To ask…how long would a 250ml of shampoo last you?

Just that really. How long would it last you? Not your whole household, just you.
my mum gave me a fancy shampoo at Christmas and it’s still not empty (although I probably have 2/3 more washes out of it. I wash my hair on average twice a week. I think that’s very good longevity. How about you?

I have to wash my hair every day or I look greasy so it’d last me a couple of weeks probably. I don’t buy fancy brands as I can’t tell the difference.

Luxell934 · 13/04/2024 23:30

I’ve never really paid attention but I’d say a good month or so, possibly more. Usually wash my hair every other day.

MrsCrumPinnett · 13/04/2024 23:30

I wash about twice a week, too, but I have a lot of curly hair so use a fair amount each time. I think I’d have run out a bit before you.

TextureSeeker · 13/04/2024 23:31

I have no idea. I have teens and one bathroom, the idea of me being able to keep a fancy shampoo away from them is laughable. What's mine is theirs at the moment.

Dullardmullard · 13/04/2024 23:31

3 months maybe a bit longer I’ve long hair and only wash it once sometimes twice a week

minipie · 13/04/2024 23:32

We recently went on holiday with a 100ml bottle and it just about lasted the week with 4 of us using it every day. So 16 washes. So in theory 250ml would last 40 washes, at twice per week that would be 20 weeks, or 4.5 months, about what you’re describing!

KimberleyClark · 13/04/2024 23:33

I wash my very thick slightly dry hair once a week, so a bottle lasts me a good long while.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 13/04/2024 23:34

Ages. Same with shower gel. I was bought a fancy one for Xmas as part of a set and it lasted me most of the year! I always think when people say ‘oh I can’t tell the difference’ and then say they buy a new shower gel every week… well, that’s the difference!

Jk987 · 13/04/2024 23:34

Months. I spend more on a brand I love (Pureology) but it lasts ages because you only need a tiny bit. Means fewer plastic bottles too.

bradpittsbathwater · 13/04/2024 23:36

I wash mine every day. I'd say 3-4 weeks.

It’s greasy because you wash it everyday

YeahComeOnThen · 13/04/2024 23:40

@Brainded I don't know. I don't pay any attention. I buy mine when it on a special order & buy a few, I have long hair and I wash it usually every second day in winter & daily in summer, I always use too much until the end of the bottle. But it would last me ages. I'd still be using a fancy one I'd started in the new year.

SausageinaBun · 13/04/2024 23:42

I get 2 300ml bottles of fancy shower gel for Christmas each year and they last me the year. If it was shampoo then I'd only use it every other day, but might use a bit more. So I'd guess 6 months for one 250ml bottle. That's assuming that like my shower gel, the shampoo is more concentrated than a cheap one.

Catsmere · 13/04/2024 23:43

Similar to you, OP. I also wash my hair twice a week, and a 250ml bottle lasts months. I don't use a lot of shampoo each time - it's purple and I don't want to overdo the colour. 😄

HPD76 · 13/04/2024 23:44

I use Nioxin which is dear enough, I have short hair and it only needs a 5p sized amount of shampoo. I wash my hair daily, so a bottle would last me getting on for 6 months.

Not true in any way shape or form - it’s due to hormones.

Brainded · 13/04/2024 23:51

Love these! Thank you. I don’t normally keep track as such , I just happened to realise this evening when washing my hair and the it intrigued me as to how long it would last others. Seems about average I suppose. I forgot to add my is long enough, well below my shoulders.

Allfur · 13/04/2024 23:54

Doesn't it depend on how much hair one has?

Same! I could hide it but I'm usually washing my hair before work and not really paying attention.

NameChangedAgainn · 13/04/2024 23:57

I have a lot of hair, a 250ml bottle would only last me a few weeks

Brainded · 14/04/2024 00:03

@Allfur well yes, in theory there are a good few variables. There’s no right answer, it’s just a general wondering is all.

Yes, and it varies with age, too. I've had to wash my hair more or less frequently at different life stages, though as an adult I've mostly had it at the same length (shoulder length or longer). These days it's still thick and trimmed to a bit below shoulder length, but I'm sure menopause must have made changes to its texture.

Ditto.

I use a fair bit when I do wash, though, so pretty sure I'd be through 250ml by now.

EveSix · 14/04/2024 00:36

Same, OP. Wash hair 3 times / fortnight, which is fine for my hair type. Shampoo lasts for months.
I can't bear single-use plastic waste, so am pleased I'm not burning through endless plastic bottles.
I either use bar soap in the shower or the suds from my shampoo to wash my body. But most days, it's a flannel wash with bar soap.

DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2024 01:01

I have fine, quite short hair which I wash every day. I only use a tiny bit of shampoo so it would last me ages.
