If you could go on any holiday where would you go

I've received a generous inheritance and pension lump sum. I'd like DH and I to go on a great holiday this Autumn - I'm thinking Vietnam snd Cambodia but am flexible - budget up to £20k - preferably closer to £10 k tho. Where have you been that you'd recommend or where would you go? l'm not interested in the US or Australia this time as we've lived in both.

Costa Rica has been our best ever holiday, though I'm currently in Japan and this holiday is giving it a run for its money.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 09/04/2024 10:42

Japan
Or I've great Costa Rica is good.

I'd probably do a Caribbean cruise.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/04/2024 10:43

Caribbean, one of the still relatively unspoilt bits. Which alas does not apply any more to a place we visited and loved several times in the past. Lovely warm, calm Vitamin Sea!

(I think I must have been a fish in a previous life.)

MumChp · 09/04/2024 10:43

Japan or Alaska.

Costa rica. I've never been, but I'd love to! There are so many amazing places to visit for wildlife and nature but beaches too.

Oh, yes! Would love to visit there.

beguilingeyes · 09/04/2024 10:47

Go to Vietnam...just go :) We went a few years ago and I really want to go back. It's breathtakingly beautiful, the food is amazing and once you get there everything is ridiculously cheap. Really luxurious hotels.
I could happily sail around Halong Bay forever.

TokyoSushi · 09/04/2024 10:50

Yes Japan in a really lovely way for me too!

We could probably afford to go to Vietnam for a 'normal holiday' but I'd do something fabulous in Japan for this one!

WinkyTinky · 09/04/2024 10:51

I think we should organise a group trip to Japan! Lots of us wanting to go there. Although, watching the Japanese GP at the weekend, it looked a bit plain and ordinary like anywhere else... I'm sure they just stuck it in an industrial estate and everywhere else is beautiful 😁

Myotherdogsanoodle · 09/04/2024 11:23

Cambodia and Vietnam are both great, especially Cambodia (in fact I’d just go there and make the most of the chance to travel around, some gorgeous islands there too!) - go for it!

Pigeonqueen · 09/04/2024 11:42

I think with that budget I’d look at doing a round the world type cruise. You’d get to see so many places.

almondflake · 09/04/2024 12:09

Absolutely loved Barbados , we hired a car and went all over . There's so many fantastic places to see and things to discover .
Stayed at the O2 and were very well looked after .
There's also the Royalton in Antigua , upgrade to a sea view butler room , that's fun .
You can always upgrade your flights which is fantastic on a long haul trip .
Have fun and enjoy your windfall x

I'd love to go back to Japan, I've been twice and the 2nd tine was better as it was Sept and the leaves were changing. I'd possibly add a week in Korea as well.

Lots of people recommend the Philippines but I've never been.

I'd like to see more of Canada, and definitely parts of the Caribbean (more than happy to be the new Death in Paradise detective and spend m time on Guadeloupe 😁)

Koptforitagain · 09/04/2024 12:29

I would go Sailing in Turkey.

user09876543 · 09/04/2024 12:29

Cambodia is a really great trip. Perfect combination of beaches and historical sites (although obviously lots of the history from 1970s onwards is quite harrowing).

South Africa and Costa Rica also lovely.

I'd do Japan though because we've done the others.

Mere1 · 09/04/2024 12:33

South America-Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Easter Island(Chile). So many different cultures, scenery. Fabulous. We had this individual tour all planned for us by a tour company-guides and flights included.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/04/2024 15:14

Since we can't really go 'abroad' any more... The Channel Islands.

mitogoshi · 09/04/2024 15:34

Id book around the world tickets, was scrolling through deals on trail finders earlier, they are around £2k each. Another dream trip is to fly to Namibia and ride (motorcycle not push bike!) to Mozambique, shipping the bike there and back, comes in at around £10k but driving or public transport is an option too.
South America is another dream ... we are circa 3 years off retiring so I'm doing lots of research!

greatvisuals · 09/04/2024 15:39

To the top of a snowy mountain range in a very cosy, luxurious log cabin with big windows, a wood burner, wifi, widescreen tv, a fridge and freezer full of delicious food and ingredients (and a few bottles of nice things), an outdoor hot tub with a view to die for. I'd cosy up, watch the weather rolling in and stay there for a month.
One of those canopy and stars luxury places maybe?

dinhoecotour · 09/04/2024 18:05

How many days do you have for a trip in Vietnam and Cambodia?

JMSA · 09/04/2024 18:10

Maldives.
