Hotel room vomit

Goodawn · 28/04/2024 08:35

Who is supposed to clear it up in a hotel?

Ds 14 leaned over his bed at midnight and vomited on the hard floor (vinyl.wood)

We were in Norway at an airport hotel - a chain similar to a Radisson, bit nicer.

You actually feel the need to ask this on social media rather than just clean it up? 🙄

Thanks.

Ds is ok, probably norovirus as we all got it then.

People suggesting he cleans it up himself! I'm quite a harsh mum and times, but poor lad.

Also suggesting I could merrily roll back to sleep leaving sick on the floor until morning.....ummm

“Also suggesting I could merrily roll back to sleep leaving sick on the floor until morning.....ummm”

I’m confused, if you wouldn’t leave it why the need for the question? If you’ve already cleaned it what does it matter

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 28/04/2024 19:22

Why are you asking?

Poor lad? Who else where you suggesting then as that only leaves yourself, no?

Goodawn · 28/04/2024 21:07

This happened 2 weeks ago. Lol people thinking I'm asking in real time!

Weirder that you’re asking about a situation which concluded two weeks ago tbh.

I'd clean it up with anything that was in the room. Towels - which I'd then take and deposit what I could in the toilet and then shower them thoroughly.

Attended a wedding many years ago when I was six months pregnant and dh woke at 3am and puked on the floor (a lot) absolutely no way I could stay in the room (hyperemesis gravidarum) let alone clear it up and he certainly wasn't capable so did the only thing I could and packed up swiftly and drove home (2 hours). Rang the hotel at 8am and explained what happened, apologised profusely and offered to pay for carpet cleaning etc, they were totally fine about it! Do I still bring it up from time to time - yep!

dancinfeet · 28/04/2024 21:54

you clean it up- we had an awful sickness bug on holiday in spain once- youngest DD was sick on the bedding, I hand washed it all out in the shower using some travel wash and dried it all out on the balcony- although it was then put back into the dirty laundry to be washed properly at least it wasnt totally stinking for the hotel staff to deal with.

Well why are you asking them? If you obviously would clean it up yourself - why ask?!

dragonscannotswim · 28/04/2024 21:55

Mindymomo · 28/04/2024 08:39

I would clean it up as best I can, but I expect hotels in Norway, given the price, would have cleaners round the clock, ring and ask reception if room could be cleaned whilst you are at breakfast.

Um, not all hotels in Norway are expensive...

You'd make your sick child clear up their own vomit? What kind of mother are you?

Edited

Presumably the sort who does not want to train her son to expect women to clean up after him.

watermelonsugar56 · 28/04/2024 22:27

Hope you’re all ok now op. I had the ghastly norovirus last year for the third time and never ever want it again (who does). Would do anything for some kind of vaccine xx

TeamLauraOrHemione · 28/04/2024 22:48

@ShagratandGorbag4ever I'd expect my husband to clear up after me if I had noravirus and I'd not managed to make it to the toilet. As I'd expect to clear up after him.

You'd honestly expect your ill children to clear up after themselves if they were sick? Then you are a revolting person.

Well, why were you asking? It seems odd to post the question if you're affronted that some people might think that you would have not cleared up.

Summerbay23 · 28/04/2024 23:22

Confused about why you’re asking? You cleaned it up, which was the right thing to do. Only other option was your son (also good option) or leaving for hotel staff (bad option). Obviously ask staff for disinfectant if necessary?

Goodawn · 29/04/2024 05:08

I was surprised that anyone could think i could leave the sick on the floor until morning, but actually I didn't state whether I thought the hotel would deal with it or I was getting down and scooping it all up by myself

So, do you think the hotel should have dealt with it? Did you request it and were refused? Did the hotel tell you you shouldnt have dealt with it? I don't understand why you're asking, as it seems obvious to me that you do it, and you did, so what's prompted you to question if you were right?

Goodawn · 29/04/2024 13:24

Sadly the more personal opinion you give the more the bullies pounce.

I just wanted to know what the usual thing would be to do.

I think its about what the considerate thing is to do. Hotel staff would find it very unpleasant to have to do this. They are often poorly paid and its one thing to change sheets and do a normal clean and quite another to clean up a pool of vomit. I don't know what's 'usual' as people are often very inconsiderate towards service staff, but its certainly the decent thing to have done, so, you did right.

fridaynightdinner12346 · 29/04/2024 14:53

Don't be absurd; 100% you. Ask for cleaning products and get as much up as you can.
