DH steals my snacks ...

AIBU? (light hearted, but actually fuming)

DH doesn't like snacks. Well, that's what he says anyway!
Today we went to our local refillable shop, I bought a small bag of dark chocolate covered brazil nuts. Thinking I'd enjoy them this evening.

'Do you want anything?' I asked him.

'No, I'm OK thanks.'
Perfect, small bag, about twenty brazils.
Just went into the fridge. More than half of them are gone!
'You've eaten my brazils!' I wailed at him.
'Oh, I only had a few, err a couple.'
Fuming.

What makes it even worse (for me) is that I know he'll have just gone into the fridge, grabbed several, chucked them in his mouth and seconds later they'd have been gone. No bloody appreciation for the deliciously bitter but sweet chocolate enrobed around a fresh, crunchy and creamy brazil nut. I wanted to put them into my lovely handmade bowl I bought on holiday and look at them all shiny and beautiful and savour them slowly whilst watching Masterchef.

He does this all the time with packets of crisps that he says he doesn't want, then eats half of them or what I've left in the bag for the next day for myself, mini pork pies from M&S when he 'hates pastry.' Don't even get me started on the chocolate hob nobs I bought on Friday that he 'doesn't like' yet managed to gobble half the packet in the time it took me to have a shower last night.

AIBU? Think I might just LTB. Or should I just get double of everything next time?

How big is your patio..we won't say anything

Aglassaday · 06/05/2024 19:43

One thing you don’t mess with is someone’s snacks! Serious business that is.

I’d just buy double everything if you can, worse that happens is you get double for yourself

CoffeeBeansGalore · 06/05/2024 19:45

Can you make your own snacks with laxative chocolate & just leave them in the fridge?

RandomMess · 06/05/2024 19:45

You need to find a lovely a snack he doesn't like Angry

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 06/05/2024 19:46

I do the food shop, repeatedly ask DH on Wednesday if there’s anything he wants adding to the list…snacks… drinks… anything you want? Nope… watching his weight… then tonight starts moaning that we have “no good snacks”!? Thankfully he doesn’t like my snacks, so he will probably turn to the kids snacks in a bit!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/05/2024 19:46

Dammit. I want chocolate brazils now.

ForeverYellow · 06/05/2024 19:48

Ooh , Dh does that too . Also if I get something as soon as I sit down to enjoy it he says “ where’s mine “ with a sad little face . I buy enough of most stuff for the whole family , including him , but save the special things he “doesn’t like “ by hiding them in the boot of my car or my makeup drawer !

MattDamon · 06/05/2024 19:49

Your first mistake was not having a cheaper decoy snack left out for him to steal. Now you know.

Noshferatu · 06/05/2024 19:51

He might be sorry soon - I didn’t know until recently that it’s very possible to eat too many Brazil nuts in fact I think no more than a few a day is recommended. To do with their high selenium content.

I like the idea of a decoy snack!

Elieza · 06/05/2024 20:02

Get a locked box and write Womens Monthly Things or something like that on the outside to prevent questions. Hide in the bedroom.

Buy double whatsnacks you need and put half in the locked box and let him have some of the other stuff you put in the cupboards. Put the cheapest crap he likes at the front of the cupboard so it gets pinched first. Grin

Withswitch · 06/05/2024 20:05

Definitely need a lock box, or an old cardboard box with an antibiotics label in the fridge which is actually rammed full of chocolate.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 06/05/2024 20:07

I say you take off and nuke him from space. It’s the only way to be sure

YANBU - but you definitely need a special drawer.

Tiedtoatwat · 06/05/2024 20:11

It's not just snacks here, it's any bloody food he gets his greedy eye on!! He's eaten so many things that were meant for other family members - on top of his own food! He's a greedy bastard and it is driving me insane!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/05/2024 20:15

That would make me so mad! Especially the eating them with no appreciation. And having said he didn’t want anything. All of it really.

Remagirl · 06/05/2024 20:18

Same in our house but he often eats the lot! I now have a little stash space!

Runningbird43 · 06/05/2024 20:29

I bet he only had “ a couple” 6 times.

that’s the issue in this house. People swear they “only had one”, and genuinely don’t seem to realise they kept going back “for one” until the lot was gone.

Citrusandginger · 06/05/2024 20:41

I'll give you an alibi. I hide my chocolate. Which sounds really juvenile, but is the only way I get to make my bar last the week.

DH always eats all his treats on day one.

KissMyArt · 06/05/2024 20:47

These 'lighthearted' threads are a weekly occurrence.

There's nothing funny or lighthearted about living with a selfish man.

And no-one should have to hide food in their own home.

Theunamedcat · 06/05/2024 20:52

I used to eat licorice because my ex hated it

Buy something fig or date heavy give him the shits

BMW6 · 06/05/2024 20:53

Tell him you're really really pissed off because you asked him if he wanted any snacks and having said No he should have left YOUR treats alone!

My DH thinks yours is a "right cunt".

Shinyandnew1 · 06/05/2024 20:55

Stealing snacks is unforgivable!

I would buy them (having already offered to get him something but been turned down) and say, I have bought myself 20 x and I’m massively looking forward to eating them later-they are sealed and not yours and I will be counting them. Buy your own snacks if you want some or tell me what you want when I ask.

Tiedtoatwat · 06/05/2024 20:57

I'm getting one of those boxes. I've currently hidden bacon under potatoes on the bottom shelf of the fridge. Not so much that I don't want him to eat it, but that he makes a mess of the grill pan and never cleans it!!
