The Conservatives are shameless in their exploitation of women

In the latest "crack down", carers are being prosecuted for fraud and asked to repay thousands over quite simple mistakes.

Carers are overwhelmingly women and are already being let down and unsupported by the government despite doing a very important job, and in the case of elderly and disabled care, saving the government a packet.

AIBU in thinking the Tories exploit women?

YABU - Yes, they exploit both sexes equally
YANBU - No, they are shameless

UK government dementia adviser resigns over prosecutions of unpaid carers

Johnny Timpson says he wants to ‘take a stand’ after revelations thousands of carers are being forced to pay huge fines

About as shameful as Labour on their views on “women”

Geebray · 23/04/2024 11:58

Have the rules changed since Labour was in?

CantBelieveNaive · 23/04/2024 12:00

Am sick of pale, stale and male thinking!
Let's all start again with women ruling as they listen more, collaborate more and are more educated/intelligent without being full of themselves.
Is it just me?? 😜

That's not really relevant, is it? This crackdown is happening now. Under a Tory government.

Right, so having 'views' is as bad as actions which throw people into debt. Nice to know where GC women set their priorities.

It's a really simple question. If anyone could answer? Have the rules changed since Labour was in?

Would you prefer Mrs Thatcher, Theresa May, or Liz Truss as PM?

Yep, it feels like feminism has been highjacked by white middle class women. Its failing (predominantly working class) women who have to deal with these kind of real life issues.

Our last female PM didn’t do a great job…

I don’t know what GC means?

My point is women should be used to politicians taking them for granted and treating them like shit. It isn’t a conservative only thing and we should be calling it out on all sides - not just one.

OK. I'll try again. Have the rules changed since Labour was in? Vis a vis carers?

What an appalling ageist, sexist and racist comment.

Not to mention a bit stupid as Rushi is young ( for a PM) and, and I could be wrong, not exactly pale.

What do "the rules" have to do with the Conservative government policy to crackdown on over payments amd pursue vulnerable people for thousands of pounds they may have received by mistake?

Why are you so unwilling to find out who made the rules?

I'll try and look it up. I assumed, as you were shouting about the Tories, that this was an obviously Tory rule change.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 23/04/2024 12:54

Is this thread just for the purpose of electioneering? You seem to be pushing, across several threads, the idea that the tories are even worse than labour when it comes to women's rights. It may very well be true to say that they are, but you are starting to sound like a Labour hack that has been sent here to get the laydees onside.

Well those 'views' lead to the action of placing men who rape/sexually assault women into woman's prisons and lead to more women being sexually assaulted. IMO that is far worse than debt. Nice to know where your priorities lie.

I had wondered similar, Emma.

There was a Brexit poster a few years ago (can't quite recall the username) who was a one trick pony, we all soon started to ignore them.

MississippiAF · 23/04/2024 12:58

The daily Adam post, while simultaneously pretending they’ve only just recently joined Labour….

AdamRyan · 23/04/2024 12:59

It's an article in the news today. As we aren't near a GE, no I'm not electioneering. I am fed up of women being screwed over by the Tories.

All the major political parties are shameless in their exploitation of women, they just do it in different ways.

Regarding carers allowance, it would work better if it had a taper rather than a hard cut off for income. However, the rules are very clear and anyone who has claimed while not being eligible should pay back what they owe.

Well this is bullshit given under previous Labour governments there was the same earnings limit for claiming carers allowance you are criticising the Tories for. It was £84 in 2006, for example.

Will be interesting to see if all these overpayments are just waived when Labour get in…

I think we can stop it there, Adam.
