Day 20 of cycle - pull out method!! 37 and should know better!

Ok so I don’t take the pill for one reason and another but we would usually use protection (all be it not that it happens often) anyway we had sex last night and didn’t use anything DH went old school and pulled out in time. But being usually very cautious in my thinking we’ve never relied on this in the past because I know that although not as likely you can still get pregnant this way.

my questions is AIBU to get the morning after pill? It’s been playing on my mind. We have a little one already and no intentions of another. I’m 38 DH 40. We are happy with what we have. What should I do!!!

If you are worried, just get the morning after pill. No point in waiting and then regretting it later.

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/05/2024 12:18

Go and get it now.

Letsseeshallwe · 04/05/2024 12:31

Day 20? Would be pointless to get map surely.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 04/05/2024 12:36

Get MAP but beware that you may already be pregnant so it won't work.
The MAP has decreasing effectiveness the longer you leave to take it.

Peonies12 · 04/05/2024 12:38

Seems very unlikely but hey morning after pill if you need reassurance. Pull out worked for us for years and I got pregnant fairly quickly when we tried, but we were always ok with the risk of pregnancy before

Crazygal2024 · 05/05/2024 07:04

Thanks all. I’m struggling to get hold of it with the bank holiday. Found a site that delivers next day but sold out 🙈

I know it is probably unlikely but the risk is still there never the less!

@Crazygal2024 are you near a supermarket that has a pharmacy? Go down at 10am and ask

ButtCheeks · 05/05/2024 07:11

Do you have a 28 day cycle? If so I wouldn’t worry

you can't say its pointless as everyone's cycle is different - i never ovulated 'til around day 20/21 as i had long cycles! unless you cycle track or have a very clear idea of when you ovulate you can never presume you are not fertile.

Crazygal2024 · 05/05/2024 11:32

My cycles aren’t consistent. But shorter rather than longer. The last 3 months have been. 28 23 25 days xx

Ordering them is a faff, plus adds time, which means it’s less effective. Is there a supermarket with a pharmacy? Or a Boots open?

ChampagneGold · 05/05/2024 11:42

I've been caught out using this 'method' and had to terminate.

However The fact that you're at day 20 with shorter than average cycles surely means you've already ovulated so maybe a pharmacy wouldn't give you the MAP?

Candleabra · 05/05/2024 11:45

There’s no such thing as the “pull out method”. It’s not a contraceptive. Defo get the MAP.
I think each area has to have a pharmacy open even at bank holidays.

Pllystyrene · 05/05/2024 11:48

Hi, just a word of caution I'm 39 and about to have my surprise baby from the same method, after conceiving towards the end of my cycle.

Wildlynx · 05/05/2024 11:50

No point as you almost certainly will have ovulated with short-ish cycles

Crazygal2024 · 05/05/2024 12:32

Hi all. I’ve bought it just in case. I’m still torn on what to do. Has anyone taken it before?

What are your concerns?

Crazygal2024 · 05/05/2024 12:40

@Candleabra just messing my cycle up causing spotting or making endo flare up.
I had endometriosis removed back last year and only the last few months actually feeling the benefits with no spotting and no pain. I’m scared all the hormones may affect it?

I've taken it, didn't have any side effects. Time for your DH to get the snip. My partner did a few years ago. It was liberating.

ShadesofPoachedSmoke · 05/05/2024 12:46

What do you do? Take the MAP, hope you're not pregnant and then sort out a proper method of contraception.
Don't risk this again.

If you don't want any more kids at your ages, and hormonal contraception doesn't suit you, your DH could have a vasectomy. No more issues.

Noln · 05/05/2024 12:50

If you usually have short cycles then by day 20 you will have already ovulated and the egg will be dead and gone. He also pulled out and did not ejaculate inside? You are 99% not pregnant, it's just so staggeringly unlikely. MAP delays ovulation so it personally seems pointless to take to me.

If you had irregular cycles that tended to be longer, suggesting you sometimes ovulated much later, then it'd be different.

Oh dear, yes I see why you’re worried. I suppose it comes down to whether you want to risk a pregnancy. You’ll get a hormone surge with that too.
If it was me (and I didn’t want a baby) then I’d take the MAP. But please sort out your contraception. Yet again, the man takes the risk (and gets the pleasure) and yet it’s you dealing with the consequences.

Nottherealslimshady · 05/05/2024 12:54

I've taken it, didn't have any side effects. It was during a low fertility time but I didn't want to be pregnant and figured I'd rather waste 60 quid than go through a termination.

FarmGirl78 · 05/05/2024 12:56

What do you call a couple who use pull out method?

Mum & Dad

WaltzingWaters · 05/05/2024 13:02

I used it, had no side effects - except still getting pregnant!
