Dd 12 used a ear piercing gun off internet

Or should I say her friend did to pierce her and her friends and lots of other kids eat. Dd says it was sanitary and a new gun was used won her iv looked them up on Amazon. But I can’t be sure I’m worried. I may be being stupid but can blood borne viruses be passed this way? Or anything else
I’m so angry and annoyed

Did they do it at school? Worth raising with head of year/school nurse if they have one. Might give them a bit of a chat and put the wind up them, before she comes home with her nose done.

MabelMaybe · 08/05/2024 10:11

In our family folklore it was a potato cut in half stuck either side of the lobe and a needle pushed through. They didn't half have bad ears apparently. you don't say

I'd be annoyed that her friend, presumably of the same age, had been able to get hold of a gun to do this at her age, but at least it was a disposable set-up. Out of interest, how even are the two sides? And why did she think you'd be pleased? Because she's saved you money?

GimmeSleep · 08/05/2024 10:21

Aww I did mine with a needle, which I'd "sterilized" with my dad's lighter. Only 1 side because I wasn't brave enough to do the other 😂
Went downstairs looking a bit pasty and was given a small glug of whisky 😂

Actually healed far better than the ones I got done at Binns & Claires 😉

Emmz1510 · 08/05/2024 10:28

I’m sure she’ll live and the risk is probably minimal, especially if she is able to reassure you that it was a disposable needle. If you wanted to make absolutely sure you could speak to a GP and get them to check it over and also be alert to signs of infection.
It might be worth having a word with the parents of the piercer though- they probably aren’t aware she is doing this and may want to put a stop to it!

Oblomov24 · 08/05/2024 10:30

Or dear, they all sound young and immature. Did she ask about getting her ears pierced before. when did you last discuss it with her?
Is it Claire's that use a gun, whereas others suggest a needle is best?

unsync · 08/05/2024 13:34

I did mine with a big needle from the sewing box. I did wipe it with surgical spirit first though, it was a bit stingy. You could feel it pop as it went through the different layers.

My boyfriend's mum said I should have got a 'tear along the dotted line' tattoo as I had that many piercings. I still have studs or hoops in most of them.

Although this should not of happened the guns never make contact with the skin as the part that does holds the ear rings and is disposed after use the gun only holds the cartridge that holds the ear rings however the germs on the hands and fingers will increase risk of infection so either leave the earrings in and keep clean or remove them and keep clean the holes will heal

MaltipooMama · 08/05/2024 14:05

I wouldn't like this one little bit! But on the flip side I can remember it being much worse than this, 30 years ago my 14 year old sister pierced her own nose with a red hot needle!

peacefull · 08/05/2024 14:29

I was 8 days old when my nan done my ears with sharp back studs apparently i didnt even move or cry.
When i was 10 i ask my mum for 2 more she done sharp back studs straight in done in seconds.
I had my nose done on a market at 12.
Belly button at 14 tongue done at 16.
Wouldent get away with it today.
By the time i was 20 i had 7 studs in each ear tongue bar belly button nose stud a bar on each collarbone snake bites septum and a diamond bar on my downstairs.

My mother was never against piercings but did not like tattoos she said when you have grown out of being a scrap yard you can take them out you cant with ink on your skin.

She was right i now only have one pair of studs in now and my diamond down below.
I took them all out when i was 26 it was not me anymore.
Thank god i never went for tattoos.

sleepover piercing were the best 😂

softslicedwhite · 08/05/2024 14:43

I pierced my nose myself when I was 15. And my cartilage in my left ear. I'd definitely discourage it but it's been happening since piercing began.

May2024 · 08/05/2024 14:45

I'm glad you can now see the funny side OP. It is indeed a rite of passage.

My story is squeezing my earlobe very very very tight so it went white then piercing with a guide badge! No sterilising involved. :)

HollaHolla · 08/05/2024 14:55

I got a cartilage piercing when I was drunk, in a bar in New Zealand, in 1996. The guy used a lighter and a sewing needle. Not my finest moment, but still seems to be ok.... 😂
I wouldn't be recommending it, or letting someone do it at school, either! If it was a disposable one, that's better, at least.

Jins · 08/05/2024 14:59

Mine was a compass during a biology lesson and a friend whipped a stud out of her ear and it went straight in mine. Decades later that’s the piercing that caused me the fewest problems.

I’ve bought a couple of those piercing kits myself as for some reason lost to fashion history we all had multiple piercings in the left ear and just one in the right. I quite fancy evening things up

AliceMcK · 08/05/2024 15:02

I used one of my friends earrings I was looking after while she was swimming and I was on my period. I just stuck it in my ear. Hygiene not even a factor.

Duechristmas · 10/05/2024 08:20

Mine did this on the beach during covid, I was not a happy bunny but by then it was done!

ArchesOfsunflowers · 10/05/2024 08:25

For me it was a needle on the hob then the support of a broad bean for my second holes. First were a gun. Third/ four gun and a cartilage with a proper needle but at home.
Of course my own precious dd went to a tattoo parlour with amazing hygiene. Too young at the moment for self done ones 😏
Honestly, I wouldn’t stress

Why did we do that 😂

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 10/05/2024 08:30

I used a safety pin to pierce my own ear in class when I was a teenager 🤦‍♀️. Have lived to tell the tale.

OkPedro · 02/05/2024 22:37

Ah memories 😁 my friend at least poured boiling water over the sewing needle she then jammed into my ears!

We 'sterilised' ours with a lighter 🤣

Mimimimi1234 · 10/05/2024 13:54

I have no ear pearcings now but had 7 peircings up me ear as a teen. All but one were done by me or friends. I would have the same reaction as you though now tbh. I think youve got to try and not over think it and offer to take her to the shop and pay for it if she should want any more. Its highly unlikely any of her friends at that age have any diseases too, so even if it was shared then any risks are really low.

TheCoolOliveBalonz · 10/05/2024 13:58

We used to use frozen food out the freezer to 'numb' the area. Then heat a pin on a lighter flame. I can't believe how dumb we were! Hilarious in hindsight.

TheCoolOliveBalonz · 10/05/2024 14:01

It's impressively together to source actual equipment

TheCompactPussycat · 10/05/2024 14:05

When I was at school we had a craze of becoming "blood brothers/sisters" with each other by cutting our fingers and then smooshing our blood into each others wounds! We all survived!

I'm sure she'll be fine.

Try not to panic .this has been going on for years. Also remember friends scratching their boyfriends name into their arm with a compass point ( yes really)!

holy shit, that's a memory I had totally repressed!!
