What’s the adult equivalent size for a 12-13 year old?

Looking at buying some period knickers for my 12 year old in anticipation of starting but no idea what size to get. Would get size 12-13 if available but they come in adult sizes.

I can’t measure her or her current undies at the moment. What’s an average 12 year old? A 6 maybe? Or an 8?

I bought my dd period bikini bottoms from Primark last year...In a size 6

CompletelyDifferentGoldSpangles · 22/04/2024 15:22

Remember that M&S's idea of a size six is absolutely huge if you're shopping there.

LordGribeau · 22/04/2024 15:23

My 11 yo wears M&S size 8-10. She's very tall and developed for her age though (usually in 14-15 size kids clothes), so it will depend on the size of the individual.

Modibodi have a measuring guide - they come up very small, I was surprised to find skinny 12yo dd needed their teen 14-16 size, or their 8 in women’s sizes. I ordered from them as they do swimming costumes, too.

SkaterGrrrrl · 22/04/2024 15:23

I feel your pain! My DD is 13 and in some shops she's age 13-14, in others I have to guess her adult size. I'm a size 10 and she's smaller than me so I go for size 8.

Modibodi do a teen range

Next have period pants in teen sizes that go upto age 16 and womens adult sizes, also they have some period swimwear.

ah thanks. Next might be easier than trawling through the numerous other sites.

My 11yo has cheeky ones in a 4-6 and typically wears 12-13 or 13-14 in clothes. However generally in adult clothes sizes can be anything from a 4 to a 10 - there’s a lot of variability! I’d expect M&S to be quite generous.

Modibodi swimwear is great, but pricey

It is. Next doesn’t have swimwear for teens at the moment so that’s annoying too.

I just had the same issue - buying 13 year old DD her first period pants. I went for a size 6, and they fit ok

SparkyBlue · 22/04/2024 18:53

I bought a modibodi swimsuit for 11 year old DD and she absolutely loves it. I bought it in January when I was a bit broke and I did initially roll my eyes at the amount it cost as her school swimming lessons started at the end of January but it was well worth the money. She felt very comfortable and confident in it. It also has extra coverage in the boob area so great for those who are developing larger breasts and are feeling self conscious.

6-8 typically but possibly larger, they tend to have waist sizes on the website
