted have been absolutely useless and have confirmed I'm not entitled to a refund or compensation as the seller agreed to a return without covering the cost. Glad it was only £4 and the books will be very useful for a relative of mine.

MumblesParty · 17/05/2024 08:04

Wow I’ve never used Vinted but that’s a shocking policy. So you could order a jumper, and the seller could send you a large box of pebbles instead, and you’d have to pay to return it?!! That’s outrageous!

Op doesnt mind second hand, but when the item was described as NWT then surely thats what should have arrived

NeedANewPhone1 · 17/05/2024 09:11

Unfortunately this is in Vinted terms, though as others have said it is possible for the seller to pay. This is for personal sales.

Of course, there are many businesses selling on Vinted (buying and selling for profit and pretending that they're personal items). Unfortunately, as they are already being dishonest about their status then they don't tend to care about online/distance selling laws and their obligations.

HaystackHair · 17/05/2024 11:02

I had exactly the same recently. She had the audacity to complain that I was complaining.

You could say that you'll keep it and leave a negative review.

Also, there are lots of people at the moment describing things as 'new without tags' then in the description it says 'only used 3 times'.

Something is happening with Mulberry too - lots of people with no reviews selling things really, really cheaply.

Back21970 · 17/05/2024 11:21

What is the buyer protection fee for on Vinted? You would have thought it was to cover this sort of stuff.

I agree it’s wide open to abuse, I’ve had a few seriously dodgy items and the sellers don’t even respond, I’ve not bothered to send them back as didn’t pay a lot but it is seriously annoying.

One was a child’s raincoat when I ordered an adults one, hardly ‘item not as expected’ it was for an age 4 and was listed as a size 12 and a totally different colour and style!

I check feedback now before I buy anything and would be very cautious about anything over £10 as that’s about as much as I’m prepared to lose.

Have had several cracking bargains though so for me probably worth the risk.

Sharontheodopolodous · 17/05/2024 11:50

I bought a tee on vinted
A pair of jeans arrived
The snotty seller kept telling me I had to send them back and she'd post my tee
At my own expense,I sent the jeans back and was promptly blocked by the seller
Utter waste of £8 (both postage and feed) and I couldn't leave feedback
Other than that,I've never had a problem
