AIBU to be ridiculously excited about the prospect of a Universal Studios opening in the UK?

I've only just heard about it am shocked to learn they have bought land here already, seems like a real possibility it will get the green light. It's only about 40 minutes from my house, I've never been to Florida but Universal has always been on my wish list, if this opens I'll be there every weekend 🤣

Anyone else here excited? I did a search and couldn't find any threads. If it happens, my girls and I will LOVE it!

We are about 2 hours away but also ridiculously excited and would definitely be looking at purchasing annual passes. We are in desperate need of a good quality theme park in the UK!!

Absolutley agree with you! Hopefully this might make Merlin pull their finger out and start really investing in their parks too. The rides are good but the themeing needs some work!

First I’ve heard of it! It would be amazing if it gets built. Fingers crossed.

exomoon · 14/04/2024 20:54

Wow that’s exciting! I work for them so have had free tickets to the Florida one.

Yes, agree about merlin. I know that a universal wouldn't be cheap, but merlin now offers absolutely no value for money because it's a high price for what I think are now very tired parks and rides and ridiculously overpriced hotels because there's just no competition.

Very interested to see the differing views on likely Harry Potter content

ToxicChristmas · 14/04/2024 20:56

It'll be a good few years coming yet, but having watched the presentation by Universal about the jobs it will being to the area etc it sounds promising.
I've been to Florida many times and really enjoy it -the weather helps which we obviously don't often have! Will be exciting to see what happens.

ASeagulStoleMyIceCream · 14/04/2024 20:57

I didn’t know this was happening, and am also excited now! Where is it going to be built?

ToxicChristmas · 14/04/2024 20:57

Bedford

ToxicChristmas · 14/04/2024 20:58

Theme Park Worldwide covered the Universal presentation- its on YouTube if anyone is interested.

I don't think they will do a HP bit becuase of the HP experience down in Watford. I would love to see a LOTR world, not that I'm a huge fan but I can imagine it being beautiful.

Sorry all, I realised I have done what I hate most and not included a link to what I'm talking about... here you go!

I don't understand why it's in such a small piece of land though.... no room for expansion or much at all really

Don't get too excited!

I watched Theme Park World Wides video and it's huge! The space could fit about 4 thorpe parks apparently and is bigger than Floridas Island of Adventure park.

The map does make it look really small though.

I'm excited but cautious - it doesn't seem fully realistic weather wise to me!! Other theme parks shut down over winter, can't imagine universal doing that + rollercoaster restrictions in bad weather suck.

It would save us an absolute fortune flying to Florida so if it goes ahead will be very happy 😂

I'd think there would definitely be a HP bit, that's one of the biggest money makers and they've got three separate sections in the Florida parks for it, would be bonkers not to include if there too imo.

I keep hearing James Bond talked about which would be alright but not as exciting as HP or LOTR just because of the landscapes and magic elements for me.

We cant wait. Know it's a while off yet but we would love it. We love florida but it's so expensive to do every year. Cant wait to see what they do with it and hopefully we will get an annual pass for it 😅

HelloMiss · 14/04/2024 21:08

It's not huge. Not really

I'm a few mins walk from it. There was an event at a nearby college this week for locals.

It's on the site of the old brickworks

HelloMiss · 14/04/2024 21:09

Plus the land is going to have a retail and food place and a hotel.

PilgorTheGoat · 14/04/2024 21:15

It would be ridiculous not to do a HP area in the country where HP is based. The wizarding world in Orlando and Japan is totally different the the experience in Watford. There’s no comparison between the two.

I’d hope they will do a Nintendo Land here too as it seems silly not to include their newest themed area in their newest park.

Jurassic park/ world would be great too. The Jurassic park log flume in Orlando is my favourite ride.

HelloMiss · 14/04/2024 21:16

Why would they do HP the HP studios is half hour down the road?

HelloMiss · 14/04/2024 21:16

Woburn center parcs is about 20 mins away too.

Has the local support been good? I've seen a lot of praise for it online but don't know anyone in the immediate area.

I think size wise it's pretty good, bigger than one in Florida including the walks, shopping, parking etc. I'm just happy the UK is even getting a look in!

I haven't heard about this but can't help wonder if it will compare well to the California and Florida versions to be honest. The rides might be okay but would they just recreate all the film sets?

HP in the parks is a hundred times better!

Actual rides, the restaurants, you can walk around diagon alley or hogsmeade, go into the shops, try the food + the drink, ride the hogwarts express. It's actual real life magic! The studio tour full of props is interesting, but it's just not comparable at all.

Jurassic world would be amazing! Nintendo I would like to see too, it looks good in the Epic Universe press releases so high hopes for a UK one too.
