I've received a generous inheritance and pension lump sum. I'd like DH and I to go on a great holiday this Autumn - I'm thinking Vietnam snd Cambodia but am flexible - budget up to £20k - preferably closer to £10 k tho. Where have you been that you'd recommend or where would you go? l'm not interested in the US or Australia this time as we've lived in both.

Singapore, Bali, Lombok, Gili's and Komodo!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/04/2024 09:32

Vietnam is amazing. Your budget is more than enough.

My dream destination is Costa Rica. We just can't afford it though

DeedlessIndeed · 09/04/2024 09:33

Went to Vietnam last year, stayed in lovely hotels, all 5*, 12 nights total.

Taxi/Grab (Uber equivalent) everywhere. Flew via Dubai and one leg was business class with emirates which was a lovely treat - we got a last minute deal for this upgrade.

Spent about £6K in total and it was fantastic!

Costa rica. I've never been, but I'd love to! There are so many amazing places to visit for wildlife and nature but beaches too.

Seashor · 09/04/2024 09:36

Italy and Spain . I love their food and culture.

KimberleyClark · 09/04/2024 09:38

Iguazu Falls on the Brazil/Argentina Border is one place I’d love to go back to.

DrJoanAllenby · 09/04/2024 09:38

Japan. I've been to many places but Joan is truly wonderful.

DrJoanAllenby · 09/04/2024 09:38

Japan! I've no idea who Joan is!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/04/2024 09:38

Canadian rockies and Vancouver.

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 09/04/2024 09:40

Japan or Canada.

Splat92 · 09/04/2024 09:48

Far and away my best holiday was South Africa. We went to a private game reserve (Karongwe) where you can get up close with the animals. It was just amazing.

Japan was probably my next favourite destination.

sleepyscientist · 09/04/2024 09:48

What do you enjoy? For us it would be a cruise or Bali/Maldives/Dubai (November time).

Agree South Africa is amazing. We went to Victoria Falls too - unforgettable.

Berlinlover · 09/04/2024 09:51

Definitely Japan.

lumierplate · 09/04/2024 09:53

Alaska or Japan but mainly Alaska.

quizzys · 09/04/2024 09:55

The Orient Express to Istanbul
Then Oman
Then the Blue Train in South Africa.

OrigamiOwls · 09/04/2024 10:05

Japan for me!

TizerorFizz · 09/04/2024 10:06

@Scrumbleton We have been to the Antarctic and this was the dream of many on the boat. However your budget is short of that.

I think South Africa has lots going for it. Just one word though. Private game reserves can be just like a huge zoo. If you go, include an original park so you get to see wildlife that’s not imported to rewilded farmland. The new reserves have their place but the real wild is better. South Africa also has fantastic guest houses that are nicer than many hotels. Internal flights make the various areas very accessible.

Other places we have enjoyed are Japan, Alaska, the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada if you like peace and quiet and bears and whales! Also look at Argentina. It’s a fantastic country! I can also recommend Peru and Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. Vietnam and Costa Rica are more popular with Brits. We have also visited Zambia and Botswana for wildlife but what are your interests?

I have money for a big holiday but can't be bothered to fly a long way.
The thought of sitting on a plane that long is not for me.

I do however go to sunny destinations within a 4 hour flight that is enough.
Enjoy your holiday.

the80sweregreat · 09/04/2024 10:31

St Lucia as Jane McDonald went there on one of her travel programmes and it looked lovely and named after a woman too.
Enjoy your holiday op.

Backtoreality1 · 09/04/2024 10:32

Kuala Lumpur and Borneo, or Japan :)
Have visited both KL and Japan for work but would LOVE to extend that to a stay for myself!

ToxicChristmas · 09/04/2024 10:36

Japan for me too -planning to go in a few years.

BeaRF75 · 09/04/2024 10:36

Another one for South Africa, which would be a revisit for me.
I'd also love to go back to India, but different bits this time - so Shimla, Amritsar and up to the Himalaya.
I'd love to go back to St Petersburg but, sadly, the political situation doesn't permit.
For somewhere totally new, probably Australia, inc Sydney and Melbourne (for the temnis), with lots of stops en route both going out and coming back (eg Singapore) to help with the jet lag.
