Trendy tween labels

GreenLingo · 23/04/2024 21:47

Please help me. I'm failing my son!
He's a tween.
He has been asking for a trendy black hoodie.
AIBU for not knowing what clothes to buy him all of a sudden?!
Apparently all his friends wear trendy black hoodies.
I've been told by DS he needs to have trendy hoodies.
DS has a few hoodies but none are black and TBH I don't think they're trendy for his age - he's coming up for 13 (he's got Boden hoodie, Quicksilver hoodie, non-branded hoodie.....he says they've all been deemed 'uncool' by friends and peers).
We've moved to Brighton and it's so trendy here. But I've noticed it's 'laid back trendy' if that makes sense. As in, you've got to look trendy, but not look as though you're trying to look trendy.
I'm a 50 year old menopausal mum who dresses very un-trendily, so I'm at a complete and utter loss as to what labels to look at for DS, and where to find DS a trendy, casual, black hoodie! Has to be black, apparently.
Can anyone please help? 🙏

Apparently Stussy is in fashion again - should have kept mine from the 90s!

Sorry if this is a daft question but why are you asking mumsnet and not your son? To a teen, what's trendy is what their friends are wearing. If he is 13 wouldn't you just tell him a budget and let him loose to find one he likes? Or is he asking your advice about what's trendy?

I think he's a bit lost in terms of what to wear.
He wants to dress in a trendy way, but he doesn't actualky know what's trendy.
He doesn't know what label black hoodies his new friends are wearing, I've asked him.
He's coming up for 12, not 13. Just realised I did a typo and pressed 3 instead of 2. Fat fingers!

As a pp has said - JDSports.

Hoodies: Nike or Mackenzie
Think Nike is the trendiest

Trainers: Nike/ Jordans/ Air force one

This is what my tween son thinks (I have no actual clue)

GreenLingo · 23/04/2024 22:39

Thanks - I'm checking all of these out.
I know about Nike, obviously, but I'm bored to tears of Nike.
Never heard of some of these labels, so I'm enjoying looking at them.
Hoodrich is covered in massive 'HOODRICH' logos all over their hoodies. DS is very understated and would never wear that kind of stuff.

I don’t think you can go wrong with Nike. Particularly the ubiquitous Nike tech fleece (That’s not actually a fleece-confused me the first time!)
Vinted is a good idea if he wants to be more effortlessly cool as it won’t have the box fresh look-will look like he’s had it a while. And cheaper!

Bibpot · 23/04/2024 22:41

Primark is safer here than the ‘wrong’ brand.

Desperatelyneedabreak · 23/04/2024 22:42

He will know but what logo they have on surely? My DS is not into fashion but even he can recognise labels, here Nike is most popular and not something you can go wrong with.

Dinnerlady12 · 23/04/2024 22:42

I have a 12 year old girl so don't know anything about boy's clothes! However from dropping her off at school I'd say majority of the boys are going around in Nike tech fleeces. You can buy the top and the bottoms separately.

Testina · 23/04/2024 22:42

Surprised we’re 10 posts in without Gymshark.

fluffychihuahuas · 23/04/2024 22:44

Deffo go for the nike tech tbh

FeatheryStroker · 23/04/2024 22:45

I saw a ridiculously fashionable youth today ambling down the street whilst I was in traffic. He was wearing all black apart from lime green socks teamed with black crocs.

GladysHeeler · 23/04/2024 22:46

I agree.

InAMillion · 23/04/2024 22:58

For a teen in Brighton the only brand mentioned above that's ok to wear is Nike and be subtle with the logo. And that's only as a basic brand

You're looking at labels such as True Religion, Represent

He really needs to look at what brands they're wearing because even in Brighton it varys school by school

For School he needs black Nike airforce one trainers you can't go wrong with those ever. If he wears anything else then he's

Carharrt is ok, you can't go wrong with that and Stussy is ok too and Cortiez and Billionaire boys club

Stay away from Northface that's very done in Brighton

Ralph Lauren track suits but not shirts or jumpers for boys no one would be seen dead in Zavetti, or any other label mentioned PP

InAMillion · 23/04/2024 23:00

I totally get it OP if you've just moved here it's a different world fashion wise sometimes whereas other things are the same as every other UK teen

InAMillion · 23/04/2024 23:03

But yes Nike is fine no matter what

Thank god

BirthdayRainbow · 23/04/2024 23:05

I'd be focusing more on him not being influenced by others. I know it is hard but what is cool is making your own choices and sticking to them. Not being a sheep.

Isittimeformynapyet · 23/04/2024 23:09

The word trendy sounds funny after reading the OP 😄

tootiredtospeak · 23/04/2024 23:09

If you can afford it go North Face if not Nike or Addidas and you want go wrong
