Trendy tween labels

GreenLingo · 23/04/2024 21:47

Please help me. I'm failing my son!
He's a tween.
He has been asking for a trendy black hoodie.
AIBU for not knowing what clothes to buy him all of a sudden?!
Apparently all his friends wear trendy black hoodies.
I've been told by DS he needs to have trendy hoodies.
DS has a few hoodies but none are black and TBH I don't think they're trendy for his age - he's coming up for 13 (he's got Boden hoodie, Quicksilver hoodie, non-branded hoodie.....he says they've all been deemed 'uncool' by friends and peers).
We've moved to Brighton and it's so trendy here. But I've noticed it's 'laid back trendy' if that makes sense. As in, you've got to look trendy, but not look as though you're trying to look trendy.
I'm a 50 year old menopausal mum who dresses very un-trendily, so I'm at a complete and utter loss as to what labels to look at for DS, and where to find DS a trendy, casual, black hoodie! Has to be black, apparently.
Can anyone please help? 🙏

Nike, North Face, Puma

For a teen in Brighton the only brand mentioned above that's ok to wear is Nike and be subtle with the logo. And that's only as a basic brand

You're looking at labels such as True Religion, Represent

He really needs to look at what brands they're wearing because even in Brighton it varys school by school

For School he needs black Nike airforce one trainers you can't go wrong with those ever. If he wears anything else then he's

Carharrt is ok, you can't go wrong with that and Stussy is ok too and Cortiez and Billionaire boys club

Stay away from Northface that's very done in Brighton

Ralph Lauren track suits but not shirts or jumpers for boys no one would be seen dead in Zavetti, or any other label mentioned PP

This is brilliant, thank you so much for the inside knowledge advice!
You're so right about North Face here in Brighton.

Also Under Armour, can’t go wrong with that.

I'd reiterate what a PP has said. Whilst North Face, Nike and a few other brands seem ubiquitous amongst teens across the country, I anticipate that Brighton might be different.
The forecast is that it's going to be bloody freezing this weekend which means all teenagers will be wearing their hoodies. Go for a walk around town at the weekend and actually look at the teenage boys and see what they're wearing. It's so easy to just see then as an amorphous mass but, if you look at them, you'll see some themes develop. The advantage around us is that none of the branding is discrete so you can notice which particular brand it is across a road or a coffee shop, Once you've got a few ideas, go online, remortgage your house and buy a few items

No child ‘needs’ black air force ones for school - don’t be so ridiculous. They’re banned at DD’s school, along with all other casual trainers and rightly so. Smart black leather shoes only

BubblegumBlue24 · 24/04/2024 00:09

Hoodrich is seen as massively chavvy where I am (no offence to anyone who wears/buys it!)

I second Represent as mentioned up thread and Fear of God - they do plainer hoodies.

InAMillion · 24/04/2024 00:46

@goldenretrievermum5 urm your post is pointless if trainers are banned at your DC school anyway Hmm

I can assure you most DC around the country wear black Air force ones to school. No one who has a vague clue is going to dispute that fact.

I've realised though OP that your DS is only 12 / 13 so fortunately most of the brands I listed earlier would be worn by older DC mainly because they're at the more pricy end.

Stick to Nike till you know what else to get.

Go to Churchill square to JD Sports, Foot Asylum to try on hoodies to start off with. Some trainer shops sell clothes at the back on North Street the pavilion end. There's so many shops you'll have to see what has what
