Is the full moon to blame for this?

Ohbritainsgottalentagain · 27/04/2024 21:01

This week from Tuesday/Wednesday onwards, I’ve felt really emotional, quite weepy and now just fed up and a bit down, no particular reason, also v sensitive.
My friend said it’s the recent full moons and Scorpio or something. I always dismissed this before, but have been finding info about full moons quite interesting.

Anyone else been the same this week?

Or is it all a load of nonsense?

I used to be a werewolf, but I'm OK nooooooooow!!

HappiestSleeping · 27/04/2024 22:41

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Magnificentbeast · 27/04/2024 22:51

Interesting. I've struggled with anxiety and negative emotions this week. Disrupted sleep which never helps. It was all a bit overwhelming and then the fog/darkness started to clear yesterday. Feeling much better today.

I worked in a school and the full moon meant horrendous behaviour! We all dreaded it. It’s a thing.

Yep…all girls school too for me. We could always tell when there was a full moon!

Exactly the same as me, my mood started to lift yesterday and I feel fine again today.

Even if it’s a coincidence, I’m going to blame it on the full moon. It was really unsettling for me and I was very concerned that my mental health was declining again despite being fine for over a decade. Really strange!

Well this explains why my toddler was up on Tuesday to Thursday night at 2.30am and also being a completely moody nightmare this whole week!
I also had tears on Tuesday and Thursday watching tv… never happens. Guess it’s the moon effecting us

benefitstaxcredithelp · 27/04/2024 23:04

It’s a thing.
We are after all 70% water and the moon controls the tides so it’s not a stretch to believe it could have an effect on us. We are part of nature and not separate from it.

Full moons can illuminate your emotional state. I often feel the effects of a full moon. Some are stronger than others. This recent one was quite powerful, I even said to my husband a few days ago that I was really weepy and emotional then realised it was a full moon.

Mercury was also in retrograde so that’s a double whammy 😆

And re our menstrual cycle, it is believed by some we should bleed on a new moon and ovulate on a full moon ie 28-29 days in total. Apparently if we all lived closer to nature and didn’t disrupt our circadian rhythms with blue lights (screens) and indoor lighting we would all sync with the moon cycles!

Our bodies are something like 50% water. The moon affects the ebb and flow of water. Thus it’s believed the moon also affects our moods 🤷‍♀️

But that wouldn’t make sense in the context of whether-or-not a full moon affects moods. There isn’t more gravity during a full moon. The phases of the moon generally don’t line up with the distance between the Earth and the Moon, which is why super moons (a full moon occurring at the same time the Moon is at its closest point to Earth) are so rare.

The only difference between a full moon and any other phase of the Moon is that sunlight is hitting more of the part of the surface of the moon that’s visible from Earth. This does make the night sky brighter. That said, if you live in a town or city (i.e. somewhere with a lot a light pollution) the difference in brightness wouldn’t be noticeable.

paristotokyo · 27/04/2024 23:21

Yes! I've been so sensitive and emotional. Had a falling out with dh also (honestly it was kind of my fault) which rarely happens also.. either that or it's cos my periods due 😂

peopleonthebusgoupanddown · 27/04/2024 22:01

It's been statistically proven that full moon nights are not busier for crime or hospitals, but confirmation bias is a powerful thing.

Yep I remember looking at studies on it and being surprised and think it’s confirmation bias.
OP I’ve felt out of sorts, I think it’s because the weather has got colder again! I want sunshine!

MonsteraMama · 27/04/2024 23:49

Only humans would be arrogant enough to think the movements of giant space bodies has anything at all to do with them and their feelings.

stayathomer · 27/04/2024 23:54

I used to think that was all rubbish but actually in the last few years I’ve noticed I sleep worse around full moons, and some people do seem more hormonal. Very odd

AnxiousAnnie7583127 · 28/04/2024 00:26

That and the weather have made me very depressed this week

It's utter nonsense. That is all.

Unicornleapfrog · 28/04/2024 08:04

It’s definitely affected by the moon. I’m a youth worker of 20 years and the moon definitely affects behaviour

chocolateisavegetable · 28/04/2024 08:12

Melatonin is one of those hormones that is naturally released at night to calm your body down and prepare your body for sleep. When melatonin levels rise, serotonin — a “feel-good” hormone that plays a role in controlling our mood and appetite — decreases. And if you introduce things like artificial light and, say, bright light from a full moon, it may have an impact on your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep because we know artificial light impacts our sleep-wake cycle.

sorry for the link to stuff about melatonin - don’t know why it did that!

Melatonin: How Much Should You Take?

Melatonin is a sleep hormone that can get your sleep schedule on the right track. Here’s why smaller doses are better for you and how it works.

Walkinginthesand · 28/04/2024 08:21

I've put my own lack of energy down to Mars (energy) in Pisces (sensitivity, dissolves boundaries) now conjunct Neptune (more sensitivity, dreamy). Don't worry, Mars enters its own sign of Aries next week when energy and direction will return.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/04/2024 08:52

Only humans would be arrogant enough to think the movements of giant space bodies has anything at all to do with them and their feelings.

That makes no sense. They don't believe they are influencing the movements of giant space bodies. They believe that they are being influenced by the giant space bodies. Nonsense, but hardly human arrogance. If anything the opposite - humans being powerless and controllable or influenceable by the huge power of the natural world.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2024 09:14

AFAIK it is the gravitational pull that affects the tides, so it makes some sort of sense that it’d affect ovulation, too.

I’m sure I’ve seen a documentary about coral reefs, where when there’s a particular annual full moon, all the corals eject their billions of eggs and sperm at the same time.

Why does that make some sort of sense?! What has gravity got to do with ovaries?

I’m sure I’ve seen a documentary about coral reefs, where when there’s a particular annual full moon, all the corals eject their billions of eggs and sperm at the same time.

Yes, but they are in the sea, so being affected by the tide wouldn't be that surprising, would it? My ovaries are not in the sea Grin
