I work 4 days a week 8AM/6PM in a nursery. Hate it and looking for something new

All the fucking hours … ( not really I’m just grumpy!) I get paid for 37 hours a week. I squeeze about 40 hours into a 9 day fortnight so I can try and be sane. It’s not going well just now!

JacquesHarlow · 29/04/2024 20:15

If someone tells you the hours they work, and it is in a profession that you can’t transfer to, how does this help you?

Nursingadvice · 29/04/2024 20:15

22.5 hours, 3 days, I also used to work in a nursery and wouldn’t go back

Lovelynames123 · 29/04/2024 20:17

Some weeks 7 days, 5am-5pm, some weeks around 45hrs, some weeks only 30, and I can take holiday whenever I like - I work for myself!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/04/2024 20:19

I work 5 days a week 8-5:30 but quite often carry on working at home on a few of those days and usually work at home on Sunday mornings. I'm a teacher.

Yollyyoo · 29/04/2024 20:22

37.5 hours NHS. Works out at 13 x 12.5 hour shifts per month. No set pattern. Sometimes have 10 days between shifts. I work long days and nights, including the weekends and bank holidays. I can request days I don't want to be rostered for the coming 8 weeks.

TulipTuesday · 29/04/2024 20:51

37.5 hours 8:30-4:30 M-F NHS admin role. 2 days office based, 3 days working from home.
I worked minimum wage in retail jobs for forever and never thought I’d have a job like this in a million years.

Pussygaloregalapagos · 29/04/2024 21:01

Every day. About 6 to 12 hours daily in the week and usually about 3 to 6 on weekends. It’s a bit of a slog but I get distracted and need to catch up. My kids are teenagers so it is ok for them. I only cook dinner once or twice a week. Rest of the time they sort their own meals out.

Jegersur · 29/04/2024 21:02

I do full time hours but a 9-day fortnight. But I work shifts, so early starts or late evenings, and weekends and public holidays.

rockingbird · 29/04/2024 21:04

My 'contracted' hours are Monday-Thursday 11-3 but the reality is I'm often online early am before the kids wake up and dip in some evenings if needed.. everyone in the team knows I'm totally flexible and not work shy so the hours and the work gets done around my life! 😆 some days I do frick all and no questions me. Other days I don't move from my desk from 7am.. swings and roundabouts.

2chocolateoranges · 29/04/2024 21:05

I als work in early years. 6 hr shifts Mon- Fri. Love my job…. Most of the time.

used to work in another nursery 8-5 or 9-6 Mon-Fri and I hated it. I now work 10 hours less a week than I did for much more money that I was on before. I was ready for leaving early years and decided to give another nursery a try and it’s worked out really well.

Motherpro · 29/04/2024 21:06

I work in adult care in a residential setting. I work on a 3 week rota and do 42 hours one week 28 the next and 35 the third week. I do 9 7 hour shifts either 0700-1400 or 1400-2100 and 3 14 hour shifts 0700-2100. With careful holiday planning I get every third week off 😊

pinkwaterbottle9 · 29/04/2024 21:29

6-2pm 4 days a week including weekends and bank holidays

Titsywoo · 29/04/2024 21:34

I run a business so it depends! In the quieter times I work 9 to 3pm 4 or 5 days a week. In the busy times it is 8.30 to 4.30pm 5 days a week. However I also do admin in the evenings for 1-2 hours a night all year around.
