Dd 12 used a ear piercing gun off internet

Or should I say her friend did to pierce her and her friends and lots of other kids eat. Dd says it was sanitary and a new gun was used won her iv looked them up on Amazon. But I can’t be sure I’m worried. I may be being stupid but can blood borne viruses be passed this way? Or anything else
I’m so angry and annoyed

Get DD to explain /show you which bits were reused and which bits replaced between children. I guess piercer didnt wear disposable gloves, so there could be a small risk.

Aah, DIY piercing brings back teenage memories... its a stupid thing to do but children are programmed to do dumb thibgs sometimes.

I see the upset, really I do. Plus, I see piercing threads on here and I always say, no guns, proper shop all the good stuff. Because it really is the good stuff! However, I am pierced quite a lot. My second pair of ear lobe holes were done by a friend literally pushing her studs in through my ear. Her studs she took out of her ear! No issue.

My 3rd set of holes in my lobes were at a sleepover. Another friend used a needle. The same needle to do 5 of us.

These are clearly v v unsafe practices, I will be steering my dc down safe paths. I am just saying that kids have been piercing themselves and one another forever. It is very rare for it all to go badly wrong.

So please try to relax.

Friend piercing your ears is a story older than me, it’s not exactly rare. Did she already have her ears pierced and this was an extra, or have you not allowed her to have them done so far?

Exasperateddonut · 02/05/2024 22:31

At least she wasn’t using a paperclip from her maths book….

this is a story older than time. At least they used ‘proper’ kit.

Changingplace · 02/05/2024 22:31

I’d just make sure she keeps it clean and I’m sure it’ll be fine, salt water is recommended but I got some great tea tree oil healing balm from Piercing Mania that cleared up a piercing I had that was done at a great place but despite that still didn’t heal initially.

Its not ideal but I wouldn’t panic about it, I’ve got two cartilage piercings my mate did with a gun when I was a teenager and I’m sure a load of people had them done at the same time, not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

caringcarer · 02/05/2024 22:32

On Amazon you get individual packs to pierce eats for about £5. I used one to re-pierced my second hole as it had grown over. You can buy additional earrings to put in the guns but you only save about 99p so no point.

Lol she thought I’d be pleased apparently

she has a video of it and it does look like a disposable one! She is sure it was new and double checked with the girl.

At least it wasn't in the school toilets using someone else's earing.... yeah there was a girl who would do it in the bathroom for you at school....

I'm sure she will be fine. I would be more keeping an eye for an infection to be honest

Ah memories 😁 my friend at least poured boiling water over the sewing needle she then jammed into my ears!

SocksAndTheCity · 02/05/2024 22:40

Mine was in the school toilets with someone elses earring @Springchickenonion ! My friend Cara did it, although IIRC she did hold the post part in the flame of her Clipper lighter first 😂

I still wear an extra huggie hoop in that one occasionally, nearly forty years on 😊

EnglishBluebell · 02/05/2024 22:41

My Mum's ears were pierced by her friend in 1959 using a cork and a pin or a maybe it was a needle? A lighter was used to sterilise. Worked fine as her ears are still pierced to this day.

dottiedodah · 02/05/2024 22:42

Try not to panic .this has been going on for years. Also remember friends scratching their boyfriends name into their arm with a compass point ( yes really)!

Springchickenonion · 02/05/2024 22:43

@SocksAndTheCity 🤣 I was too scared to let her do it. But she would have a queue! I think my friend used a lighter too. Bit her name wasn't cara! Seems to be a universal trade 🤣

Springchickenonion · 02/05/2024 22:44

Actually when you see the piercing guns used these days at the like of claires. She was probably more sensible! 🤣

That's how my dgm got her ears pierced during the war.

I can see why you're concerned but it's been a right of passage for tweens/teens for donkeys

Sewing needle and a cold potato here...

Blueplantpots · 02/05/2024 22:47

Like others this brought back memories. We used ice cubes, a needle sterilised with dettol and a potato at the back of the ear. 😂. I won’t go into the Indian ink tattoos…

Keep it as clean as possible is my advice. I’m impressed with her and her friends being so responsible tbh.

Haha I’m loving all your stories but this has to be the best!
genuine consensus is she will live lol!

shes very happy with it all lol
she had her firsts done a few years ago and I agreed to a second but we never got round to it! Apparently her friend is a pro and they all had one!

And bad Indian ink tats.

Nat6999 · 03/05/2024 04:37

I did mine with a safety pin in English at school. I'd already got one set done at a beauty salon but wanted another set. I didn't get an infection & my lobes haven't dropped off. It's a right of passage, at least it isn't a tattoo.

PineappleTime · 03/05/2024 05:37

How likely are a bunch of 12 year olds to have blood borne viruses even if they did do some unsanitary things. Of course it was silly but in a minor way. I pierced my own ears several times around that age with a pin. Nothing bad happened!

Flopsy145 · 03/05/2024 07:38

My friends used to do it with an ice cube, needle and apple, so using guns is probably more sanitary 😂 I've used one from the internet before and they're usually one use shots and then you have to click in a new bit with new earring?
