Do you believe in "signs"?

Like signs from the universe...
we had a miscarriage in October and suffer with infertility and 2 days in a row now my OH has seen rainbows. One was an actual rainbow and another was a bridge with a huge rainbow painted on it that he come across on a walk (where he's never walked before) Both very bright rainbows.
I want to believe it's a sign of maybe our rainbow baby this month.
Obviously I have a very rational logical brain that says "don't be ridiculous, it's just a coincidence and it was raining and sunny yesterday so there's going to be rainbow".
I choose to believe it's a sign but we will see.

Does anyone else believe in signs and did they come "true"?

No, it's just April showers. I also hate the term rainbow baby. It makes the poor child carry the burden of past woes.

HermioneWeasley · 17/04/2024 13:13

Very gently, no. Lots of people will have seen rainbows - for some people it might have relevance and for others it won’t. You’re attributing meaning to something that it can’t have.

I hope you have your longed for baby soon, I know that’s really hard.

Well I wouldn't be calling them a rainbow baby when they are born of course! Just early on the conception it's a nice thought

@HermioneWeasley Thank you, I do see your point in my "normal brain" haha!
Yes I have a beautiful 2 year old boy so I am very fortunate but would love for him to have a sibling.

Yes I do. Congrats on your rainbow baby x

choixduroi · 16/05/2024 10:47

I believe that your subconscious alerts you to phenomena like rainbow or whatever when something is on your mind, so that 'signs' can be like little messages from your subconsious which are telling you something. So it's not something supernatural but it might be e.g. your body already knows you are pregnant and makes you notice the rainbow more.. Whenever I have a strong emotion, I keep noticing little things around me which I would not otherwise notice..

Yes this makes sense. Although it was my partner noticing the signs and not me and he's definitely not got having a baby on his mind half as much as me. There were more "signs" leading up to the positive test as well. Interesting xxx

Whisperingsummerishere · 16/05/2024 10:55

Congratulations op...
When my mate was murdered some years ago the next morning 4 white doves appeared on his front lawn. I hoped it was a sign he was at peace and we would be in time...
The world is a strange place..
Glad some goodness is coming to your life!

raspberryberet7 · 16/05/2024 10:56

Yes I do believe in signs. I am a very logical person but I do believe if you see something and you think it's a sign then it is! Good look I hope you're pregnant xx

I do believe in signs. Whether it’s the universe trying to tell you something or your subconscious making you more sensitive to your surroundings, there’s definitely something to it. The world works in beautiful and mysterious ways.

LookAtAllThoseRoses · 16/05/2024 11:03

No, it's just confirmation bias and wishful thinking. Rainbows are an ordinary, very frequent meteorological phenomenon, especially at rainy times of year, and especially since Covid, you see them painted commonly -- there's a mural of one on a school wall near here, and one in a children's window in a house down the street Delighted to hear you are pregnant, though, and best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy.

SherrieElmer · 16/05/2024 11:05

No. We are just atoms who happen to be together for a in infinitesimal small amount of time and then just void.

Just came across your post OP and so happy to read this update. Congratulations!
I'm a sceptical person by nature, but, more recently, I've been more open to signs from the universe. Every time I see a white feather, I like to think it's my dad (who passed away of cancer nearly 8 years ago) checking in on me and I'll find myself saying "Hi dad".
Based on your update, maybe the universe (or your unborn baby even) was sending a message to your OH - I think the fact that it wasn't you, but your OH seeing these things is significant as well.

As much as I am logical, I also see the value in having a faith in something that is beyond our control. Coincidences - are they signs from the universe? When we suddenly feel drawn to things/places/people but can't explain why. It's fascinating.

choixduroi · 16/05/2024 12:46

I'm increasingly coming to the view that it is just as beautiful and wonderful if your own consciousness has generated the sign, as it would be if it came from a supernatural force. Woh deep stuff for a Thursday afternoon :):)

Elisabeth3468 · 16/05/2024 19:32

@KeepSmiling89 Thanks for sharing. It's so interesting the topic and I think there is more to it. I'm not a particularly spiritual or religious person either but I do think sometimes signs are there. Whether it's our mind that finds them or not they are still signs. I hope the white feathers bring you some comfort, I'm sorry to hear about your dad 💔xx

No, I don't believe in signs. It's bollocks.

I do believe in babies though and I delighted for you on your pregnancy

Softycatchymonkeys · 16/05/2024 19:54

I’m a logical person. I have a physics degree for heavens sake.
But for the 6 months after my firstborn was stillborn I must have seen about ten rainbows. And then then I got pregnant with my now 2.5 yr old followed by my now 11 month old

The thing is, even if it just lifts us up momentarily, that’s not a bad thing is it
