More specifically when the plane starts its engines and then goes faster and faster down the runway and then, amazingly, begins to lift into the air!!!! Argghhh! Is it going to do it?? Come on come on!!!! Surely it’s not possible???!! It’s a metal thing!!! And then completely off the ground!!!!! Fucking hell!! Wow!

AIBU??

Yes YABU and insane! I hate it.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 05/04/2024 20:24

Exciting and terrifying in equal measure.

CremeEggOverload · 05/04/2024 20:25

I love that bit too. Find it quite exhilarating and I'm usually pleased to be leaving the ground for a bit

EspressoMacchiato · 05/04/2024 20:26

Billy Connolly said it best “it’s not physics or aerodynamics that gets the plane off the ground. It’s the sheer fucking will of everyone on board”.

🤣

I don’t think I could ever be excited by it, I have to either not think about the fact we’re flying and be apathetic and just act like i’m in a car or a train or I get completely terrified. I haven’t flown since before covid and I’m not sure whether I will cope with it next time I book a holiday as I am convinced it will fail and I will die every time.

CapitanSandy · 05/04/2024 20:27

Wish I liked this feeling. Always make feel tense such a killjoy!

DappledThings · 05/04/2024 20:28

Me too! Flying has never lost its excitement for me. Even a cheap as chips, packed in tiny rows, cost me a fiver from London to Dublin and I can only bring a bag with about enough room for one change of socks and pants is still exciting. Taking off is amazing. Everything on the ground gets so tiny so quickly. I love it.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 05/04/2024 20:29

I also get very excited about flying! Most people think I'm mad 😂 but I can't get enough of it, especially that feeling when the plane is taking off.

Aramiss · 05/04/2024 20:30

Yes I love it.

It's why I'm currently learning to fly myself. It's the most exhilarating feeling.

MsAsparagus · 05/04/2024 20:32

I love it too. I once had to get 3 connecting flights in one day and it was quite honestly one of the best days of my life.

DearSilverGirl · 05/04/2024 20:33

Yanbu! It’s amazing.

AStepAtaTime · 05/04/2024 20:33

Oh good! Other people are also like me!!! I’m 41 by the way. And my children don’t get like this. They are totally nonplussed by taking off.

I also like tracking my plan on Flight Radar whilst I’m waiting in the airport, much to the embarrassment of my kids.

Itiswhysofew · 05/04/2024 20:34

I'm waiting to board a flight to Heathrow right now. I love coming in to land, especially at night time.

That's exactly how I feel! It's the best bit of flying- that surge of power

TheChosenTwo · 05/04/2024 20:38

Ahhhh YABInsane 😂😂
I hate flying so much but I love hot holidays so they are a necessary evil - i like the airport bit, shopping and eating and having a pre drink or two but as soon as the gate’s called I can feel myself start to sweat and get a bit panicky. I’m just terrified and sort of have to do some kind of made up meditation/breathing exercises to not totally freak out and lose my shit completely! This doesn’t end until the tyres hit the tarmac at the other end and then of course we have to do it all in reverse to get home.
But I do know people who love it so I don’t think you’re the odd one out for doing so - I just personally feel the opposite!

Oooeeeoooaa · 05/04/2024 20:39

Not quite but the narrative made me laugh. I hate it. The magic disappeared after watching final destination film.

Berlinlover · 05/04/2024 20:40

I love it too but I hate the descent and landing.

I’m 43 and I bloody love flying.

I feel sad for people who don’t enjoy it.

AStepAtaTime · 05/04/2024 20:43

@MsAsparagus

i love it too, have to have a window seat and get overexcited. can't understand why people aren't interested where we are flying other. I love all the changing landscapes. though I have only flown to european countries

Newgirls · 05/04/2024 20:44

I like it if it’s on time and I like the window seats so I can have a good look around

Stickysusan · 05/04/2024 20:46

I find it totally tedious.
