AIBU to be ridiculously excited about the prospect of a Universal Studios opening in the UK?

I've only just heard about it am shocked to learn they have bought land here already, seems like a real possibility it will get the green light. It's only about 40 minutes from my house, I've never been to Florida but Universal has always been on my wish list, if this opens I'll be there every weekend 🤣

Anyone else here excited? I did a search and couldn't find any threads. If it happens, my girls and I will LOVE it!

That's brilliant they are all on board, I wish I could go to one of these events but sadly I am working Tuesday and I think it seems more for locals anyway. Being a few minutes walk away would be incredible, I'm very jealous of you!

Well it will bring jobs to the area! And a new station is being built anyway, links to London are pretty good already

Yes it goes look like there are a lot of houses nearby! I wonder how it will impact the houses that are there. But good news about a new train station to London. That will increase property value!

Wixams station was planned before this but there's also Kempston hardwick small station right on the road next to the park

The presentation said shuttle buses would be an option

I lived 10 mins from another Universal Studios for years, and we had annual passes one year for free. Painful for me as I'm not a big theme park fan- but even the kids weren't interested after 2 visits. The weather was 100% better than here mind so at least you could wander round in the sun 😎

I live 20 mins from where this one is proposed and I'm sure it'll be great for the area but I'll wait for free tickets again 😂

Looking at their plans, it seems they are looking to include lots of footpaths and cycle paths too. They do seem very invested in the local area as well as the park itself.

Did they give you free season tickets because you lived so close? That's brilliant. Did everyone within a certain distance get that?

I'm pretty close by, so maybe I can Airbnb my spare bedrooms!

YANBU - we’ve been to Universal in California, Florida and Singapore, definitely the best theme parks in the world in my opinion! We don’t even bother with Disney or Merlin parks nowadays, they just don’t even compare. I’m very excited at the prospect of one so much closer to home and easier to visit. Don’t think that the experience will be quite as good due to the British weather but it’s still great news that something like this is hopefully in the works

I personally think it's too small and local roads are not going to cope.

Apparently there won’t be a HP area because of Warner Bros having the rights to HP in the UK.

Can’t imagine Universal in the shitty British weather to be honest, and I love a theme park.

I can literally see the plot from my house. Road construction will be a nightmare ( they claim to be building a flyover but we were told that was too dangerous for warehouses), traffic noise, noise from the park itself, congestion, infrastructure not being good enough, increased traffuc in villages which are already rat runs. I can't see how it improves the area and am not convinced a flood of tourists will suddenly go to Bedford and liven it up.

I don't really fancy a fireworks show every night. And I am past theme park age myself so nothing in it for me....

Response is very mixed in my village.
