Hotel room vomit

Who is supposed to clear it up in a hotel?

Ds 14 leaned over his bed at midnight and vomited on the hard floor (vinyl.wood)

We were in Norway at an airport hotel - a chain similar to a Radisson, bit nicer.

I guess you would clean up what you can and then ask reception for a mop?

FrannieGallops · 28/04/2024 08:36

You should clean it up.

MayYourToastLandButterSideUp · 28/04/2024 08:36

You.
Well you clear it up as best you can (hands, tissues, bin bag from the rooms bins) and then inform hotel so they can sanitise. You don’t leave a pile of vomit for the hotel to clean up.

bradpittsbathwater · 28/04/2024 08:37

I'd clean it up myself as best as I could. Would feel awful asking someone else to clean it up! Ask reception for cleaning stuff.

MarmitePizza · 28/04/2024 08:37

Him??? Failing that you.

Do you seriously think that you’d just leave a pile of vomit there for the cleaners?

Granted, you won’t have cleaning products but you can at least get rid of the actual vomit.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/04/2024 08:37

I would ask at reception for paper towels/spray if there weren't any in the room.

Wowzel · 28/04/2024 08:37

When i was sick in a hotel i cleaned it up best i could with tissues/towels etc but the hotel then deep cleaned and charged me for it.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 28/04/2024 08:38

You, obviously! Who says you should leave it for the poor staff? Jesus.

spottedinthewilds · 28/04/2024 08:38

You should absolutely clean up what you can and then advise the hotel so that it can have a deep clean.

Mindymomo · 28/04/2024 08:39

I would clean it up as best I can, but I expect hotels in Norway, given the price, would have cleaners round the clock, ring and ask reception if room could be cleaned whilst you are at breakfast.

KohlaParasaurus · 28/04/2024 08:44

This happened with one of my children many years ago, but she was sick in the bed. I spoke to hotel reception straight away, expecting to be given clean sheets and a bag to put the soiled ones in so that I could deal with it myself. They sent a member of cleaning staff to deal with it. I gave her a large tip.

thanKyouaIMee · 28/04/2024 08:46

Him! Clear it up with whatever tissue paper / toilet paper is available and bag it up (don't leave it in a bin!) and let the staff know you've cleaned it but it'll need a bit of extra attention.

Do not step over an obvious pile of vomit you know about and leave it for the cleaners, that's heinous.

Fuckitydoodah · 28/04/2024 08:47

You clear it up as much as you're able to and then go to reception to let them know so they can ensure it's dealt with properly.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 28/04/2024 08:48

Bagsy not me.

RabbitsRock · 28/04/2024 08:49

Hope your DS is ok now.

Goodawn · 28/04/2024 12:08

Thanks.

Ds is ok, probably norovirus as we all got it then.

People suggesting he cleans it up himself! I'm quite a harsh mum and times, but poor lad.

Also suggesting I could merrily roll back to sleep leaving sick on the floor until morning.....ummm

Poor kid, bless him. I'd go to reception and ask for some cleaning stuff and do the best I could to get it sorted myself.

ASighMadeOfStone · 28/04/2024 12:12

You obviously.
Then as soon as possible you explain to reception that someone was ill so they can let housekeeping know that more than a cursory sweep will be needed.

Sparklesocks · 28/04/2024 12:14

Yes like others, do as well as I can myself then let reception know so they can mop etc.

BasilBanana · 28/04/2024 12:16

What, people on here actually make their child clean up their own vomit when they're poorly? This is a 14 year old, not a drunk 21 year old.

Maybe it's just when you have a little toddler you imagine 14 to be so much older than it actually is when you get there. But I grew up safe in the knowledge that if I was poorly, my mum and dad would look after me and clear up after me if I was sick. I'd like my children to feel like that too.

Anyway, in that situation, me or my husband would clear it up as much as possible, and then I'd let the hotel know.

OK so what was the issue then? Was someone you are with saying to leave it?

NorthernSpirit · 28/04/2024 12:17

You (as best you can) and let reception know (so they can sanitise)

If someone vomited in your house would you be happy to clean it all up or would you expect them to have made some sort of effort?

Personally I wouldn’t be happy for a (probably) minimum wage cleaner to clean up this sort of mess.

OutOfTheHouse · 28/04/2024 12:22

I would contact reception, tell them what happened and ask for some cleaning stuff.

TokyoSushi · 28/04/2024 12:23

Absolutely you, this happened to us once at an Air BnB type of place and I actually went to the supermarket to buy extra cleaning stuff, then let reception know so that they can give it a double clean.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 28/04/2024 12:26

Not a hotel, but a holiday park lodge.

We'd upgraded to a tree house, child 1 was sick on the third night, but managed to make the bathroom. Child 2 then started being sick on the fourth night, but as younger didn't make the bathroom.
We cleaned up best we could, called guest relations first thing in the morning and then left a tip for the cleaners as we appreciated it would be a more intensive job than usual.

Don't think we'll ever upgrade again tbh 🤣
