To ask which Mumsnetter fooled the DM for £350?

So I don’t know if anyone remembers this thread as I can’t find it now, but the OP said that her friends had claimed they were poor so people in the friendship group had lent them money, chosen cheaper activities, and even chosen much cheaper group holidays. And then it finally came out the “poor” friends had actually been saving money and had a ton.

Today the Daily Mail has a story that IS that thread, slightly changed (yeah, I’m reading crap; I’m sick AF with the flu): https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13320765/decades-subsidising-poor-friend-bought-second-home-75k-Range-Rover.html

The weirdest part to me is that some enterprising Mumsnetter must have told the DM this “similar scenario” because they were offering bloody £350 for this on Media Requests!

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/media_requests/5022595-media-request-did-you-discover-that-someone-in-your-friendship-circle-was-far-wealthier-than-they-had-led-everyone-to-believe-ps350-fee

AIBU to think a lot of us would have made up any old thing for £350? And one of us probably did?

We spent decades subsidising our 'poor' friend then she bought a home

On the day we left secondary school, my five closest friends and I made a pact. Our friendship, forged as awkward 11-year-olds, would span a lifetime.

I'm reading it all today as on the settee with the flu and the kids who have it too. Thanks for bringing me more to pass the time!
I do remember the thread.

@Luddite26 Oh god what IS this flu; I have it too! Hope you and the children feel better soon. And yes, maybe we should all be watching Media Requests so we don’t miss more opportunities to make £350 for a bit of creativity 😂

Foratly, I like how everyone hete pretends not to read DM, yet most links are DM😂 Just live with it, we all readthem sometimes😂

Secondly. I remember that thread. IfI was named I would make stuff up for 350, ifI was anonymous..... Well

They never, ever watch GB news either 🤔

@BeachBeerBbq @tuvamoodyson Oh, I mean, I don’t think anyone is pretending the Daily Mail is top notch journalism and this article is a great example; that said, of course it has its place in the landscape, and I just admitted I read it. I’m actually not in the UK so don’t watch GB News, but if there was an interview on there I wanted to see, and I was in the UK, I would say that I watched it. But yes, I read the “light” parts of the Daily Mail when I’m really, really ill (bedbound periods) because it gives me that same comfort I used to get from reading stuff like Take a Break whenever I was young and ill. Those were the days. “Thwarted From My Career… BY ANGELS!” “Fido Does More Than Fetch… HE DETECTS ANY ILLNESS!”
