Is the full moon to blame for this?

This week from Tuesday/Wednesday onwards, I’ve felt really emotional, quite weepy and now just fed up and a bit down, no particular reason, also v sensitive.
My friend said it’s the recent full moons and Scorpio or something. I always dismissed this before, but have been finding info about full moons quite interesting.

Anyone else been the same this week?

Or is it all a load of nonsense?

Not sure about the Moon, but I've been down and depressed lately and just meh.
I put mine down to age and generally feeling fed up with life , but could be other reasons at play and the moon is as good a start as any !

K37529 · 27/04/2024 21:08

It’s not the moon lol something is obviously bothering you even if you don’t realise what it is.

Ohbritainsgottalentagain · 27/04/2024 21:09

@the80sweregreat Yes feel the same tbh but trying to fight it, has been worse this week though

Been really low, but it's mostly life pressures ( usual things, money etc)
I read once that the moon and ladies periods are linked , but not sure how that works.
(Someone was waffling on about it at work once , but not sure what it all meant )
The moon controls the tides , but I've never understood the science behind this either

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/04/2024 21:14

I work in dementia and know when it's coming up to a full moon. Residents become more confused than normal.

Jiski · 27/04/2024 21:19

Could be to do with gravitational pressure etc, could also be because it’s fricking cold 🥶

the80sweregreat · 27/04/2024 21:20

The weather isn't helping I suppose
I loath it too hot , but even I'd like one nice sunny day ( just not boiling hot!)
It hasn't been a good spring in the UK so far

DogsBehavingWrongly · 27/04/2024 21:25

The full moon thing is real, I worked in a hospital and used to dread nights on a full moon, it sent everyone barmy - even the patients that were not normally confused would start playing up

the80sweregreat · 27/04/2024 21:27

Isn't the word ' lunatic' to do with Luna ( moon?) Latin or something?
When people would become werewolf's?

Papergirl1968 · 27/04/2024 21:55

I used to work for the police (civilian) and full moon nights were always the busiest. Especially when the full moon was at a weekend when people tended to be out drinking anyway.

DrunkenElephant · 27/04/2024 21:59

I know nothing about the moon link but I’ve been really down since Wednesday night, unusually so. I actually had an anxiety attack for the first time in ten years on Wednesday evening.

Off to do some reading on the link between the two, sounds interesting!

peopleonthebusgoupanddown · 27/04/2024 22:01

It's been statistically proven that full moon nights are not busier for crime or hospitals, but confirmation bias is a powerful thing.

Redkite11 · 27/04/2024 22:04

I am astonished by this thread. I initially read it for a joke and assumed it would be full of astrology nuts. However, I must swallow my pride. The posts from the hospital and care home workers really surprised me.
I am usually a calm person but sent my husband an emotional, “melt down” email recently (not against him, just about life in general) and, I just checked now, I sent that email on a full moon!!!

There are actually a few studies that suggest a correlation, but far more credible, large-scale meta-analyses that suggest there’s none. A Finnish study suggested homicide rates dropped at full moon.

Ohbritainsgottalentagain · 27/04/2024 22:09

@DrunkenElephant So sorry 😔
I feel similar, up two night at four in the morning, just having total anxiety about everything..my Dd, my parents, just every worry possible. On Wednesday morning I was out with my parents and a protest went by and I burst into tears 🤷🏻‍♀️felt completely overcome with emotion, really odd

brunettemic · 27/04/2024 22:25

No it’s nothing to do with the moon 🙈

Ohbritainsgottalentagain · 27/04/2024 22:31

@brunettemic How do you know?

I worked in a school and the full moon meant horrendous behaviour! We all dreaded it. It’s a thing.

minimadgirl · 27/04/2024 22:34

Work on a mental health unit, things defintely ramp up at a full moon.

TroysMammy · 27/04/2024 22:35

Brings out the twats, entitled and demanding imo.

Lyra87 · 27/04/2024 22:37

I didn't realise it was a full moon, but I was really emotional Wednesday and Thursday, unusually teary.
When I worked in creche's, I could always tell it was a full moon by the children's behaviour so even though I'm not superstitious I do think it affects behaviour

Ohwhatakerfuffle · 27/04/2024 22:38

Our bodies are something like 50% water. The moon affects the ebb and flow of water. Thus it’s believed the moon also affects our moods 🤷‍♀️

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 27/04/2024 22:40

It is definitely real. I also feel totally hyper when there is a full moon, waking up through the night having weird dreams and feeling strange.
This week has been worse than usual with the anxiety though.

FairyGhost · 27/04/2024 22:40

i can't sleep well when it's full moon . I struggle to fall asleep and twist and turn and normally i'm out by 9:30pm

But now during full moon . Will take me till 2-3am to fall asleep then i'm tired and grumpy next day ...

Maverickess · 27/04/2024 22:40

It doesn't seem to be logical and I know there's been studies that indicate there's no correlation between a full moon and higher rates of crime or behaviour.

But...... I've worked in care homes for a fair amount of time, on nights mainly and it did always seem like the nights that were busy with people more unsettled, restless or confused were a full moon. Though it may just have been you remember the nights like that, that were a full moon, but not what phase the moon was in when you had other nights like that - because it wasn't a full moon.

The moon controls the tides , but I've never understood the science behind this either

@the80sweregreat I think it's something to do with the gravitational pull of the moon against the water? Although not entirely sure!
